Warning: Ranty post ahead! Please skip if you don't want an eyeful of Lily's angry, pms-induced ranting. If you're going to tell me to ignore the comments, you should probably stop as well - going through reader feedback semi-regularly (as unpleasant as might sometimes be) is a critical part of my job, and not something I can skip or ignore.Anyways, I fixed Poppy's outfit after going through the comments on Webtoon.  But the hair stays, because it's part of the plot. This is something I definitely saw coming. To be clear, I loved what she had on before this. But I also love clothes, and fashion, and trends, as much as the next girl. And I can see *exactly* where everyone who didn't like outfit #1 is coming from. To me, Poppy in outfit # definitely looked very professional and capable. But I agree, hands down, that it was a way too 'mature' and ageing look, for her. And this is coming from someone who's been in a corporate and business environment for years, surrounded by walking business suits, literally everyday, lmao.Don't get me wrong. I'm not ranting about the comments, which have mostly been constructive and on point. I won't even be surprised if a handful of you, myself included, feel the same way(if you do, but are keeping it to yourself, you are an angel for protecting me from that bitter pill, and I thank you for that ❤️).I guess I'm just frustrated, because drawing 'fashionable' clothing is *hard*. It is MUCH harder than I thought it would be. For me at least, it's even harder than drawing accurate anatomy (which is far less subjective, to begin with). It's easy to shop for clothes irl and pick out the perfect outfit for myself. But drawing it on a 2D character is a whole different beast, especially when she has the complete opposite body-type from my own.I have tons of respect and love for Webtoons like Edith and True Beauty who have the prettiest outfits for their characters. I could stare at them for hours on end, happily taking in all that eye candy. Unfortunately, MPL isn't that kind of comic, where 'fashion' is a part of the entire appeal and selling point. At least, not right now, as much as I want it to be. I'm ALL for fashion-y things (I love it to bits), but there's also a production aspect that I have to consider - some outfit choices have to be made to optimise production rate. So really, what might seem like Poppy wearing 'dowdy' clothes is really the artist (aka me) having to cut down on the 'fashionable' element, in order to deliver the episode on time. And ngl, it's also very frustrating how Poppy is constantly being SCRUTINISED for her outfit choices, and Tora could appear in a rag and everyone would still him to choke them, lmao.<Rant over>

Tora come see your girrrrllllll she is a beautyyyyy😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Bekkit Sal

To be honest, I've always been too impressed with your artwork to even notice the clothes 😅😅😅. Please keep up the fantastic work. Your art and character design is beautiful. Poppy is stunning no matter what she wears 😊❤❤❤

Fiona Carton

I wanna say right off that both outfits are BEAUTIFUL, I absolutely love your style and the buildup to poppy being more professional was absolutely on point, the personality and confidence change was the kicker, the outfit is a booster

Kaitlin

Just went and looked at the comments. I did not feel the same way reading the episode. Didn’t Poppy make a point in an earlier episode that she needs money for more professional clothes at work? That outfit that Erdine put her in is business professional AF.

Black_Rain

Oooh I loved the outfit. I’m sorry people were complaining or ragging on her outfit. I can’t imagine how much time and effort it takes to draw everything you do. And for the people who said ‘it’s too frumpy/not trendy enough’ my word you think IRL a girl would go from dressing young and innocent to fashion boss in one try??!! And with someone else’s clothing on top of that?!??? Please. Don’t change it if you love it the way it was the first time (I loved it!) just because people are complaining. Some people would just try to push you to do what they think is best (tora lost all of his shirts-oh no!) but you’ve got the big picture in mind and are doing an excellent job at keeping the comic grounded and real feeling. All the best 🤍

Firefly

Yikes, Lilydusk. You're having a bad day and here I am sending you my confusing problem through the messaging page. So sorry! I, like you and the others, thought Poppy looked mature in her outfit but I also thought it was because she was trying to look mature to be able to talk to Mr. Lam and have him take her more seriously since the past episode she worried that she looked like an unprofessional teenager. It all made sense to me so I didn't think it was something out of plot.

Closet Artist

Honestly I had no issues with her outfit. I assumed since she was tracking down the old guy that she was trying to look more mature since he said she looked like a teen. And hey it’s your comic....you do you babe (and however you want to draw clothes). I’m just loving the storyline. 💜

Dee

I thought she looked great in the other outfit! Poppy can wear sweats or pencil skirts and still impress big bad Tora. 😍😍 Keep up the great work we all appreciate it!!

Eli Bee's Blurbs

Um I thought outfit number 1 was perfect for Poppy, I loved it. But I guess I see everyone point 🤷🏾‍♀️ Anywho, you're doing a fantastic job! Your artwork is beautiful, but it's nice that you take criticism so well. Also, that comment about Tora being in rags while everyone scrutinises Poppy is so spot on!!! It's a ridiculous quality of our society isn't it...😩 Keep doing what you do Lily Dusk, I'd honestly love anything you put Poppy in, she's so damn adorable 😍

Stephanie T

I honestly thought it was super cute. But I also wear band shirts and leggings so I don't know fashion either.

