I loved that chapter so much, from passive aggressive protecrive Tora, to scared, anxious flashback Tora, to stoic Tora as he accept the hair tie and answer those difficult questions. I am glad they are addressing the matter of that picture. Will Poppy buy the fact that he took a pic of her because she was cute? I think she knows there's more going on. We know she can tell when someone is bullshitting her, or hiding the truth. Can't wait to read the continuation of the conversation. I am in love with her apartment complex. So the cigarette on the tongue thing...when I was little my mom drank Pepsi a lot and she smoked. Sometimes the Pepsi would get too warm and she’d just get a new Pepsi then use the warm can as an ashtray. When my sister and I thought mom wasn’t looking, we snuck a can off the end table. Needless to say, we chose the wrong one 🤢 Neither of us can drink Pepsi anymore because it tastes like ashes to us and that’s what I thought of when Tora put the cigarette out on his tongue.

And Poppy, sweet, beautiful, wonderful Poppy, that favor was so last-second it speaks volumes for how she feels about Tora - she has no thought out favors to ask him which I think shows how she doesn't expect anything from him/has no desire to rely on him (at least right now) - she's just genuinely happy to see him when he turns up, not inviting him up expecting something in return. I’m going to try posting on behalf of Emily because Patreon is being a butt to her! Time to dissect this more thoroughly than a frog in a high school anatomy class?? I think so! 1. First impressions keep coming up in this comic… and if we’ve learned anything at all from these characters, it’s that those first impressions are almost ALWAYS wrong. But ya know what? Sad as that reality is, it doesn’t mean a smart person can’t make use of that knowledge. Poppy uses the cute “girl next door”/little innocent angel act to fly under the radar and get away with murder, but Tora is just as much of a master at this. A little background digging on the guard mixed with an intimidating (yet heckin’ sexy AF) gesture feeds right into the expectation he knows is already set for him. The guard wants to swoop in and play the hero against a street thug? Sure. Tora’s happy to oblige and play that part, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to let it play out the way he wants. He uses that image to not only turn the tables and get the guard off his back, but issue him orders. Orders that somehow have me asking… was he doing it to benefit himself, or is he trying to scare the guard into keeping tighter security for Poppy’s sake? JFC I FREAKING HOPE SO. 2. Okay not an analysis… but.. check the papers?? What did Gyu do? Did they leak something? This is going to haunt me… 3. Okay, ya know what… I will admit, even though I KNOW better, even though I’m POSITIVE Tora would never hurt Poppy… THOSE PANNELS OF HIM STALKING CLOSER HAD ME PANICKED. Sure, I can feel the comic relief just out of sight. But that rustling in his hoodie? That creepy *just one step closer* imagery…and that FREAKING image of Tora looking like the little girl from The Ring? Now that’s just mean, Lily. The boys got enough of an image to battle without your help, thank you very much! 4. Back tracking a bit- but that PTSD flash back of him in the cell as he peers through the trellis? Heart. Broken. Please for the love of god don’t put Poppy in their shoes. She’s not leaving without you. Idk what’s going on in that brain, but she is not them. 5. I want that muffin. That is all. 6. Who owns the bake shop? I feel like there is a story there. Am I reading too much into this? 7. Part 1. Girls always have and extra hair tie. ALWAYS. So relatable. Part 2. I hope Tora and Poppy can go to the beach together!! Maybe they'll go after dropping off the painting? The strawberry hair tie is soo cute, I love that Tora used it without hesitation. So excited Tora said he thinks she's cute. I love that Poppy didn't get mad at him for shoving the cupcake in her mouth but instantly enjoyed it because, besides it tasting good, she trusts him and sees him for more than his external appearance that others may think is scary. Reminds me of my bf, who some describe as a turtle because he can look hard/scary on the outside, but is a super sweet softy on the inside. Tora probably knows the name and background of everyone who lives in Poppy’s building. Tora is a scary dude when he needs to be (as we know) but this was like *next level* scary intimidation. Can you imagine the Tora who might have to protect Poppy someday?? Shiver 🥶 What did Gyu find and does he mean check the newspapers tomorrow or some other papers, like something Balthuman group papers? Hmmmm so Tora giving Poppy some half-truths about taking the pic - he doesn’t want his girl to know she’s in danger, but he admits he saw her by the road and followed her in case she needed help. He’s realized that Poppy is too smart to not tell at least some of the truth. Pretty quick on his feet answering her questions. I love how she either doesn’t get the joke about the fudge biscuit or is legit trying to pretend she didn’t just yell that out 😂 Not only did we get no-nose Tora but no-nose Poppy too. So cute ❤️❤️❤️

