This episode made everyone so happy I'm sure. I loved when Poppy was talking about the painful feelings that wont go away even if you want them to and Toras flashbacks to when Vincent put him in that "cage" thing. And when Tora asked "who did this to you?" My heart melted. It's not like Tora intention is to go out and murder this person but hes simply asking so she can feel better. And instead of prying the answer out of her, he hugged her instead because of what she knows about her, physical touch does seem to make her feel better. (Perhaps Poppys love language?) And he totally let her go on and on like all girls do when we hold all our feelings in😂 it was so relatable and I loved that. Lily, I’ll be honest, I would wait two weeks for an episode because first read is ffwd, second is to understand what i just read on ffwd and third + is to observe little details like raindrops on the windowsill in sink with their mood, smiles, and eggplants on a plate, a towel strategically placed, to look for a bite mark etc I have no words/ comments today. My heart is full with the prospect of them being together 20-30 maybe even 50 years. This chapter was so perfect, thank you 💓 I love what a softie Tora is when it comes to Poppy and how sweet they are with each other 😭 And that bit where Poppy is pulling on Tora's strap and cuddling into his chest so perfectly captures how shy but also frustrated she's feeling. Obviously love the kisses, obviously!! But my favourite part was his explaining the cigarettes. ‘When ya whole world is falling to pieces, and everything is spinning out of control....’ and when Poppy suggests bubblegum, he takes his move to kiss her. I interpret that as he wants her to be his reward. His one predictable outcome that if he needs her she will be there. Very sweet. I also like the hug, he felt she needed it but still asked her if she was uncomfortable, just in case. Tora maybe considered a thug but he is ever the gentleman. Well done Lily!!!

Ok ok I'm still in cloud nine here!!!! Omg I'm so in love!!!! I can't put all the emotions together!!! Tora!!! My sweet, sweet boy! He's so emotionally mature it's unbelievable really. A man that suffers from nightmares, trauma and PTSD and still serves as emotional support for Poppy. It's amazing how he sees right through her, how he reads her. My baby girl, my ♥️. Trying as usual to push all that hurt in, that little tremble my god girl you're going to make me cry. 😂 The cheek pinching 🤣🤣🤣 it's so damn amusing to him, I think it's like me with cats, must pet, must squeeze, so darn cute! I mean who can be angry with him after he opened up like that? And he dared asked her at Regina's peek how she does it, show her emotions so easily? My boy you're doing the same thing and I'm proud. Even though Poppy's a sweetheart and a very social person she has a lot of hurt and anger. Loosing her father at a young age, mom leaving, being in a toxic relationship with dickhead Julri, makes me think she must be so lonely. Has she ever had someone she truly trusts that she can talk about her feelings and vent? All that build up will consume you and explode at the least indicated time. But oh boy if I'm glad we have adorable Tora here to guide her. "Just pick anything and start from there" As he's mentoring her he's also reflecting on himself hurt, hes helping himself by helping here. Isn't that amazing? He's diving into her darkness to rescue her and she's rescuing him indirectly. "Who did this to you?" 😭😭😭 He can feel her pain, he's an empathic. And the way he drags himself close to her, securing her and above all asking her if she feels comfortable. What a fucking gentleman. I can't 😭. Communication is not always easy, but when both parts are willing to accept and apologize it can be so rewarding and you feel like you can breathe again. Her apologizing and saying sorry for being a bitch to you too, lol Poppy been there, done that. But I'm proud of you for coming forward. I mean who wouldn't feel protected in that man's chest? I think Tora sees this and is willing to play along- cracking a joke at Quincey’s expense to ease Poppy’s tension. Honestly, where are these emotionally intelligent men in the world? 👏👏  I also found his dig interesting- “not a liar, but stretches the truth by a mile”? FINALLY, someone is allowing Poppy to be the one to lean instead of being leaned on. 🙌🙌 I’m seriously tearing up as I’m writing this. 😭😭  I cannot get over this whole conversation and how beautiful and gentle it is. 💜💜💜 If you EVER had a doubt about Tora’s true self- his sensitive, loving side, this should solidify it. This man is emotionally intelligent, he cares, he empathizes. 🙌🙌🙌 I will die on this hill, fight me, IDC. 👊👊 Goodness, it hurts my soul that Poppy is so afraid to open up 😭,  but I love that Tora sees this and knows that she needs to let it out. Her holding her feelings in, her HURT feelings in and she tries to mask them with saying “I’ll get over it soon….those painful feelings don’t seem to go away easily even if I wanted them to.” Tora resonated with those feelings, as his inner childhood self denies HIS FEELINGS (being scared, actually crying). He can feel the hurt brewing in her and knows she isn’t going to downright SAY IT without feeling safe to just say it. Here comes his beautiful ass self cradling her, reassuring her that she is free to say whatever she needs to get off her chest and that he isn’t going to invalidate her hurt/feelings. I’m sure Julri made her feel like shit if she brought up anything that was upsetting her and most likely turned it around on her, so it’s just easier to act like she is unbothered or overly sensitive. That’s a major difference between little dick Julri and KING ZADDY TORA. Tora cares about what poppy has to say and is VALIDATING her feelings. He says, “whatever you gotta say, just say it.” Then we see poppy questioning herself if he really isn’t gonna get mad/upset at her if she even brings up why she was so upset with him. I have no words to say how much I love this episode. Because I really enjoy the fact that they share an intimite relationship without being a couple. Tora’s explanation of why he smokes makes me rethink his emotional state in every scene where he is smoking. It makes me wonder if he felt very “out of control” in that current situation. From not knowing where Poppy is or how to help her to having to tap into that very violent side of himself (that I am assuming he dislikes and associates with Vincent’s control and influence in his life). Like Tora said, it’s his way of re-establishing some control of his situation. When you think about it, it’s really sad because he seems to feel out of control damn near all the time.