Dizzy

Lily this is your story to tell, show us the things you want us to see whenever you can. I feel like, and I don't want to speak for everyone, i feel like we will love whatever you see fit to give us because this story is just so damn good. Your storytelling is phenomenal, the visuals are always stunning, and I'm personally grateful for every gorgeous chapter you put out.

Yhanee

Amen to that, Lily! I support you girl. I noticed that Poppy’s outfit was quite a bit different during that episode but you’re the author, you know better. Whatever you decide their outfit will be, I’m sure it will be great ever since you started MPL. The characters, their fashion and the overall art of MPL is absolutely fabulous! 😍❤️👍🏻 Just keep going. 😉

slenderali

As someone who literally works in fashion and has worked in professional environments, I'm SO fucking confused as to what was bothering people about her initial outfit?

Kaitlin

I’m surprised to hear anyone scrutinizing Poppy’s outfit choices, bc I think they are always so indicative of her personality. In the Mr. Lam episode, she specifically worries that she looks like a teenager in her clothes. I think she’s just trying to figure out her professional style. She looked good. Erdine put her in that. I liked the first outfit. I like this one too. I love her in her casual outfits as well. And I also wouldn’t mind seeing Tora in rags.

Hayley Tymczyszyn

The fact that people are even criticizing poppy for her fashion is preposterous. She dresses like everyone wants to and they can’t pull off. So they criticize.

Beth T.

It's unfair how men have suits that all -- more or less -- look exactly the same and they can just throw on, while us women have to spend so much time and energy and money on a "professional wardrobe". I liked the version #1 outfit, though. I liked the contrast from "Why can't someone else just do it" to Poppy getting sh*t done while looking like a million bucks. Now I just wonder how her hairstyle plays into all of this.. 😳

Olive S

Oh, Lily, I just love you, your story, your characters, exactly the way they are. It doesn't really bother me... the choice of the outfit, the color or the model of the car... or the little mistakes that appear along the way... Honestly I think I even love all of that too... . It is what makes your story unique. My life is better with your imaginary story in it! 😍

Alison

I think she looked good. You know your characters and story the best, so where people have rights to opinions, I wouldnt take people's opinions to heart too much. Constructed criticism can be good, but dont let people get to you either. You do you. We all love you and your work ❤

Camille A.D.

I feel dumb or like I missed something, but which one is the first one? The one in this post or the one on Webtoons? 😬

Lilah Berry

Considering the fact that fashion is subjective, I'd say you should follow whatever you feel best suits your characters, your style, and your schedule. If you agree with criticism and choose to revise, that's fine, but you certainly shouldn't feel like you have to. There's no way to please everyone after all. Personally, I think both outfits are great, and I've definitely felt the fashion in MPL is on point.

MaKayla Spring

I really felt her new outfit was far more professional looking. After seeing bits of 1.0 i feel like yes the brown dress was cute but its something I feel atleast I would wear to a fair or carnival or a picnic in the park. I wouldn't wear it to the office. Also I took a painting class and the only assignment I failed was painting a still life of fabric. Its extremely hard. I think i actually put that one in a bon fire bc I hated it so much

Lucy F

I truly believe in constructive criticism (note: constructive). I also really admire your commitment to your craft in acknowledging what your readers have to say and going through individual comments. It just shows how much you love what you do and value us as readers. That being said, I’m not in the habit of critiquing art and storylines that have yet to be told or really in general. I enjoy everything I read and I love being included in your process and thoughts. (Also the smut ngl)! 😆 anyway, I am not going to badmouth anyone who critiqued you’re work because they’re entitled to their opinions but I really think you’re incredible and although I’ve never met you, your art and stories, coupled with how you treat us, tells me you’re an awesome person who just loves to draw and write and script and that’s bloody awesome! Ok I blabbed a lot. MPL is my number 1 comic to read and I’m so excited to see version 2.0 really taking off! Thanks for including us. ❤️

AliKap

People...were...upset with the...outfits? That is what they are paying attention to? Not the story? Or the developments? Poppy is trying to look more professional in this. I think the outfit is just fine. You do you. You're doing amazing! Also. Please let put Tora in a rag. (To be fair...it'd be a hell of a Secret Garden. Poppy in high fashion and Tora in a rag. That boy would rather have her in her 'normal' clothes anyday. Or...well ..naked.)

Darla (Tora’s THOT)

I love both outfits lily! Besides her FRIEND gave her the outfits and styled her! When I saw her outfit I even wanted to get a cute pencil skirt like hers too! Ppl love nit picking urghhh! And yes tora can be wearing a damn burlap sack and I’d do everything nasty to him still...😅

comicbookwaifu

My thoughts exactly on everyone’s comments here (sorry for piggy backing everyone’s comments, but I’m trying not to regurgitate). I’m really sorry Lily and I support you 1000%. The outfit # was great and tbh, it was an outfit I was thinking of wearing as my own office attire. Keep being strong (to those overly critical comments) and keep being YOU. You are pure magic ✨

Lori Landers

I'm really getting tired of people who cant just read the comic and enjoy it without finding something to constantly bitch about. You clearly work very hard to create this awesome comic and the last thing you need is people picking it apart. This is why I stopped writing fanfiction.