I love the duality of Trevor and Tora. Trevor's got a side-piece he calls Cupcake that he's trying to keep hidden to save HIS own face, but is trying to act like a tough guy to show off to her. Meanwhile, Tora is a tough guy, who doesn't want to act intimidating in front of Poppy, who he keeps hidden to keep HER safe, and her brought her a cupcake. This isn't going to end well. I think it's from both of them. Tora: doesn't want to drag Poppy into his life, doesn't want to have her get hurt, doesn't want himself to be vulnerable, to her or at the risk if his own safety. Poppy: we haven't seen her have any real closure over her relationship with her ex. It was mentioned in the first episode that they were either high school or college sweethearts, so it was a long term relationship. The few times she's thought about it, she's blamed herself. Girl needs some time to get over that crappy guy. She's also aware that Tora is involved in something shady, she can see the good in him but may also keep him at an arm's length to try to stay safe.

I love all the connection points between Poppy & Tora during this episode 💜!!! He has definitely done his homework on who is around is sweetheart when he isn't watching. I thought it was extremely soft hearted and cute of him to bring her a cupcake 🥰. The strawberry hair tie is just priceless. Of course he is going to wear it Poppy. First it's from you, and second it's 🍓 his favorite. Tora soft point number two. Of course he is going to give you a ride... Your his sweetheart 😍. I love everyone's analysis and theories, but my comment is more in the appreciation department of Lily's storytelling. I'm so grateful to read a building up relationship based on actual communication and no that much drama, I mean Tora is obviously not saying the whole truth and Pops knows it, but I think is beyond that. It was clear that Tora has trust issues when Pops accepted she talked to the detective and Tora went full defensive mode, in a way she understands that it is difficult for him to open up and she's giving him a safe space to do it. But we also know Poppy is pretty clever, by now she won't be surprised to find out that Tora is a gangster (specially after the whole Mr. Lam's situation with Tora's coworkers) so she might be expecting for the truth to come up eventually and at a pace that would let her understand Tora's sketchy behaviour about everything, specially the photo. Let's remember she saw a bloody snicker and then Tora appears takes the photo, destiny strikes and bump into each other again and then go all banana's about her safety. I mean is putting one and one together, but what keeps this incredible storyline is the chemistry between them. They feel physically attracted to each other, but they also have this safe space when they're together, they both drop their acts and are really interested in each other feelings, but not just that, THEY CARE!!. And with this chapter we've learned they also are building the communication part, it's going to be a long road but they're going to get there so let them enjoy this first "let's settle the weird things, because I care for you and don't wanna harm you. I just want to be around you but in the nicest, healthiest and happiest way possible" P.S. My biggest curiosities in this episode: why does Tora know so much info about the security guard? What is Ronzo doing that’s gonna be in the papers? Did Tora warn the guard not to let anyone who smokes near the building?? Tora’s flashback, was adult Tora “talking to” his memory at the part where he says they already left without him? Why does Tora just shove the cupcake in her face? How long before someone notices that hair tie and Tora defends his strawberry? Is the cupcake part of his apology for the picture? Is she gonna accept the “cute” explanation or dig deeper? I’m wondering if she’ll sense his unease and let it go for a while or will she circle back to the incident before the train? Find out what he saw, if he saw the bloody shoe too?

