I know people find smoking gross, but a cigarette-smoking Tora will always have me weak. Like ugghh just throw me on the ground and take me now, why don't you. Also Vincent (doesn't he look exactly like a Vincent? lmao), sorry but you'll have to make do with an imitation Hermes belt because I'm not allowed to use real brands in here. On that note, did anyone notice that the bag Erdene lent to Poppy is a Celine Trapeze? 😆

Anyway, this episode will show the dynamics between Tora, Vincent, and the other members of the gang. So it's important. Still, my favourite episodes to work on will always be Poppy and Tora episodes. And I'm gonna make sure there's gonna be tons of them as much, as I can.

That being said, even though this is a romance, I always kinda a little guilty if I don't focus enough on the 'main plot' (as opposed to focusing on the romantic interaction between the two leads). Like, am I neglecting the rest of the story and not putting enough effort into it (even though it's a romance story)? It almost feels self-indulgent. This is why I enjoy making smutty comics so much - because it's pretty much an excuse to prioritise the romance/sex over everything else xD

I guess it's one of those 'do what makes you happy' kinda thing, but I wonder if any other of you romance writers (or readers, for that matter) have faced this issue, or have any thoughts on this? I personally, always enjoy a romance title much more if there's an actual plot weaved in. But if the main plot starts to take over, I'll skip everything just to get to the MC romance scenes. For me I'll always want to read about the MC's interactions, and I would put that at an 80-20.

Smoking isn't that gross. I think everyone pretended to smoke at one point in their life, like when you eat both sides of a Twizzler and you start pretending it's a cig. I just usually can't have a great time when I'm constantly sneezing or having extremely itchy/wet eyes. What's gross is people chewing tobacco and spitting into a clear container. NASTY.

Give me substance over fluff any day. Stephen King is not known for romance obviously, but what makes his work great is if you remove the supernatural elements, you still have a kickass drama. The creepy, weird, horror stuff is just icing on a very solid pound cake, if that makes any sense. Just my .02. 😊

For me, the romance should be the ambience behind everything, at least with romance genres. The main plot is still important af to get character dynamics going and development, but the romance should still be intertwined nicely. One WEBTOON I read had strayed like H E L L and practically killed the basis of the story (it’s romance) with all the additives. But MPL is a dark romance, so we need the dark and twisty things to show the importance of the main star... LE ROMANCE!

sleepless orchard

IMO not over-saturating a story with romance makes the relationship more engaging. When I’m reading (webtoon comics mostly these days tbh) I really appreciate when there’s actual plot development in each chapter rather than just romantic development. Buuuuut all that being said I really enjoy seeing Poppy and Tora together in just about any context, plot-rich or otherwise!

Mishmonster

I agree, with a good plot you truly get invested in the character's lives and really get to like them, it makes the romance twice as hot when it finally happens. With only the sexy times, it's kinda like porn. Random, faceless people getting it on, it might be fun to watch for a bit, but after a while...meh. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for porn. 😉 That is why Lily's AU smut is SO fabulous! Characters we know and love in the sexy situations that your mind wanders to if the episode went in a dirty direction.

NurseAmethyst

Those arms. Just. Just. *drools in spanglish* 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈

Heart2Sole

He is absolutely gorgeous,oh my!!!

KaitlynA

Totally agree! I want the detailed plot and character development...but when I reread parts, it's always the juicy romance ones.

Elen

Complex characters and an in-depth plot makes the romance so much more satisfying!

Theyri

His haaaands 🤧😍

Schkaka

I love romance and smut but it truly is so much better when there is a plot behind it and you see the characters grow. You can get a good back story and watch their interactions which makes the main characters interactions so much more heart pounding.

HazelGreene

I started writing a romance novel recently and I feel the same way, I want the romantic interactions between my leads but I have to build a plot in there somewhere.

Victoria Dias

HAHAHAHA that’s exactly what I do when the plot takes over the romance, I just SKIP SKIP *couple scene is seen* SKIP *another couple scene* I think balance is everything, like Kaichou wa Maid-sama, it was full of romance but we could understand the struggles of the plot and the reasons behind the way the characters acted! Love your work!