Annie J

I'm sorry you had to go through this. I like both outfits as I see it as part of the plot development. Yes, she wants to look mature and professional, so she's gonna dress the part. I did the same at job interviews when I was fresh out of university. It bothers me a lot to see people criticising authors for things they don't fully understand or when they feel the characters are not acting like themselves (how THEY feel they should act). Who knows the characters better and the reasons behind their choices or action than their creator? We only see a glimpse of a fully planned story every week. Shut up and wait, is what I want say. Maybe all that will come into play 50 episodes later. You never criticize a piece of art before it's completed! I love the closeness to creators that the internet and social medias allows but I hate that some people feel like it entitled them to disrespect and try to manipulate the creators' creations. You have all my love, respect and admiration Lily. ❤❤❤❤

Pankiezie

So basically, youre an artist and youre sensitive about your ish... On a critical note, I feel the dress may be more something that looked like poppy would own rather than Erdine. Erdine style usually pops or contrasts in some way, whereas Poppy is more muted/solid. Thats my theory as to why some were disappointed. Unfortunately, Normal person + Anonymity + Audience= Total Fuckwad. Its hard not to take fuckwad criticism personal, no matter how talented you are. Thank you for clearing up the reasons you choose to keep some things the way they are- especially to meet deadline cause I need my weekly fix!😉 Lastly, on a more positive note, you are INCREDIBLY gifted in drawing emotion in the most subtle way and this is what moves people and make them feel connected to the story. Keep doing what you do you have a diverse talented mind. And for the record, Ive admired all the clothing choices thus far.. especially Quincey.. woo chile😅

Samantha Troia

I honestly love seeing the different outfits each artist creates in their own artistic styles- especially you as one of my now fave artists/storytellers! You are relatively new at being a comic artist, especially one with such a fast growing readership, so while it is good to internalize constructive criticism, just remember that you can't please everyone and that most of us love your art, your story, and you! But feel free to vent on this space whenever- I think tons of us value your need for a space to vent about the mental and emotional trials that go into your work. Oh. And I also think criticizing Poppy's outfits is sexist AF and honestly I'm just so amazed at how well you draw all these outfits and keep them so seamless in your art. ALSO forgot to add that I honestly think outfits are the meh most part of any story since I am usually so wrapped up with facial expressions, shading, anatomy, and dynamic angles in a work. And you nail them, bby.

Senpai98

Dunno what everyone’s on about, I loved it! Be damned if I wasn’t expected to dress up for a corporate meeting in REAL life. It makes sense for anyone to look more sophisticated and mature when heading to a meeting of importance, it was relayed well in the comic! 💯 💛

1kimchee

Aww... I'm so sad that you had to deal with the negativity ☹️ I don't fastpass may way through Webtoons because I'm a stingy bicth, but I absolutely loved Poppy's look in the sneak peek I saw through Patreon--it's a sharp cut and professional version of her that we've not seen before. She's a well-rounded woman who has more facets to her character than being a cute clumsy cinnabon who needs saving all the time and you do amazing job portraying that. Also "professional" attire has a lot of nuance depending on where you work and what you think you need for confidence, and sometimes a little extra is what you need for confidence. Plus being a little over-dressed is always better than being under-dressed because then you can be an absolute QUEEN

Liz Woods

I found nothing wrong with Outfit #1. In fact, I felt it is very authentic that Poppy would choose an outfit that made her look older given her inexperience and desire to be taken seriously. I get that she had her colleague/friend help her so it may be off plot but it was definitely NOT out of character.

Emma Lou

This makes me so sad & angry. People will always have something negative to say annoyingly no matter what you do. You're an amazing artist Lily and don't let people tell you otherwise. I really liked the pencil skirt and was definitely something I used to wear for work in my early 20s. (unless I was just that unfashionable and didn't know) Happy you felt you could share your rantings on Patreon though so people know how you feel. I feel that people just demand too much from authors and the mental and physical drain is too much for them. Unfortunately in this world people think you always owe them something for some reason or another. It's like Quim not releasing an Ep last Friday and everyone went into meltdown about her not informing people, when honestly she doesn't need to tell people shit. But yeah glad you have had your rant so I've been able to have mine about toxic readers who think they deserve the best when they couldn't even draw a stick man or know the amount of thought and effort going into this. You know to write a decent story is a feat to draw that story as well is awesome. So just stay awesome Lily. 👍 Xxx💜xxX

Kal

Aww, as someone who is probably around Poppy's height, also with a very young and innocent looking face for my age, I really identify with Poppy struggling to be taken seriously by others without having to dress more maturely and professionally. It's awesome to see Poppy make up for that though with her determination and wit.

Janell Cash

Yeesh, people always have something to say. I don't see them drawing a Webtoon!

Keleigh Block

😍 I'm so in love with both of these outfits, they are both so professional but beautiful! They both look great on poppy, you're doing a wonderful job!