So, I’m sitting here thinking of their dynamic with how Tora said she looked cute and then the ending with “this won’t end well.” Poppy’s expression seems worried and surprised, I don’t know how this will play out, but Tora mentioned getting out of her life asap and he didn’t. He came right back to her the next day. He found her as strength to break out of the gang world. Her being his light and him picturing his life Like a normal individual. He didn’t tell her the entire truth, but he did blush and fall down the stair at the train station when he realized he was attracted to her. (On a side note the photo might make him seem like a stalker.) Then I go back to thinking how Poppy told Jacob he wasn’t interested in her, and she also told Erdene that he probably was making fun of her looking like a pikachu. Maybe Tora proved her wrong in his admission of feelings. This isn’t the first time he’s called her cute, and previously she blushed at that. Gauging her past reactions of her shaking in fear that she might be in danger when he was evaluating her home and the security of it, I think he used logic here in not telling her everything. He doesn’t want her to live in fear of his fellow gang members and therefore him. He doesn’t want to lose her, and he’s treading carefully.

I love how Lilydusk makes everything important. At first, I wondered why there were so many shots of Tora just outside the building, smoking. After he talked to the guard, it seemed like he went there to test the guard and see what he would do, in case some other shady character showed up and and suspiciously waited around Bobby's apartment. This is the first time we've seen Tora intentionally hurt himself, right? Falling outside the train station, burning his finger, hitting his head on the pipe* were all accidental. When he's dealing with threats or perceived threats, he's been quick to attack others, (burning Scharch's eye, hitting Yadori with the pool stick, the guys in Goliath's hideout*) he's a man of action. Someone mentioned on last week's discussion that if he beat up with the security guard it could screw up his accessablity to Poppy, since it would either get him banned from her building-not like he'd stay away, or make Poppy aware of his violent side. The crazy thing to me is that when he reacted he had enough foresight to screw up the guard without laying a finger on him. *I guess I came with receipts 🤣

Then because this is probably first time Tora has been thanked, he hold the strawberry juice close to his heart and that's why he likes it so much, such is the strawberry symbolism in the eps. Ok new theory what if Poppy already knows about the notebook or has an idea that Tora wants the notebook from her? I think that's why she questioning him about why he took a picture in the 1st place and I don't think she believes him and shes hurt about it, because maybe she already knows the notebook. Maybe Tora never found the notebook in her job and that's why he is there to just finally confront her! And don't get me wrong I know sooner or later we were going to get to a point where a interaction/confrontation isnt going to end well, its going to need to happen, but ugh I dont know if I'm emotionally ready.😱😩 My emotions with this characters feels like a rollercoaster, currently I'm going up up up the edge all smitten with the chemistry between this two but at the same time thrill and afraid of the fall which is the truth and serious confrontation they will have regarding their relationship.

*long ass comment. No, I'm not sorry.*Can we take a moment and appreciate how incredibly realistic Lily tells this story? I know we wish to see Poppy and Tora together and in love, but honestly that is so far fetched at this point in the story. Firstly he has some serious healing to do and also does he even know „how to relationship”? I think he finds her intriguing, cute and comforting and is attracted to her body, but as for them love feelings I don’t think he is able to recognize them...yet. His gestures coming from clan life – the cigarette thing – if I would have witnessed him in real life I would be grossed and intimidated, but since this is Tora and we are all swooning over him, it is also kind of hot. This is mastery from Lily’s part, as she is able to mindfuck us with her art. Then the muffin, maybe we read too much into it. He bought it from a bakery from Ares street (not where Goliath worked though, that thing was a waffle house – yes I looked it up, obsessed I know), but who knows where Tora lives? Maybe he lives in the vicinity, maybe he goes there frequently... also his motive? I’m almost certain that he wanted to see Poppy and the muffin is him saying thank you for dinner or remembering the list of sweets she wanted at the grocery store and never got and more likely is a made up reason to pass by her house. His ulterior motives though we don’t know yet, because I am dead certain that he has some agenda as we still don’t know what happened with the notebook (he found it with Gyu? they spread some rumours about it being a fad and they sold the tip to the newspapers? Some more unravelling to be done here). The fact that he brings up the photo got all my radars up, I saw him struggling to appologize without even saying the word, but oh man he is in trouble now with them half-truths, cause our Pops is smart as fuck. Poppy grows familiar with him, the attraction is there, but I think she knows he wants something from her but we have yet to find out if she actually knows about the notebook or not. She is trying to coax more information from him, although friendly and casual. But make no mistake, she already suspects that he is in some deep dark shit and I think she does not want to get drawn into that. But being an empath as she is, also sees his gentle, fragile side. Do you really see her fierce and going deep into his world right now? I just think the enormity of it all would scare her and she would back out faster than you could say sweetheart. So maybe she will play along with his lies as she has some lies of her own, as she maybe does not want to know all. The same applied on the balcony scene as well, she brushed his words lightly, not wanting to go into the scary bits. I cannot deny I was screaming internally the whole length of the episode, of anticipation, anxiety with the guard, relief, sadness at the memories, cuteness overload at him with his hair down, than at the strawberry hair tie and choc muffin and then anxiety again as he brings up the photo... All of them feelings, why is my heart aching???

