The gang talks about Longmont Potion Castle, an anonymous surrealist prank phone caller that has been at it since the 1980s and has quietly shaped the comedy styles of your favorite funny people for years and years. Note: Alex made a playlist for watching. Enjoyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rokGLluse-k&list=PLGdQOEusQ6YQ49vRnUy-WeXU572xEsu1K

Durlan

Is my app fucked or is there no intro music?

westernkabuki

Not sure what's up, we're reuploading now. One sec!

westernkabuki

Not sure what happened, we're reuploading in a second

hamburglar

Really should have gotten a guest for this one. Spicy legato maybe. Go get Lucas for me

westernkabuki

I don't care if he's your friend, bud! There's nobody around here with that name

Fellow Worker

This whole episode just sounds like some rope moving around to me

hamburglar

I’m gonna give you the opportunity to be a hero in front of all your friends

hamburglar

THERES NOBODY WITH THE SPICY NAME

hamburglar

FYI the YouTube link doesn’t seem to be a playlist, for me it’s just the swamp donkey call

Ben Ferber

Looks like the playlist doesn’t exist, guessing it’s missing a character or is set to private?

The kabukers were wondering if longmont was the earliest example of prank calling — definitely not. Wolfman Jack was already doing them on his radio show back in the 60s. However, Longmont is still the michael jordan of the game.

Sean (Alleged Person)

These seem to have directly inspired the prank calls that videogamedunkey did on YouTube. Those are exactly this style of call, committing to nonsense bits, using Skype to connect two restaurants together, etc. Very cool to find this connection

westernkabuki

i like dunkey now but when i first heard him forever back i will say i had a little resentment in him for this exact reason lol. it really is cool to see how LPC has inspired so many funny people over the years though

Leisak

Thanks so much for doing this episode 🥰

Laruna Softpaw

It amazes me when people who aren’t businesses just stay on the phone with him for that long. If he called me my socially anxious ass would panic and hang up.

a cousin of this would have to be the 'ventrilo harrassment' clips on youtube. the anonymous creator 'videocompiler' would also use audio equipment to take samples of the prank victims in order to play back to the ventrilo, do looping and pitch-shifting, and even made songs out of them to play back a short time later.

Sam Lomax

Hi winners - It appears the YouTube link is still broken, and leads to a single video instead of a playlist.

ChigBungus

I am so glad Not Even A Show came up because I immediately thought of Chris after hearing the first Longmont clip

ChigBungus

If you go to the account that posted the video you’ll find a ton of Longmont videos. Not as convenient as a playlist - but it’s something

ChigBungus

Also thank you for this episode y’all. I love Not Even A Show and had never heard of Longmont. Now on a quest to listen to as much of his work as possible

Lazaro