Rosaline

Everyone's an F-ING critic I swear. No hun your doing fantastic.

Rayne

I get what you were going for with that first look. Personally, I loved it because she looked ready to take on the world, and it was a new view of Poppy we normally wouldn’t be able to see. She looked wonderfully professional and ready to make Mr. Lam choke on his own words. And let’s not forget how Tora would react if he saw her hehe. But I can also see why people thought it aged her. I think if you tweaked a thing or two (i.e. the cut of her sleeves, diamonds or danglies instead of pearls, etc.) it could possibly be the compromise you’re looking for? For what it’s worth, I liked your original design because of the fact that it made her look older and more like a badass businesswoman. Sadly, we just live in a world where you can’t please everyone. Don’t let it get to you too much. Your content is amazing and I enjoy every panel of it!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ ✧゚・: *ヽ(◕ヮ◕ヽ) *sending you some sparkly support*

Lisa Goerlitz

I definitely understood her original outfit. She was trying to boss up in my opinion. But im sorry that people cant appreciate your art for what it is and compare it to other stories that frankly have no parallels at all. You are an amazing artist who I have been following for a long time now and have watched your art evolve and it has been simply amazing. Dont let these comments get you down!!

LS1988

I must be getting more "mature" then because I thought the first outfit was not only pretty but also super appropriate. Funny, at 31 I don't feel old, but I do work with kids born in a whole different century so...

Schkaka

Honestly lily it's your comic and if she should be wearing outfit one then so be it. Yes the hair and outfit make her look older and more mature...but I think they both look good. My opinion I think her hairstyle goes better with the first outfit. I agree most of the webtoon comments are likely teenagers and preteens who wouldn't know maturity or style if it hit them in the face. At the same time it is good that you take in all criticism and you have all your patrons to vent to. Criticisms is good but not always done nicely. We love you lily and all you do!

Lizzaye

Honestly, I love outfit #1. It's an outfit that I see many office ladies wear and it really is very professional looking. I don't see any issue with how it supposedly ages her or anything of the sort. I mean, damn, when someone dresses up, of course they'll look older and more matured. Even a normal person who dresses up on a special occasion, will look older, if not slightly older than they are. Unless you're on Toddlers and Tiaras, now that's a no no. Gosh. People.

Kit Sykes

So you're upset someone had an opinion that you don't like and your trying to make it some feminist thing? Epic reach there. There are people who don't fawn over everything you do, real life.. People are paying to read your comic. So food with reports like "where is there comic" aren't helping you by being petty. You drive from criticism, even the criticism you don't like.. You aren't doing this for free or if there kindness of your heart. People are paying, and that was the softest opinion I've seen anyone give before. They didn't like an outfit.. But I'm sure the ladies here will go on their rants to tell you how completely perfect you are and how crap anyone with an opinion otherwise is and you'll be back on your feet on no time..

Ann Om

I get hella anxiety reading through the comments sometimes, I can’t even imagine what it must be like for the creator. Please know that we love your artwork, and that we respect the choices you make regarding your characters. At the end of the day, they are your babies, and we are grateful that you chose to share them with us 💖

MadCoolKid

Seriously?? Who complains about outfits??? Sheesh

Nicolette

I’m a bit confused, are you changing the outfit to the one pictured here or already changed it?

larosamorada

Speaking as someone that has also worked in a corporate environment, there was nothing wrong with the first outfit. Yes, it made Poppy look more mature and it might not be something she wears every day, but that's not the point in the plot. Mr. Lam literally said she looked like a teenager and she wanted to look more professional. Also, in regards to the comments about Erdene's style- did they ever think that maybe Erdene took items out of her closet that would be more Poppy's style when put together? I don't see Erdene putting those elements together in a million years, but she knew they worked for Poppy. Lastly, as someone who has provided constructive criticism to an author before over mental health aspects of a comic (y'all know what I do), I get the need and the space for CC. But there is a professional and kind way to do it. Those WT comments were not it.

Bonny Rozzi

Love, just love. It's perfect. Thank you for Tora. Period. 😘

sleepless orchard

Didn’t read the comments myself but I respect how you took the criticism! I also really enjoy seeing more of the process that goes behind creating and editing a comic, so thank you for sharing. And yeah, I agree that there is a sexist undertone to why as readers we feel the need to comment on Poppy’s outfit. It’s one of those things where we should perhaps take a moment to think about why “it ages her” is considered a valid criticism to begin with. The internalized sexism is real yo

LP

I noticed the outfit change but it’s your comic to play with as you will so I’m just here for the ride tbh. I participated in Inktober witches prompts once and it was a nightmare to think up a new outfit daily (reasons why I never went into fashion). I have no idea how swansgarden is able to come up with all her outfits for Edith bc lbr I want ALL OF THEM. NOW. It’s incredible. There’s one outfit with a blue and white striped skirt I’m still not over. That all aside, you are already doing such fantastic job with all the artwork and changes anyway and Poppy is not a character I’m expecting to pop out with The Most Fashion, especially so near the beginning of the story or possibly even the whole story.