Another thought. I love how Poppy is just living her life and doing her thing. She’s not pining away for Tora or scheming for ways to see him. Unlike Candy, who has only whined and complained about Tora not coming to see her or asking when will she see him again. Her disgust when the other dudes said he was into guys is because she only wants the fantasy of Tora, so if he were gay, he can’t be her arm candy, thus she scorns him. (Or maybe she’ll think she can sway him, which is worse.) Tora has no interest in a woman who only sees the surface but is drawn to Poppy because he doesn’t feel the cling and pressure of someone who’s only out for le Greek god. (And let’s face it, le Greek god’s tongue!) Poppy is focusing on Poppy-goals and not trying to find meaning through a man and you know if someone told her Tora was gay, she’d just shrug and say “so?” He’ll still be a valued friend. Poppy knows that empirically, Tora is smoking hot and he’s even made her blush quite a few times, but I think her brain is still trying to convince her that he’s not her type. He can be himself and he’s realizing that she’s not seeing him as anyone but a person. She treats him with the same care and compassion and sass that she does everyone else. He’s seeing this well-rounded, smart, creative and talented woman who’s also gorgeous and for the first time he can just relax. This episode just got all my wheels turning. I have another theory! Ive been wondering for the last few episodes what happened to Toras intended break-in at Goldfish Publishing. It should have happened a few episodes ago, but we have not heard anything from it. Sooo.. what if they did break in and found the notebook? That could be what Ronzo is writing about. And now Toras kind of confessing about the photo could be a goodbye to Poppy, some kind of explanation to why they can't keep in contact anymore.. maaan i hope im wrong but its suspicious that we haven't heard anything about the break-in

I've been annoying my friends with trying to get them to read this series just so I'd have more people to gush with. :-P Then, I learned there are ENTIRE DISCUSSION THREADS about each episode with hundreds of other people. WHAT?? So... hi. I'm committed now. :-D This series is such a guilty pleasure for me - it has just the right amount of angst without feeling like the conflict is thrown in just for dragged-out drama (which I ended up really disliking about other series like True Beauty). It's so hard to find stories on Webtoon that aren't bogged down by exploiting reader emotions in a method that feels inorganic. MPL has just the right amount of gut-punch feels (TORA EYES ALONE, holy crap) and manga tropes (domestic dinner! boob squish!) but they fit seamlessly into the story, so the emotional expression flows perfectly with the plot. Summary: Lilydusk, you are a treasure and an amazingly talented storyteller. As for this episode, it was the first one where I ended it and felt that "OH NO" panic due to all the ways it could resolve, but I have a lot of faith in the storytelling. I love the juxtaposition between Tora using what he knows (intimidation) on the security guard, a glimpse of his tragic childhood trauma (which colors how he sees the world, in a way that a lot of those who suffer from PTSD will recognize), and the kindness he shows towards Poppy (instantly agreeing to give her a ride, bringing her a muffin). Something I also caught was his approach towards her as she was painting, could be a horror manga trope (girl alone with her back turned, dark figure approaches from behind, reaching into the pocket) with the rug-pull being it's just Tora looking unintentionally scary because he didn't put his hair up and stuffing a muffin in Poppy's mouth. XD I feel there are so many threads to this story outside of the developing romantic relationship - but they all tie back in to seeing how Tora and Poppy grow together and learn about each other. It's masterful, really. Lilydusk, my heart is in your hands. I'm all-in on this series, now. :-P

