I wasn't sure how I was going to like Tora as a child. Tora as a teenager was kind of an ass, but as we learn more of his childhood the more we get to know him as not an animal but as a survivor. Poppy is finally learning how to have a non-toxic relationship with a man. I can't wait to see them on the beach together. I think there was a total foreshadowing of him having to pick between Poppy and the gang. We all know that he loves Poppy. I can't wait to see what happens when he figures out that he loves her. Poppy already likes him but is broken from her asshole ex that she can't believe someone can actually care about her in a healthy way.

Woah. So this was really sad to watch *I mean read lol. But oddly enough an OLD song called Make it With You by Bread played while I read and it made it bearable. It was right on time, this is a terrible memory but Poppy is almost washing the hard memory away. 😥 I think getting past all those bad feelings is a great step for them and they'll help each other through everything.

It was a beautiful chapter Lily. 🥰 The way you brought up his past as a dream with Poppy was perfect to show is past but at a distance, if you get what I mean. ❤ Also the fact that the first thing he said to her as he woke up was if she wanted to go to the beach. He knows his past and has worked through it and can still see and wants beautiful things. And Poppy finally saying Fuck You Julri, was the cherry on top. And the cherry on top of the cherry... You go Poppy!! Yes, it was bullshit!! I've been in a relationship like that and it took me being with someone I'd never have seen myself with to realize what a real, healthy relationship was. Despite his flaws and the whole mafia thing, Tora is surprisingly in touch with his emotions, or more so the emotions of others. When he asked her who did this to you in the last ep I nearly started crying. I think together they can both start to heal from their past traumas and lead happy lives.

But when I was younger I was awkward like that so I get it. I'm glad she is organizing her negative thought about how Julri treated her. Well I'm going to go and read it again. What’s happening with her hair pin?!?!!? Poor baby Tora, and the Balthumans preying on and collecting children from the street how awful!!!! What happened to his parents?? Also this looks like it’s related to the flashback in Ep 5 when Vincent locked Tora in the sewer(?) before he went to the beach. Oh my heart. His sense of fairness and right & wrong at such a young age makes it even more heartbreaking to me. Also...Tora looks great in green. Does he have a thing for dinosaurs? The sea shells broke me. “What if that’s not enough for me?” Oh my gosssssh. Also, I love the combination of baby-Tora and adult-Tora in his dream. I love wide-eyed grown up Tora. It’s so beautifully done. I have no idea how Poppy can resist upside-down Tora. She’s so strong, I would be a puddle on the floor. Thank you Lily, this was so needed and I squealed the whole time.

My heart....my poor heart. I love this story so much. Because of the subject matter, I went in thinking: carefree girl teaches scary, emotionally unavailable mob man how to love. Which, I would have read that story, let’s be real. But this is so beyond, so next level. The parallels of their two vastly different traumas, and what those traumas taught them to believe about what they deserve is just a beautiful story. It’s such an equal give and take, growing together. It’s so emotion-driven and I feel like I’m babbling but I just can’t words right now because I loved it. I also loved that he had a baby dino shirt as a kid, but he was wearing a manly dino shirt out at dinner 😂 Looks like Poppy isn’t the only one who embraces her inner child.

Ugh the “but what if that’s not enough for me” said so much. Tora will never be happy just keeping Poppy “in his heart” but right now he feels like he’s facing an impossible choice. He’s scared to go all the way with Poppy but knows that’s what he truly wants. At the same time, he can’t yet see a way of doing that and getting out of/protecting her from the clan. I just hope everything works out for these two precious humans. Also yass Poppy it absolutely is fucking bullshit. Also, Benjamin has another thing coming for him...so does Julri for that matter. Also, I want to give baby Tora a hug so bad, make him some nice warm comfort food, and protect him from those vile men.