Noelle Hoffman

I write a little. It’s always a hard choice: plot driven or PWP (slang in the Fanfiction world for porn without plot for those unfamiliar) I guess it depends on the MCs themselves

Dianora

Romance or not, smut or not, a good plot is always needed to give the MCs depth. It's the base on which the romance / smut can flourish. So, I need both to feel satisfied. But the truth is that when I reread sth, it's the MCs' interactions that I always turn to! 😋

Shania Nowhere

I tend to work on the plot first and if I get bored, I'll write a sex scene on the side to get a feel for the characters. XD gotta keep myself balanced! Ohohohohoooo.

Bethany Runyon

I like how some authors use flashbacks, day dreams, or characters teasing another about hidden feelings during plot heavy chapters. I need just a little morsel or mention in episodes to keep me satisfied.

Lena M. Lucente

I'm a hopeless romantic.....i always value the jucy stuff with a good plot that gets right to the point. And not the same thing over and over.

irius

Tora’s forearms are SUCH a turn on here for me 😍

Tylar Findley

I’m always a sucker for a romance story. But as I got older I realized that the best romances weren’t the simple ones. From what I have seen with Poppy & Tora I feel some meaty characters coming on and an even juicier romance. I can’t wait to see it unfold especially with your beautiful artwork. (Tora’s arms in this picture look DEVINE and you are AMAZING)

JellieMonkeh

I've always found trouble with the balance of story/romance. I tend to swing opposite and put too much on the story and not enough on the romance.

Dana

I enjoy books like The Hunger Games and Divergent because there is romance in it, but the lead female character is also dealing with trying not to get killed from the government that wants to keep their dystopian world unchanged. So yeah, I'm all for more on Tora's life as long as Poppy is still involved. :)

Tory Galvez

PLOT IT UP. I love romance comics and stories but if I'm only there for the romance then isn't that just me wanting an extended porn? They both have lives outside of their budding love life and I think it's more realistic to have outside environments and forces within a story. Thank you for being so invested in your characters I'm always so happy to support you because of this 🔥💖

Penstemmon

Yikes, woof, that Ulaan/Tora family torso & arms are just 🐕😛😛.. I’ve been dying to see more of the gang dynamics. He seems to be pretty comfy around (isn’t he the) dreaded Mr. Balthuman how does that get to happen??? Backstoraaaay!!! Yay, yess, we want a full story with substance not some fluff to pretend there is a romance and random chr’s just get to f. Ff. Ff. I can’t say it. We have brains to keep busy, as well as a heart and ovaries that need to feel the feels! Bring it on!

Smackers

I write romance, and I struggle with plot balance all the time! It really is difficult to craft a story that both has an intriguing plot and provides those satisfying interactions between the MCs. Personally, I try and write a lot of scenes where you only see one MC, but you can still feel the presence of the second in a really strong way because you can see the way they are influencing the first one's actions in either a positive or negative way. It helps me keep the romance at the forefront, without dropping the overall plot. You can also then build up the need in readers to see the characters come back together, which makes it all the more satisfying when it happens. But the best writing is writing that the author enjoys themselves, so you have to do you.

A story map and having milestones serves as a useful tool. It’s a good idea to flesh out your story to the fullest. Planning takes 2/3 of a project, execution is the rest.

Rose Hazard

Actually, 2/4 is planning, 1/4 is execution, 1/4 is reviewing progress.

PBz

I have this issue a lot when writing, it’s hard to stay focused on the bits and pieces that shape the rest of the world and give it dimension

Irene A

I love and so appreciate how well you develop your plot and characters. I also agree that their development, as well as the plot, help to enhance the romantic experience between them. And thus increase the Feels that your writing blesses us with.

Ni_Ni

Hello! I'm an absolute newbie but a hardcore fan of what you do (esp A's B). Thank you for everything you do. 100% endorse and support all the genuinely glorious work you give us. Thank you for being amazing.

Nicolette

I agree with you. I need a plot in the story to keep me interested. If it’s all about the smut, I get bored too easily and stop reading. Although, same can be said if it’s the other way around. Too plot heavy and not enough romance. I mean, I’m down for a slow burn, but don’t torture me with it for too long or I’ll bail on that too. I also like it more if it’s realistic, like if they’re in the middle of a dangerous situation, don’t have them suddenly make out/get smutty in the elevator while they’re running away from the bad guys. Make sense?? Anyway, aside from that, Tora‘s arms in this sketch are hot!! Broad shoulders and sexy forearms are my thing, and you draw Ulaan’s/Tora’s so well!! Hmmm... 🤤🤤😍😍😜

Antonia Moore

It does make me sad that he smokes, but I still love him.