Okay, I guess I have to add my two cents or sense? The longer Poppy has that notebook the more the word and more people find out. She's all ready involved by picking it up! Even if she doesn't know what's in it! She's involved! Even if she gives it to Tora, people will find out she had it. Then she will be torture, rape, and murder for info. She goes to the cops, she still will be torture, rape, and murder because we know most are corrupt. Even if she goes to Lane, word will still spread. The only option she has is to stick with Tora. The only person who has protected her and could have if he wanted to, torture, raped, and murdered (sex trafficking if she was lucky). I mean, she touched the notebook, unfortunately she is involved. Clearly, the notebook wasn't at the office. And now Tora is going to have the talk about what's going on and that she's part of it now. That why this conversation isn't going to end well. "BTW, your wanted by every crime syndicate, politician, and law enforcement in the city!"

I'd like to add as a personal note (and this is going in the comments as more of an informal thing because I'd prefer not to interfere with y'alls reading experience) - regarding why Tora isn't saying anything to Poppy yet. I understand this question, and I know it's one many people have on their minds ♥️ One thing I'd like to say, is to try and understand how hard it can be for Tora (or hell, someone in his position irl, even) to tell Poppy this truth about himself, regardless of the reasons. Because she's gonna find out - as soon as he admits anything about his connection with a dodgy notebook, it's as good as solidifying her suspicion of him being in a criminal syndicate. This is literally him coming out of the closet to this sweet, sweet girl he's just met. And I can think of many closets that have taken people years to come out of, if ever at all. So I think it's understandable that he at least needs time to brace himself, if he ever does so. (I'm not saying anything 👀)

Tora giving Poppy food makes me so happy. Like, he was feeding her at Alice’s place. Putting pieces of food on her plate, encouraging her to eat. Gently taking on a caretaker role subconsciously. Now literally shoving a muffin in her mouth mid scream. Like a socially awkward gesture of affection done with the grace of a newborn baby giraffe. I sincerely hope this is a trope that keeps going. It cracks me up.

I adore this episode. There is so much to love, but what really struck me is that Tora brought Poppy the muffin. He knows she has a sweet tooth, so he brought her that small little gesture to make her happy. What’s more is that he understands that food is her way of expressing her love and care for someone—both her making a tiger with hair out of his dinner but also telling the story about her dad doing the same thing for her. I’m not if Lily has told us this anywhere, but I would swear that Poppy is a Taurus, and Tora is a Scorpio. She feeds people she loves, and loves to eat. He is a deep, sensitive soul who drinks people in before engaging with them too much. ♥️♥️♥️

So for me, what hit my nerve endings was Tora putting out that cigarette... probably because Ive done that (not in such an extreme, but I ate a lit cigarette that I was smoking in a defiance act) I just remember the burn and taste and anger I had when I did this as a big fudge you to a specific person and it really drove home for me the pain and anger inside Tora to do such an act for someone as an unknown guard... to add then the flashback... it really hit home the complexity of this character and how much its really costing him to expose a vulnerability. People with this much pain invest too quickly and Im glad the author realizes this with the phrase thats its not gonna end well... anyhow Im rambling but just in awe of this character build out... thank you author for making him truly real and relatable.