Trychtopus

You're exactly right. We should be demanding that Poppy choke us, too. C'mere, sweetheart. ;) In all seriousness, if the clothing a character wears are people's biggest beef, and not the pacing or plot holes or loose ends or inconsistent characterization, then you're nailing it, in my opinion. People will ALWAYS criticize and scathingly so online with the blessing of anonymity, so the fact that it ended up being something as benign as an outfit choice is a testament to your talents.

GenX

Didn’t know there was a big fuss but I noticed the different outfit. I didn’t care much about it coz I believe you have a valid reason for the change. I’m enjoying the storyline and that’s good enough for me. Keep it up, Lily, you’re doing great.

MissT

Awww both outfits are great. I thought the first one was mature in a GOOD way. She wasn't dressing for Tora, but to close a business deal. I'm sorry some didn't see that.

Barbara Viggo Enoch

Just wanted to add. Dear author, if your comic is popular it is for a good reason. If it felt right for you to do it this way or that way please do so and have confidence. the more popular your story will get, the more you will have to deal with bad comments. But remember that if so many people tired themself giving their opinions it is because your story matters to them. There were time I was like "why did she do that?" and then a few chapters later it all made sense and it felt great to see how much conrtrol you can have on your story. Your confidence on your storytelling can just bring me joy. As I read just a moment ago, I pay you. But no I don't. I don't pay you, I support you with 5$ per month to do your thing, not mine. And that's why I am willing to do it. I didn't made a special order on this webtoon. I discovered it, and decided to support it because I liked it. Even if I didn't I could read it for free. BUT really happy my money is thanked with smuth =_= I have a high respect of the efforts you pull to make your story. Please keep going. I just need you to do, grow and love what you do.

Skyrose777

I loved her outfit, and I'm sorry people want to pick apart details like that, since your artwork is beautiful and carefully planned. I think they're both great. Regardless of Poppy's outfits, I am always excited to read the next episode.

Monica Maes

Personally, I have never took her outfit for more than what she wears. I work in a professional environment, but I wear what will make me feels good for myself and what will help me deliver the best performance. In my opinion, Poppy looks great in everything and thank you so much for everything that you do. Especially for MPL because I look forward to it every week.

Kaitlin

I appreciate how dedicated you are to your craft! Reading criticism is hard, and there will always be non constructive comments mixed in with constructive ones. What’s hard is that the mean comments almost always are the ones that stick in our brain and drown out all the nice ones. I have found that every panel of MPL is very purposeful, and worth analyzing the heck out of. If, after reading people’s comments, you feel like the first outfit is ultimately wrong for the story you’re telling, I get it. I think everyone here (I mean, maybe minus one person lol) wanted to lift you up because we care about you and love the story you’re telling. Also, those comments ARE indicative of how we view women. Does anyone ever use the terms, “frumpy” or “ages her” with a guy? Never.

angrymartialartist

I love both outfits!!! And I think people are being more harsh on Poppy than they need to be. She's different from the typical strong female protagonist. She's curvy (thicccc), anxious, still uncomfortable in her skin, yet getting bolder each day (or how I see it). She doesn't need to be ultra fashionable from the start. I like her cute hoody and baggy sweaters look. But it is a real treat to see her in different outfits, which makes these moments so much more rewarding!!!!! Love everything about your work!!

Agrothia

Not gonna lie, I loved her original outfit and didn't see anything wrong with it. I've worked in a professional environment for a fashion company in the past, and both outfits are fabulous. You're doing a fantastic job Lily, thank you for sharing your art and story with us!

Anna

She looked fabulous in the first one, but still looks cute as all get out in the new outfit. Thank you for your hard work.

CherryBluster

Totally feel your frustration and it breaks my heart that there were negative comments. I really relate to how poppy dresses, it feels normal and cute and like a real person. I'm in a similar stage of life as her and the struggle to find something cute and affordable that fits well is tough and isn't my top priority as a young professional trying to earn my stripes.

Snow Archer

I missed the whole commenting part, but honestly, both outfits look great!

AnimeAngel2012

The outfit made sense to me going by the events of the story. I can see that and it looked very nice. I was also like some of those comments with how it seemed like an odd choice for Poppy to wear something in a certain setting but later on it kind of explains itself in flashbacks and certain dialogue. The 'too mature' outfit is going to make sense later and it makes sense now. If you already had the fastpass and read it, read it again carefully and you can understand then. Please excuse me for being vague. I don't know if everyone here has already seen it yet. I just wanted to say how i felt about it. It's just hope that others learn that judging something now doesn't always mean that it doesn't have reason for being there like i have.

HazelGreene

Girl shopping irl for me is torture so I can't imagine drawing it and trying to remain in fashion. You are doing amazing already but I understand wanting to better yourself so I hope you succeed!

Ailsa Lillywhite

I have always been drawn to your artistic style, and everyone I have spoken to about it has the same thing to say about you, that you make characters look beautiful and fully in character re- their manner and fashion choices. I personally love the aesthetic choices you make, including clothing. I like both outfits, but I understand why you felt compelled to make this change. As someone who works in a professional industry with dress standards that are hard to maintain without aging myself up about two decades, I get it. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the things you find more difficult, you’re doing amazing and as great as those first drawings that drew me in were, you’re constantly improving and it’s really inspiring to watch.

sara bedard

I love poppy. No matter what she wears. Your art also is amazing!

