High-res artwork for Ep 12.I have a feeling y'all will have some words to say about this episode 🙈 I have a bunch, but since this bit of story isn't over yet, I'll hold my tongue for now. This is probably one of those scenes where a bit of 'reading-between-the-lines' has to be done (that is, if I managed to convey the subtexts in the scene properly). Anyway, let's discuss! <33

Good lord Tora is so sexy. I know that man is dangerous af but good gawd

larosamorada

Saving all the butt and forearm shots now! 🤣

There is so much going on here! Honestly this chapter might as well have been porn, that’s how devastating Tora looked. Someone on WEBTOON suggested that Quincey and Poppy are going to meet through their writer/book connection, so I’m interested to see how that pans out (and how jealous Tora gets). And the dynamic between Quincey and Tora! Tora’s clearly more responsible, but Quincey carrying the Balthuman name (and power) provides such a complex power struggle.

Emily Basso

Such an amazing episode 🤯 so many feelings! So... part of me wants to be like... wow Quincey what a dick. But then I see the difference between Tora’s eyes here and in chapter 5. When he’s beating up men for Vincent Balthuman, Tora’s eyes are dead, expressionless, detached. But with Quincey, his eyes seem slightly more coherent and clear, and he seems to get legitimately angry when the man takes a shot at Quincey. Don’t get me wrong, what Quincey is saying is toxic as f**k and seeing his father treat Tora like a dog might have just rubbed off on him too... and there is no doubt Tora’s not loving doing the dirty work, but I get a small feeling that Tora’s feelings here are more along the line of his usual mood of neither feeling remorse or pleasure in intimidating and roughing up obviously sleazy people — it’s just what he does. It may just be wishful thinking but I hope that Quincey and Tora are actually close and this is all an act (or at least mostly an act) for the benefit of scaring the shit out of that CEO.

You said read between the lines and subtext? 🤔 *immediately goes back to read chapter again* what did I miss? I do want to say that it absolutely burns me that Quincy treats Tora like a dog. I don't like it and I'd throw down for my sexy bean. 👿🗡️, yeah I'm using a sword too 🤣 However, I'm hoping this is just a front and they're really friends but I'm not convinced. As always that was a beautiful chapter and I stared at those full shots of Tora and his forearms for too long but 🤷🏾‍♀️😏

Oh lord! So much show in this chapter! The cool and collected attitude of Quincy! I love that we get to discover him further as a character here, as well as learn how his and Tora’s relationship works. Both men are dripping with testosterone. I mean Damn. The green color used in theses scenes is so chilling. I can’t wait to see more of Quincy. Here tho, we get to see that he knows the power that he has in his name as well as over Tora. He says he doesn’t care if he’s insulted but it’s not the full case (in my humble observation). Tora shows his strength once again, making me melt whenever he’s on panel! The way he acts is automatic and quick. No hesitation and very calculated. I am so excited to see more of their relationship together. Here it’s amazing to see their work relation and it’s great to keep in mind for when they’re in a different: more relaxed setting. My mind is racing with the excitement of how the future will bring out their individual personality and how Poppy will shake things up. Can’t wait until next Saturday! 😍😍💕😍😍

Quincy's transformation has me shook.

I also love the contrasting scenes — of Tora lighting up his cigarette here and Morrison coughing with Tora not giving a shit — compared to him stubbing it out when Poppy coughed. The smoke becomes part of his intimidation routine and it’s so subtle and perfect.

Honestly, I didn’t take Quincey being a dick to Tora at all. I saw it as a roll they each play. In my opinion, I think Tora is Quincy’s bodyguard/protector/brother/friend, and in order to make a show of force, Tora is the muscle/backup to Quincy’s name. Due to his name, Quincy needs to act a certain way and not let people walk all over him, because if his dad finds out, he will do worse. So, by “showing” that Tora is an unhinged underling that does Quincy’s bidding at the snap of his fingers or by a word from his “master”, provides the illusion of Quincy’s power and thereby creating fear of the unknown. Typically, most people fear the unknown, and Quincy and Tora are using that against the CEO here to get what they want from him. What that is, I don’t know yet, but that’s my super long opinion of this episode. I may be wrong, but this is why I don’t dislike the way Quincy is treating Tora.