Thought that came reading conversation above. People generally think about Tora’s world as a world of mysterious world hotness and violence, and identify more with Poppy. I’ve always seen and understood Tora’s world as an authoritarian world of coercion and fear. I was raised in an authoritarian home (one uncle was an accountant for the mob but he was actually the nice mellow uncle) and I feel Tora’s position as delicate and fairly powerless. Fear is the currency that creates control. Tora is himself tightly controlled, he’s always on a tightrope with the bottomless dungeon just below. A very real threat alluded to previously in Ep. 5. When Tora burst into the boardroom all scary and whatnot, he was the one with heightened fear; it won’t be relieved until he can get out of the same room/building as Quincey’s dad. Tora can navigate affection with individuals within his closed ecosystem (Ronzo-benevolent controlled, Quincey-benevolent controller) but has trouble with interactions with people who are neither controlled not controlling. (Hi, Pops!) He’s extremely capable but panics when being thanked because he has zero experience with how to respond to gratitude for something freely given. So yes, boobs or no boobs he’s not going to blurt out his truths to any uncontrollable person without a LOT of watching first. She has to reveal herself through her actions over time before he would even think of going there. The unknown is NOT safe. He’s like the new kitten who hides under the couch for a long ass time checking you out. A very large hunk of gorgeous kitten. Anyhow, yes, I’m still dealing with trust issue decades after an authoritarian upbringing. It bites. I feel you, Tiger Man.

I like the version in my head and the one depicted but I feel like your execution of it was damn good. As I said, I was NOT expecting that. Also, can I just say that I love how he is with Poppy. I accidentally deleted half of my previous comment so here I go again >_> . I really love how the story flows so very naturally, following the character traits of our main characters. There are a few points I really want to make. I really like the slow burn of the romantic side of things. After a certain age, people rarely jump in commited relationship and passionate 'I love you's' right away, sometimes not even after being intimate. Life tends to get much more complicated after 20 - emotional baggage, past romantic failures, and 1000 other worries and things to think about. Sometimes emotional attachments are really inconvenient, especially in our particular story. People may fancy other people, but refrain from acting on it for various reasons. I love the fact that our dear author is very mindful of the circumstances of the two protagonists. I love the non-linear storytelling, I am aware it can be very difficult to make it work and I believe it is masterfully done in MPL. The way we find out about things by piecing them together is so neat and interesting :) I like how Tora isn't just confessing all of his past to Poppy, right away. It wouldn't seem genuine, no matter how you look at it. It's only natural to not trust someone you've barely met, no matter how nice they seem to be. At the same time, in deadly/secretive businesses, such as the mafia as well as military/secret services/police, people tend to keep secrets even from their families in order to protect them (unless it's family business with everyone involved of course; and even then). Sometimes you're only told what you need to know. Sometimes the less you know the better. The smartest of these people are very very mindful with what comes out of their mouths. Words can be a matter of life and death. Last but not least, Tora getting closer to Poppy could easily make her into a target, as a means to get to him. I am pretty sure someone as feared as him has a lot of enemies; people waiting for the right moment to strike. Tora knows he has little to no chance of escaping Balthuman's control and the overall life on the other side of the law. Under such circumstances, the less attachments you have, the less vulnerable you are. Back to today's episode, I loved the narrative solution Lily came up with for the confrontation there. Using intimidation as a means to avoid making more of a fuss or potential violence. Tora probably meant for his visit there to be a discreet one. He used a different car, wore a hoodie, etc. FYI, putting out a cig on your tongue is not as painful as it seems, it's kind of like putting out a candle after you lick your fingers :D. Coming from a neighborhood background, Tora likely picked that up from older boys as a teenager. However, he knew it would weird the poor guard out, thus making it easier to get rid of him fast. I wonder what that message to Ronzo was about and am still wondering if the did or did not find the notebook. TL;DR I love MPL, I tend to re-read it a lot and am looking forward to see where and especially how it goes further.

Tora is such a diversity of emotions. He's dangerous, intelligent and bold, and yet gentle with Poppy all the time. Completely non-judgmental with her. He has these totally polar opposite sides that make up his surprisingly stable personality. Such an interesting guy. I LOVE this story.

It's so difficult to watch Tora like Poppy so much, but have to circle around the truth because he doesn't want to draw her into his world. But I have a feeling she's more connected to it than it seems, and she might not realize it. We haven't seen her mom, and I keep thinking of the flashback with that white unmarked van and her dad's silly excuse that they couldn't be seen in the trees because tourists might try to climb them and fall. I feel like that was a cleaners' van, and dad knew something about bodies being hidden by city crime organizations in their quiet little remote town, and didn't want to get caught watching. We shall see...