AnnahKat

Hahaha the Tora in a rag comment had me lol. Poppy a bause. She could be in a rag too and I would still love her. She’s got that wolf in sheep’s clothing thing going on and I fuckin love it. Everybody here thinking Tora is the force to he reckoned with, and it’s Poppy 🤩🙏

Pamela Vadell

I personally think that no matter what she wear Tora will find her simple irresistible!!😁😁😁😁😁 and cute. I like her when she wear sport . And you are doing a marvelous job no matter what 😘😘😘😘😘😘

Lola

*In Sebastian the crab’s voice* “Teenagers!” 😅 I guess that’s a sentence I never thought I would think or write and I feel like an old lady writing it. But reality is that their brains have not finished developing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ that being said, I guess they are learning to form their opinions. *sigh* My belief is we all just wish we could protect you from it. You are so good to us that we all here feel like mama bears and want to defend and shield you from these things. I think that much is evident from reading the comments here, and how much everyone supports you! *you* are *our* cinnamon roll! 😘 I love both her outfits though, and I would wear them to work if I found clothes like that, that would actually fit me! 😅 Reality is that my boobs don’t fit anywhere. 🙃 and one final thing, I will definitely miss her earrings! As someone who feels naked without them, the first thing I noticed was she finally wearing earrings and I squealed! But it’s ok, I saved the previous version and it will live forever in my heart. ♥️ Thank you for all you do, even to keep all our feelings and opinions in mind when you do your drawings. You don’t have to, but I appreciate that you do. We will still be here cheering you on, no matter what happens. ♥️

Brooke Babin

As a seamstress who worked for Vera Wang. The first outfit was great and mature, plus the bag looked like Hermez. The second outfit is more feminine. I love Poppy's character so much I want her to stay away from browns as her professional stylist. Lol

latentblonde

Eh, there are just as many comments wondering why she's there alone even though it's plainly spelled out she didn't get that text because of poor service. I think Webtoon commenters are a special breed of dumb. I did like the Discover dress better, but I had the good sense to comment on it in a fan-only Fb group, not where the author could see. (Although I guess now I'm part of the problem -_-)

Brooke Babin

Poppy has a fantastic name. I'd love to see her in some brilliant cardinal reds❤ like the flower.

Sarah Mays

Personally I like both outfits! I see nothing wrong with either and don’t get what people are complaining about!!

Lajolla Cleveland-Molitor

Pffft. I love me what she wore. I’m sorry, people suck. Opinions- just like assholes, everyone has one. 😒. Keep up the hard work. You put in a LOT of detail into your work. I can’t wait to see mooore.

Erin O.

Are we all going to gloss over the fact that the hair is somehow important? Like... what's up with the hair? How does the hair play into the story? You've got me thinking way too hard about hair right now 😅

Laura

I have never looked at the outfits in this, or any other, webtoon & thought “This sucks, let me me tell the author all about it!” 🙄 Lol I love everything you’re doing in MPL, keep up the amazing work 💖

Annie J

I think last time an outfit caused such a controversy, people were fighting each other if the dress was gold and white or black and blue. 🤔 I was thinking either way the horizontal strips would make my butt look big...😂 I like how so far everyone's outfit is telling a story. I liked both of Poppy's outfit. I enjoy seeing her trying to go for the more mature look. But then again I think Lily can do no wrong. 😊

leah

I'm sorry this might just be a moot point by now, but I didnt think anything was wrong with the first outfit? I havent read the chapter yet, but from the picture of it here on your Patreon, I thought it was flattering, and quite appropriate! I've worn similar clothes and I worked in two business formal jobs with no problem, so I think it's annoying too that you recieved such an issue about her outfit! And that's incredible and commendable of you to put in more work than you had to to please your readers

Emily Neilsen

I don’t get it. I loved the outfit but didn’t really notice it because the story is the thing to me.

Katy

first of all, I love this outfit. it's a total upgrade. but I also respect you decisions as the arts to do what you gotta do to convey the story and do it on time. I would say Pops suffers with what most women do it the work place which is you gotta dress the part to be taken seriously! and we already know she has a limited budget to do so... a white blouse and a pencil skirt a staple in your closet. anyway we love you Lily! thank you for all the hard would that you put into your craft. I anxiously await your updates every week!

Becca Darnold

I dont know... it seemed appropriate for Poppy to look a bit "frumpy" . She was just called out for looking like a teenager... she has borrowed/donated clothes on.... and she doesn't seem like one to have awesome fashion sense (because it just doesnt seem a priority for her). I could see her try a little to hard to appear more adult this go around. Personally, I love Poppy and one of the reasons is because she is both innocent and wise at the same time. Shes reserved but has way more depth and intelligence than she let's on (I'm guessing she uses this to her advantage). One thing I LOVE about your style Lilly is that you can convey so much about a character through their facial expressions and body language. Portraying body language through drawing is no small feat and you do it flawlessly. Honestly its captivating. I'm quite invested in both Torra and Poppy and my heart hurts for them both. I cant wait each week to see this story unfold.