Olive S

I don't get it : why are you trying to somehow defend or justify Quincey s behavior. He is a Balthuman and it shows. Yeah, maybe Tora s acting a little more detached when he s with Quincey cause he knows that he is not 100 % like his father and maybe, just maybe, he hasn't the balls to kill that easily like the old man. I mean: yes, they grew up together but not as equals. Tora is the gift puppy to the son of a ruthless man. Of course the puppy is attached to the kid who plays with him and afraid of the one who keeps the leash tightened.

Olive S

I don't think they discussed anything. That's exactly the issue. They are not equals and Tora knows exactly his place in their "friendship"

Shelby

Just read the new episode and I got to say I’m loving the new contrast in character with Quincy. He is acting more the part of the son of a mafia.

SOPHIA A

Lilly will we ever learn about n Quincey's scar?

Schkaka

Quincy is obviously still spoiled Tora said he would pick him up and then when he got sick of waiting he gets himself a sports car that he apparently doesn't want to drive. I think Quincy just knows how to use his name to his advantage/ play the I am a mob boss's son and he has Tora to back him up. I mean he called the guy honey. I dont think that's mob lingo 😂

JCM

I get this feeling that Quincy plays at mafia while Tora is completely immersed in it— that the dynamic will change once they leave the office with what they want. Like someone mentioned above... I keep thinking back to the scene with Tora locked and sobbing in the sewer/dungeon as a child, while Quincy is completely unaware of it. The father broke and remolded Tora in his own image (or so he thinks), but it would seem he protected Quincy to a degree. It will be interesting to see their dynamic teased out a bit more and definitely what the introduction of Poppy will do to their relationship. Excited to read more!!

I haven't read up on everyone's opinions yet, but this episode really made me take to Quincey a lot. Obviously he isn't going to be nice to Tora in front of a client or it would completely undermine his authority and his mission for being there, but with all the eye contact and understanding between the two of them, there's a seriously well developed dynamic at play. It's so expertly done. Lily you really outdid yourself this time!

Annie J

I have a feeling it might be a well oiled routine between the 2 of them. I can almost hear Tora telling Quincey :"Stop stalling and get on with it!" I can't wait to know what happened with the CEO for Quincey to bring in Tora. Since I read that comment about Quincey's scar, I can't help but think it might have been a turning point for Quincey and Tora. Maybe before that, Quincey was the mafia brat he was raised to be, using people, accepting violence as normal. Maybe Quincey got kidnapped as a child by a rival gang and Tora was there to protect him. After that, I can see Quincey getting detached from his father business and wanting a more normal life, while keeping Tora at his side to feel safe.

Olive S

K... We re all making assumptions here and only Lily knows how the story unfolds. I guess my opinion is strongly influenced by the fact that I really dislike Quincey. 🤔😜😜 Anyway... I was thinking about this episode the hole day...My brain hurts! 💭🤯🕳️

Lauryn Padgett

Now I understand why Poppy gets to know Quincy now, love your art and stories!

Rox

I’m dying to know why Tora is putting up with all this. There must be a reason. He isn’t a boy anymore. Clan and mafia is not his thing. Tora is hot but his behavior and acceptance of position of a dog makes him way less attractive. Sitting tight and waiting.

Tye

Hard to believe we/poppy ( because clearly this fandom is poppy 😂😉) might actually like Quincey

Angeline

Lily, your world-building is truly ingenious. Thank you for all of your effort & skill. ❤

Patty

Man i know i have a type because my attraction to quincey is about 0 and my attraction to tora is off the charts