Plum

I've only really written slice of life types of stories, but my rule of thumb is usually to have at least one "feels" moment per chapter, whether romantic or not (sometimes even something like an argument, a dangerous incident, or just an MC thinking about the other MC, anything that makes a reader emotionally involved even for just a moment), to keep things interesting so I don't feel like I'm just dragging the reader through obligatory world building setup. But then again I shamelessly write self indulgently cause either its fic or its never going to see the light of day 😂 Your writing is always beyond fantastic though so I'm super excited for when we finally get to read what you've been working on!! I'll just pretend those cigarettes are made of candy cause he's so hot when he smokes but I also cringe every time 😱🔥😍

Amr

I feel like I'm being clueless but I cannot find where to read the episodes of MPL or they not out yet? 😂😊

Anime Horror Doll

During my writing career and looking into writing different genres, since I read romance/paranormal romance a shit ton, I always loved me sexy, gotta grab my B.O.B, scenes. I loved and am good at writing them. However, they always over took the plot which was admittedly self indulgent. Insofar, you've got a good balance between plot and sex. It took me 3 unfinished novels to realize I needed more than good sexy and romantic scenes with a subpar plot. My second equally strong passion aside sex is horror. My 4th unfinished novel taught me that I needed to weave the two correctly while having a strong plot that wrings out the feels of my readers. I want to turn them on, I want to make them cry, I want them to have enough suspended disbelief to pay attention from the first page to the last. I'm a perfectionist so even with my first book, I don't want to release something I am not particularly proud of. I am now working on my 5th novel, and it is my masterpiece. It is the one I'll publish. I honestly feel that with MPL, you've got it balanced, and with how MPL 2.0 is looking, even more so! You've got your stride already, go with your gut, it is never wrong. If something isn't right or feels off, the reason will show itself and I am confident you are a pro in presenting YOUR story and passion with MPL. You do you, your fans will love what you present to us. *I am a stereotypical writer. Messy desk, an ash tray full of butts and one hanging from my mouth as I tap away at the keyboard- so Tora is sexy AF with those cancer sticks, and I bet his kiss would taste like mint, his own essence, and a tinge of tobacco. The smell of a freshly lit cigarette, to me, is one of the most enticing smells. This is ingrained in me though from childhood from my now deceased father- he passed when I was almost 12 years old. So there is nostalgia for tobacco and its smell. Lol, it's so bad for you though and I plan on quitting cold turkey when my husband and I conceive our first child. Lol when us women hit our 30s and yet to propagate, that baby clock is quite the nuisance. I say not to worry too much, You've got this in the bag Lily!🎶💋

Saratonin

It is in no way, shape or form self indulgent! 🤤

Carla

I for one am all about the stories where the author really delves into those romantic moments. In fact, sometimes when they focus too much on plot I'm all "yeah yeah, solving the mystery, avenging your family, blah blah blah. But what if they held hands?" Give me the goods!

Snow Archer

You need to find that perfect balance between the plot and romance, too much of either is bad. I love stories with the good plot, just pure romance lacks intrigue. But then if the story doesn't have enough romantic scenes, it does make me want to skip pages. So my advise is to focus on the plot, but give little things here and there to keep the steam coming

Darla (Tora’s THOT)

Lily! I thought I was the only one that found him smoking incredible sexy! I don’t find it gross - he could blow that in my face and I’d beg for more lmao!!! 😤🚬🥰

Wanders Through Books

I enjoy seeing Tora interact with his gang and am totally wondering how he's going to get out of it, but I'm always like, "Get to Tora and Poppyyyyyyyyyyy!" Lol.

Pauline Guichard

I love Poppy an Tora episodes but those allowing us to understand better the mafia system in this story, Tora's past etc, i like too,!

Mrs. Toledo

The romance is flat without the MC's interactions outside of each other. We get to see how they deal with other people, and how those interactions are changed by each other and whatnot.
