Two thoughts occurred to me. First, Alcor completely misunderstands the concept of love, and what's more, he doesn't believe in its existence, which is why he thinks Polaris will simply change his mind and come back. Second, he's worried that his younger brother will end up heartbroken. Alcor needs to experience love himself, the sooner the better ;).