MollzJJ

I’m late in the conversation, but just re-read all the chapters and I’m convinced this is a pre-planned show put on by Quincy with Tora playing along. Now, whether Tora cares how he’s treated by Quincey or not isn’t clear to me, but I think he’s helping Quincy put on this ruse because he gets paid to do whatever Quincey wants. Trying to figure out the dynamics of their relationship, there are some hints. When Tora leaves that meeting after the boss kills those guys searching Goliath’s place, Tora tells him he has a “cold to nurse” which is probably Quincey. Then after Poppy runs after Mr. Lam and he’s driving, he calls Quincey to confirm he has a conference in a couple of hours and he’ll pick him up. At some point he must have texted Quincey to tell him to take a cab instead because he decided to chase after Poppy. When Quincey shows up in the yellow car, Tora admonished him a little about buying a car just because he told him to take a cab to see his boss. That’s not really how a mob “dog” would take to his boss, but then Quincey tells him he has a job for him and it’s time to get to work with a serious face. That makes me think they’ve done this kind of thing before and now we find out Quincey isn’t the innocent cinnamon roll from version 1.0. I don’t think it’s a fun and games ruse where they were planning it out Oceans 11 style, because at the end of the day, Quincey is a gangster’s son and knows how to use the mob system of violence. I don’t think he’s evil like his dad, and he might actually think Tora is a friend, but they have conflicting dual relationships of the over-protective bodyguard/spoiled child vs. loyal muscle/savvy child of a mob boss. Quincey will and use whichever role is needed for given situations and Tora is going to do whatever Quincey needs because that’s how he survives a ruthless system. Sadly I don’t think Tora has any real friends because you can’t trust anyone enough to call friend in this life. Enter Poppy who will rock his world and probably cause him a lot of trouble, which is going to make such a great story. Whew! Thoughts?? 😀😬😁

latentblonde

@mollz Exactly what I came here to say--Tora flat out tells Quincey he's coming to pick him up and then changes his mind. He calls him Princess, which is sightly more affection than I'd save for someone always who talked to me the way Q does in these eps, and there is just too much history between them. That all being said Tora also rushed right over to Goliath's aid despite G ratting on Tora and getting him arrested. If anything I think my best guess is this helps illustrate the kind of person Tora is at heart (forgiving, caring, ready to go to bat for his friends, and once you're in with him you stay there). I'm assuming he has no family, so the kids growing up skating and hanging with T are probably the only family he knows, and even when family is crap to you a lot of people consider it better than nothing. Lily is really great at interplay between characters and their actions subtly telling a lot about them. She knew we weren't going to like Quincey right off the bat here, so I'm really interested to see what turns the audience back toward him as a character.

Olive S

guys, don't forget that he acts pretty bold and tough around big boss balthuman himself so.... don t try to see deeper than the surface... it s too early, the story will reveal the truth, in the end

MollzJJ

Latentblonde & Olive - love your comments. Can’t wait to read next episode tonight and see how much is revealed!

Lawren

I just had a thought. What if Quincey is gay?! And the manuscripts are gay romances that he writes using another name 😱. Ya’ll I just love the idea of Poppy falling for a gay man 🤣 she totally would. I don’t know why I get the feeling that he is but for whatever reason I do. Has anyone else gotten that feeling about him?

Irene A

The eyes have it. Forgive my play on words, but the skill at which you convey the Feels and intent in Tora's eyes always amazes me. Astounding work!

AuntWacky

Yeah, I agree as to what's been said already: that outside of work. Quincey's and Tora's attitudes toward each other are very different. Quincey seems spoiled but he knows he's spoiled, which means he wields what power he has with a definite purpose. What that purpose is, we don't know yet. But it could be for good or evil. To me, he bought the car simply because he could. He may have even bought it just to say nanny nanny boo boo to Tora. That means he has a sense of humor, albeit a warped one. Of course, when it comes to growing up as the son of a mafia don, probably everything is warped. Tora is certainly warped, but he is aware of it, too. Once you're aware of a problem, it's a lot easier to solve. Tora is not 100% corrupted for some reason. As for Quincey, it's too soon to tell.

Sabrina Chase

If this subplot goes the way I hope it will it will be printed out, laminated, and taken to bed by any number of authors who would *dearly love* to have a mafioso beat up their publisher to get their book rights reverted :D (And Tora is rolling his eyes thinking "dude, you are pissing yourself in fear and you aren't even BLEEDING, WTF?")

Hien

I just want to say your understanding and conveyance of form and anatomy is incredible! There's no dialogue needed to feel how dangerous Tora and Quincey are. They're both confident and you portray that at a top-tier level. There's one panel specifically that really gets me of Tora's backside where he is holding Morrison's head down against the table with that cocked hip and crazy sexy ferocity of a huge tiger about to go in for the kill 🥵🥵 I'm amazed honestly and i'm so excited to see where you go with MPL!!! Please, take all my money 😭

Wanders Through Books

Love how he's so casually mashing some guys face into the table like he does it every day..... oh, wait.....
