Spent almost 3 hours figuring out a colour palette for this scene and I'm pleased with the results (I ended up with two palettes!)! It's a huge load off my chest because new colour palettes are one of the toughest things to figure out, for me.

The first palette I came up with was image 1. The overall colour scheme of AB has always been in hues of whites, pinks and reds, so I guess it looks okay-ish. It feels pretty whimsical and fairytale-like. BUT I also feel like it's a little too...girly?

What I really wanted was something more masculine and military-like. The premise of AB is pretty mushy to begin with, so I wanted this scene to look a little grittier before everything completely devolves into a mush fest 😂 (Ironically, I am actually a very unromantic person IRL 😂😂). SO I did another tweak and came up with image 2. Which I actually like a lot more!

I THINK I'll be using image 2, but I'm undecided yet. What do you guys think?

Also I think I might actually paint this episode in the MPL cell shading style. It's much faster andmore systematic than the watercolour style, because I rely heavily on 'happy accidents' when using the watercolour style. We'll see!

I agree. I like the second color palette too.

I also prefered number 2. Amazing colors both but liked 2 more

Amanda Evink

I like the second pallet as well!

For fire light the first is more accurate to how they would look since it's a red light, however agreed on the second looking better.

Kuro Mono

you know what I'll say xD the warm tone would make it feel much cosier and indoor-ish versus the outdoor dark scenes so far.

I like both. I prefer number 1, because I like the vibe it gives 😘 but you could totally do both ✌🏼

Tory Galvez

Oh #2 is a nice change of pace from the rest of your palette choices! I understand the cool tones and red notes of the first image giving a fire-esque approach but so does the second one. I completely feel fairy tales in the first image too 😍😍 But after this long post it all boils down to me liking #2 for the comic strip but still very appreciating #1!!!

Lilydusk

You guys are awesomesauce! Thanks for the terrific input 😘😘😘 Seems like number 2 is the more popular choice so 2 it is 😎😎😎

Eleora Mathes

Yeah go with #2 since we aren’t in a freak I mean romantic scene yet. I think it will bring on the right reactions your going for 😄

Omg! 😍🤤♥️ left a comment in your IG post as well! Ciara’s Ride comes to mind with this! I love the 2nd image. ♥️

I think I like the "grittier" color scheme better, the secong one.

I think it depends what mood you ultimately want to portray. The first image makes the scene feel more intimate which can reflect the growing relationship between them. While second image feels more cold and serious and makes me feel like they have a more distant relationship or interaction. If that makes sense. With the facial expressions they're making and their circumstances (princess stiching wound) 2nd image seems more fitting.

The second panel definitely gives the by fire light vibe

Kaila Archeron

I really like the second one! I think the first looks more like the sun is setting while the second looks like firelight! Both are gorgeous!!! I can’t wait to see the comic!!

Hi Lily. As they are, I prefer the 2nd one. But only because it feels more realistic to the background lighting. When I saw the first one, I thought it was dusk and that there were only a few minutes left of sunlight that was giving the reddish hue. But then I saw that the background appeared dark except for the torches outside. But I love them both. Thanks for all the beauty you give us. You delight our souls.

Very astute observations guys! I really enjoyed reading all of them. And I'm glad I asked because this is a really important scene and I really want to nail the perfect mood for this 😊 I should do this more often. Y'all are awesome art critiquers 😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️ Now back to work 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

The 2nd one. It seems more intimate to me. But I don't think I am gifted in art opinion so.... I'll trust your choice and I am sure you'll make the good one. Both are breautiful and I can't wait to see the final result of all your work. Don't forget to take care of yourself !

The second one has a more intimate, quieter, more real feel to it. Love it

I agree with the 2nd image, not to be too mushy :)

Ah I'm so glad I'm not the only one who struggles with color. But your work is so lovely, it gives me hope :)

Good job on the color palette its warm and suits the mood perfectly. Im enjoying your comic immensely. Just fyi your comic is the most romantic thing I have seen yet. And I am reading almost every romance on webtoon. :D

LOVE the color palette, it is bold because it’s so different with the pink but definitely not Disney and so perfectly adjusted. Have you ever seen purple mountains in the horizon? Reminded me of those. The color palette and the art style were what drew me in but definitely Yuwa and Asura are making me stay. I’ve re-read all the chapters so many times it wouldn’t be fair not to pay for your work. thanks and keep it up! both Poppy and AB are great!