My thoughts on Poppy being the pillow: Julri made her feel ugly, fat, etc. I feel like she's going to immediately go to a defensive state and get mad that he finds her "fluffy" enough for a pillow instead of taking it as a way to get her to cuddle him. I think she'll probably stomp into his room and steal an actual pillow & throw it at him and leave.... Thus ruining our need for a cuddling panel. I don't think our Bobby is quite ready to be that intimately close with Tiger Boy yet.

Ok, so I’ve finally been able to put my feeling to words about the up close of the kiss panel. Lily’s ability to convey emotion through her art is just so so good. You can see so much in their faces. With poppy, you can see that she’s finally let her guard down. I think she’s a little scared of her feelings for him- maybe because she has trust issues, or maybe because she just got out of a bad relationship, or maybe because she’s never felt this way before and new feelings can be scary. Because of this, she’s been holding back ever since she kissed him (in the forms of shoving him down the stairs, not giving him a kiss on their “last night together”, when she was cold towards him at the restaurant, and even when she said “with your girlfriend, not me”). But here, after his words that basically confess he wants to kiss her for 50 years, she can’t resist any longer. You can see this in her relaxed face. With Tora, you can see he is enjoying himself but there’s an internal struggle. He’s still holding back. His eyebrows are furrowed and his eyes aren’t as relaxed. From the most recent Secret Garden post, we can tell he is OBVIOUSLY very turned on by her and he wants her. He’s fighting so hard not to get carried away and take things further. He lost a little bit of control when she gave her consent for the kids with the flu shot remark (I’m guessing he was planning just a peck with the tissue, not a full on make out session), and he’s trying not to loose all control. These kisses were letting off steam, before he completely boiled over.

I’ve been thinking about this chapter for a long time, despite probably having speedily read it about 50 times in girlish delight. I got so caught up in the intimate tenderness and comfort from Tora and the emotional breakdown from Poppy that I had to take a big step backwards and ask WHY did this chapter hit me so hard? I realized that these days we have so much “insta-love” from our romantic sources. It’s too easily acquired and someone really doesn’t have to put in much effort anymore to create a shallow world where people can come together and live happily ever after. With MPL, Lily can end the chapters on some super emotional cliffhangers that leave me glued to my Webtoons app on Friday evenings, refreshing the page over and over until I can shove my coins unto the unlock button and get my MPL “fix”. Because of the craftsmanship of each chapter to continue to make the world of MPL more intriguing instead of hopping from plot line to plot line, I can’t help but be swept up in the wave of emotional attachment that comes from such a good read. We’ve learned that Tora felt something for Poppy from the moment that he saw her untangling herself from the bushes but he didn’t swoop in at the first chance that he had to coax some kind of lustful reaction out of her like we’ve seen him do with other girls. With Tora, we get to witness the war he has to fight of wanting to be closer to Poppy yet make the effort to hold her away from him for her own safety. He comes from a world full of hardships and abuse and Poppy is the breath of fresh air that he has become addicted to. Poppy isn’t without her own shadows. Between the mystery of her missing mother and the loss of her father, she also fights her own personal battles. My heart breaks for both Poppy and Tora. I guess that’s why I want to put this story on a pedestal and shower it with all the stars in the sky.

I haven’t read through all the comments so not sure if it’s been mentioned already, but I love that Tora not only ensures Poppy’s consent when he puts his arm around her, but that he also gives her his implicit consent to touch him by putting her hand on his waist. So subtle, quiet, and refreshingly healthy behavior in a WEBTOON. I love we are not rushing, but following plausible plot and character development. Loved everything about this episode my dearest Lily-chan. I again tip my hat (and throw you all my money).

I cannot let go of this episode! The openess; the compassion and empathy; the poignant expressiveness! All those kisses!!! Ah!!! It was the falling tissue for me though. I said before that I felt Tora walking away from Poppy was the most selfless and loving thing he could do given the situation, but also incredibly difficult. He did the right thing once and for all and it sucked. He was pinning for her instantly lol but they say if you love something to let it go and if it comes back it's yours. She's back now... The white flag is the international sign of surrender. In the boxing world, it's a towel. In Midnight Poppy Land, it's a tossed tissue. Tora's done fighting what's happening between them. It's clear now his plan to keep her safe by "getting the hell outta her life" isn't going to work. While Quincey's life as an author is completely on the up and up, he is the son of a mob boss. Poppy is now basically WORKING for the mob. So what's the point in fighting his desire for her? He should just claim her. I think a shift is coming in Tora's behavior where he's going to be gently testing limits and pushing boundaries as he's "marking" her for lack of better terms... maybe "actively establishing his desire for her" is a better way to say it. The mission now is to let Bobby know, in no uncertain terms, that he wants her while taking into consideration her trauma and giving space for healing. Speaking of trauma....if this "pillow" ploy works idk why I have this strong sense of Tora having another nightmare while she's there and her comforting him through it. However it comes up, it's definitely his turn to be emotionally supported. They trade off. Final thought: I feel like Tora has either been to therapy or a correctional facility.