Amy Crumbaugh

Lily, my heart aches for you. It's such an endeavor to put yourself into your art and then to share that art with the world. Criticism always stings when it pertains to something you've created, and unfortunately there will always be critics. So feel that rage and that anger, girl! And know that the majority of us love your story no matter what the characters are wearing. I'm a fashion girl, too, but that's not why I keep coming back to MPL every week. I come for the story and the art and for all the effort you put into this labor of love. And side note: this may just reinforce your last point about Tora, but I was just thinking about his outfit choices earlier today and how you always put him in the most amazing clothes. And now that I think about it, you do the same for Poppy, too! Her outfits suit who she is, and that just heightens the reading experience!

Lawren

Put Poppy in a banana costume I don’t give a shit as long as the story keeps being great I don’t care what she wears!

Scrummycat

I loved the first outfit. I think it was very appropriate given that she is trying to impress an older gentleman. I think she should be dressing a bit "older" and avoiding anything too trendy that could read as inexperienced millenial in this situation. But both looks are great!

JCM

As someone with Poppy’s exact body type (also THANK YOU LILY for drawing her the way you do, I love seeing a heroine with rounded hips and natural-looking breasts and even a little tummy!!). I am HERE for that last bit about how people scrutinize her clothing. There is something about being a curvier woman that people wanna give unsolicited “advice” about how to dress for your size- constantly. Poppy looked great and professional in the first outfit (which was the point!) and she also looks great in this one. The WEBTOON comments section is definitely the worst and I imagine it only gets worse as your comic gains in popularity.

Marie Sooper

I loved outfit #1; it was exactly how I dressed for work in my twenties: soft drapey blouse and a pencil skirt. I could understand why people were turning to stare at her. I thought Tora would really like that blouse. Maybe you'll bring it back in the story later. ;D

longleash67

Jeez. Girl, YOU are the creator and it is YOUR world - we are just happily visiting it and enjoying the story ( and the ... ride? :) that's a Tora reference ... hee hee ) you've created. Don't let strangers push you around or make you feel you have to justify your choices for your characters. Needless to say you have reasons for your characters to dress a certain way because that is part of the personality you are creating. Creativity is a constantly changing and fluctuating state, whether its artwork or literature and writing. We love you and we are here for YOUR creations. If you want to put Poppy in a burlap sack you go - as long as it is part of her character and personality or the storyline sure why not. Now, if you need this Momma to go bring the smackdown on anybody you just let me know. I've been a regular at the gym and my latest deadlift was 220 lbs. I'm ready to throw somebody if they're hassling you. LOL All the love, keep up the good work!

Arty_Pants

Lily, I really appreciate all of your efforts to make this comic the best it can be. I love your artwork and storytelling. This is hands down my favorite comic and Patreon. I personally like the second outfit better, but the first one by no means diminished my enjoyment of the story. I hope you continue to spend your creative energy however you wish because it’s definitely working.

Irina

It's nice of you to even listen to criticism. Like some people already pointed out, don't take it to heart, you are the creator and I personally enjoy your stories no matter what they wear. I already appreciate the tattoos in the story, which I assume it's a big creative effort every time they show up. I can't imagine having to put a lot of thought into the details of the clothing with every single panel you draw. Anyway, I'm sending you some words of encouragement. Just keep calm and do what you do best.

Caitlin Purigraski

I thought the first outfit was killer. Classy, clean lines, professional. She's trying to close a deal with a multimillionaire who already called her out for looking like a teenager. Dress for the job you want. The other outfit is super cute too, but more casual. Tuesday at the office vs the big pitch meeting. Either fits Pops.

Amanda Baker

I just want to say, I just started fast passing you tonight. I love the story like, and I am not really paying attention to what either one of them are wearing because for me, it’s about the whole story. You have my fast passing all the episodes and now spending $5 a month for your wonderful creation 🙌🏻

larosamorada

So, my ADD brain does this to me sometimes, but as I was thinking about this conversation today, I couldn't help but reflect on Erdene's style. She so reminds me of a young Gwen Stefani (think 90's ska but with a 2000's twist) and I absolutely love it! It's no wonder I'm always tempted to add a No Doubt song to my playlist when she's in a scene. 💜💜

Teamogirafa

Really excited to see how Pop’s hair plays into the plot... 🤔😬

Katerina Valle

Honestly, i loved the first outfit. I just think its the younger crowd, girls in their teens and early twenties that want to see the main character dress like them. It is easier to self insert that way but also they are also much more comfortable in voicing their displeasure. I say you do you. Stick to the one you like the best! Everyone has an opinion (including me). Fuck them you waited too long and worked too hard for this.

Jan

I love all their outfits but I’m *totally* fine with them just being naked too... ☺️

saucytuggles

Cripes isn’t one of the themes as explicitly laid out by male lead to not judge people by their appearance? I am a professional woman and both outfits were attractive and appropriate. Erdine has a good eye.

Clarissa Diaz

not into this story for the outfits. Didn’t even cross my mind tbh. Don’t know why ppl care.

Alexara

I thought the first outfit was absolutely beautiful! I just thought it showed us another side of Poppy and I loved it! This outfit is absolutely beautiful too! Truly I think either one is so great

Lillehammer

Wow. Had no idea her outfit would cause so much discussion. But to be honest I like revisioned version better for the only reason that it's a change. I mean we already saw Pops in a buttoned skirt a chapter ago, so I like the dress more. It wasn't a shock to see a new outfit though. More like "ohh, so that's how she decided to go.. I'll miss the dress, but ok". I guess some people went a bit too far with "teh drama". But it's also nice to know that you listen to your audience. Not that you have to follow every suggestion and create fan service every time they ask, just the fact that you listen is good enough :)

Ari

I love the work and dedication you put in your art and storyline ❤️. Keep being awesome. Also there is an old Spanish saying “ we are not a gold coins that everyone will like us” (it sounds better in Spanish) but it holds true, in that for everyone who dislikes the change their will be people who loved it and others that don’t care and just love the story. So don’t be bogged down or be bogged and broke some dishes (it’s fun ) (do it ) lol ❤️

Breana Edwards

Poppy gives off rich bih vibes and people just can’t take it.

Chiisuteru

Aww well personally I love Poppy the way she is drawn. You do a fabulous-lovely job on your story and art. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy it ❤️😘❤️ Thank you for sharing these characters with us!

Samantha Jackson

I vote you show us what Tora would look like in a rag! 🥰 On a serious note though.. your art is amazing, keep doing you!! ❤️

Jalibean

Keep up with outfits i love them all

Ellen McDaniel

The last paragraph of your post honestly says it all 👏👏👏

Patricia @MyRomanceHasNoLimits

Just saw the latest outfit on webtoons.... WOW!!! Didn't care what outfit she had before (her personality is too strong to be defined by clothes), but... that one enhances her killer/hunt mood! Really like it :D

Savannah Spight

Wow. I am in my 40s and my little sister is in her early 20s and we loved the outfit. We never have a complaint you rock!

Smol_dragon?

I don’t know I have two different thoughts about the whole thing. I read MPL before it was featured and to me this first outfit seems more “Poppy”. To me, Poppy is more worried about getting things done than what she looks like. So I think it is so Poppy to have a plain dress that is not super flashy because she isn’t worried about that kind of thing. On the other hand the second outfit also makes sense because it came from Erdene who is a fashionista and would of course give Poppy something more current. Either way I loved it!! And can I also say that her snake skin shoes are amazing!!!😍

Randi Upton

I agree, Poppy is always scrutinized. How many times have you changed her outfit? Like the workout shirt, etc? Too loose, too tight, too young, too mature, too sexy, everyone has an opinion. It is awesome you have a healthy relationship with criticism. I am an EiC of a literary magazine and my design team can not take CC at all! And yes, True Beauty is spot on with the hair, make up, and fashion particularly in Korea! Keep on keeping on

Brianda Moon

I personally love the way she dresses 🙈❤. She's so layback and I love it! Shes starting off on her new career and new life in the city. Its hard. I know this is a cartoon but I moved from a small town to city life and man did I feel like I stood out. Give her time, besides Tora loves what he sees 😶

Tracy Chance

Yeah ngl Tora could choke me wearing absolutely anything. But then again...poppy could too 😍😍😍

Joselina

I was reading this just now, and I trully didnt find any problem with her outfit before, but like you said it's part of your job get some critics, tho i would keep it to myself if there is something that doesn't fit with my taste, I must say also you are an amazing artist! We wish ( i think i speak for a lot peopletoo) that you should have fun doing this as much as we do reading and admiring this hard work

Léa Boyer

I’ m so choked. I never saw any outfit out of characters nether for Tora or Poppy. But maybe it’s because I’m a french art Student (23y) and I don’t have any view or accurate opinion on this spécifique subject. I found you comics and drawings amazing Lily!! Thx for paying attention to the comments but don’t worry to just stick with your formal ideas, you’re a very capable artist !!

Léa Boyer

Ho and just to add : I definitely already wear this kind of tight black skirt and top to school, were I happened to be the black sheep (but still sexiest) this day 😂

kaielichi

Honestly heated that people would comment negatively about Poppy's outfits! She can wear whatever the f she wants! Don't listen to the haters Lily. I come here for the AMAZING storytelling and beautiful artwork, not for fashion. Also I'm sorry but did no one pick up on the fact that the clothes were hand me downs from Erdene??? Like obviously they wouldn't look exactly like something Poppy would wear because they weren't her clothes! Ugh ok that's my two cents. Love your work always ❤

Jenny L Robinson

I thought that outfit made sense, maybe it was sexy for business attire, but it then fit the story cause it was picked for her by her more adventurous and daring friend, so it makes sense! Also clothes that look conservative on slim figures can look much more sexy on curvaceous figures like Poppy.