Anyway, others may have had similar thoughts, but the hands get me every time I re-read this chapter! Both Tora and Poppy's! When he moves in to hold her and moves her hand to his waist, you can see how his light touch is and almost feel the tenderness. You can also sense the tension releasing from her hand when it makes contact with his waist. It's such a loving gesture and I keep staring at those panels. It's amazing how they are drawn to convey those sensations. Love, love, love!!

First time commenter, long time lurker here! I might be reaching here (sorry in advance, Lily!), but I've been noticing the layout of Tora's apartment and drew some symbolism from it. The walls, the first thing you notice in the panels introducing his apartment, are concrete, much like the walls he puts up to the world. They're bare, utilitarian, and straightforward. These last two episodes are the first in which we're able to explore more of Tora's apartment; previously, all we'd seen were those sparse walls, barely-there window, and tiny glimpses into the man behind the concrete. Then, we were able to see that the floors are wood. Any time I've heard wooden floors described, it's always "these really add character." Again, I'm probably reaching as much as Elastigirl, but I feel like the choice of hardwood is a subtle nod to the character that Tora has, that we've all seen unfold throughout the series. Now, the kitchen. I find it poignant that this is where "the action" in the last few episodes happened. The only time we see Tora eat is with Poppy. We also see Poppy often use food as a way to convey affection and positivity. Idk about you guys, but food's a big deal for me, too--it can be a huge comfort but also a vulnerability. I appreciate that the only big window we've seen in Tora's apartment is in the kitchen--where he connects with Poppy, and where he has been connecting with her throughout the series (hello, adorable rice balls and strawberry hair tie😍). The light is let in here, where Poppy and Tora have deep conversations, both get vulnerable, have... *Ahem* hard... talks (heh), and share a little makeout sesh. Even the floor on the kitchen, with it's intricacies, just seems, to me, to show increased depth. The further we move into his living space, the more we see the beauty even in the concrete. Lily, you're a master at your craft 🖤💜

Just for clarification on the timeline, Quincey texts Poppy that he will visit the publishing office around noon, then Poppy comes to Tora's place at 4pm based on when he wakes up and looks at his phone. So her visit doesn't happen before Quincey goes to see her at work, but after. So his comment about her being worried about a sPeCiAl someone is probably what sparks his idea to get her to visit Tora at his place. Did I get that right? I've seen some confusion around this.

This chapter was absolutely beautiful, and I keep finding myself even more blown away by your mastery of character development as I go through and reread these chapters. Maybe it was obvious to others and I was just slow to pick up on it, but I realized in this chapter that Tora, with all his appearances of being big and strong and tough, is always scared, and Poppy, who is sunshine and rainbows on the surface, is always holding down alot of anger. I assume based on the moment in the kitchen when Tora recalls his childhood memory of saying, "I'm not scared, I'm not crying," and then asking Poppy who made her so unable to show her emotions is because he was literally forced through being routinely broken to appear fearless. The "breaking down" he experienced was probably designed to make him basically a monster, and at some point he realized he had to bury all his fears if he was going to survive. But looking back, you can see signs that he lives with it all the time. Keeping guns by the door, installing security devices everywhere, avoiding open windows, genuinely being afraid that Poppy will get hurt (whether it be by his job or from slipping off a cliff our boy is constantly worried about her). When Tora says to Poppy awhile back that he has lived with rage for a long time, it's one emotion that he was able and probably encouraged to express openly. It is interesting to think that she is kind of his opposite. As we have seen, Poppy has trouble expressing her anger and often buries it down, but you gotta admit, she is also pretty fearless. Despite Tora being twice her size she had no issue toeing up to him in the restaurant. She also had infinite moments of bravery that went into her pushing to get Mr. Lams business for her company. She even moved all alone into a huge city with no clue what she was in for, just excited to start a new job. It is really lovely to watch them both help each other get over their hold-ups, Tora letting Poppy be angry and know that it is alright to tell people when she has been hurt, and in turn he is opening up and getting closer to her in a way that I think he has genuinely been afraid to do with others in the past. I loved his moment of realization in this chapter that Poppy isn't only allowing him to get closer but actually wanting him to. He offered the barrier of the tissue between them, and that blush and smile on his face when she admitted she'd prefer he kiss her properly... so perfect! The last paper thin wall of protection he had up and now it's just completely down (get ready to be his pillow, Poppy-girl!). I just love all of it! Thank you, as always, for giving us such a rich, beautiful story to look forward to every week!