Before I dive into any analysis, I just want to say thank you Lily for this episode. It was so wholesome despite the heartbreaking moments of Tora’s past. The episode was long which I really appreciate, and the backgrounds were absolutely stunning. You are amazing, never forget it. My take on this episode (specifically the beach scene with Tora and Poppy): After Poppy shows Tora the seashells which he was hoping to find he looks away and says he’s not allowed to talk to strangers. If you translate this to Tora’s life at the moment, he’s not allowed to have contact with anyone outside the Mafia because being associated with him means they will end up hurt or worse, so he shies away from taking the seashells because he feels like he’s doing something wrong. Then Poppy gets sad and this part is so adorable because baby Tora is trying to comfort poppy telling her not to cry which just says how emotionally in tune he is even as a child and he just doesn’t want people to hurt 🥺. I also find it interesting that he still uses slang/gang language here. He says, “Dont ya start cryin’ again -“. Previously, I thought that he used slang only around the gang but actually thinks in full coherent sentences, but this makes me wonder if he either learned to talk this way from gang members around him and because he was so young he just absorbed it or that’s just how he naturally talks because of the region he’s from. We move on and Poppy tells Tora she she’ll just leave the seashells for him and then she’ll go. And for a brief moment we see Tora look back at Vincent’s beach house and then look back at Poppy and it’s almost as if he’s deciding between his two homes. Vincent: who is supposed to be his caretaker and provide for him emotionally, financially, etc. and he’s not as we can see he is in dirty clothes, hungry, sad, and being forced into a situation he was never even a part of. And Poppy: a very kind, gentle, almost motherly figure who wants to give something to Tora and yet doesn’t force him in any way. Tora gets worried that the seashells will get washed away which tells me that he’s scared he might forget Poppy. Not in a literal sense, but he might forget what she represents to him: innocence, happiness, etc. To this, Poppy responds saying “they won’t be if you keep them in your heart”. This is something Tora has had to do before. He takes souvenirs from people he cares about as a way to remember them and what they stand for like Poppy’s hair tie and Joe’s bracelet and ring but he never gets to actually stay with them. This is why the next line is heart wrenching: “what if that’s not enough for me?” I think Tora is starting to realize that he wants more from his life and that means leaving the mafia and being with Poppy (on the balcony in episode 29 he also says that the more time he spends with Poppy the more he wonders if someone like him could lead another life). Poppy then says he has to choose which implies that if he does truly want more he’ll have to choose between staying where he is now or trying his best to leave his current situation and have a shot at being with her. Adult tora comes into frame which I assume symbolizes these feelings carrying on into his adulthood and his face just brought me to tears I don’t think we’ve ever seen adult Tora look so distressed as he does in this moment when he realizes he might loose Poppy. I looked up the symbolism of the color yellow (as it relates to poppy’s dress) and yellow of course symbolizes happiness and joy, but something I forgot is that it can also symbolize caution, and that might mean that although Tora might want Poppy he will still have to be careful as the situation he’s in is extremely fragile and always changing. That’s all I have, I know it’s a long comment but this episode was a lot and I love every bit of it. 💕💕Also Martin can go to hell 🤬😭

Thank you for a wonderful episode Lily!! There were so many emotions in this episode! Nicely done balancing fluff and angst! It flowed naturally and highlighted both Poppy's and Tora's growth. Poppy seems to have freed herself from all of Julri's BS emotional manipulation and thanks to Tora, has learnt how to deal with her emotions properly. And I love how child-like she is with the "kissu" comment and splashing into a puddle! So cute! Also, she swore!! OMG!! Can you imagine if Tora had heard that? He'd fall for her all over again hahaha The beach scene definitely captured Tora's inner turmoil, he wants to go to Poppy but he can't (atleast not yet). Maybe that's why he asked her to go to the beach once he woke up? I think he wants to push himself forward towards Poppy and keep those seashells in his heart. I'm pretty tough skinned and can usually handle some angst, but I lost it the moment baby Tora transformed to adult Tora. The expression on his face conveyed so many things for me. We've seen Tora's inner conflict through his monologues all series but I feel like this one panel expressed it so clearly. Finally, Poppy's hairpin! I'm a little confused about the last couple panels (was that kid Benjamin? when exactly did Poppy lose it?) I'm sure we'll find out more soon. I wonder if it'll lead to Poppy's Ares St adventures part 2, but this time accompanied with Tora lol

Okay so…. Yeah… F*ck. Normally I can do this methodically and number it out but I’ll be honest. I’m pretty f*cked up and this is going to be all over the place. Also, I’m talking as if I know what I’m saying… this is all one giant guess and I might be making shit up. IDK. I’m emotional okay? Humor me. First off, you KNOW I googled the meaning behind sea shells. And if you don’t like profanity stop reading now because I’M F*CKING LOSING MY GODDAMN MIND: “In Feng Shui, seashells represent a comfortable home and a feeling of contentment.” Are you crying yet? Because I sure as f*ck am! We are going to dive into this now: 1. “You were hoping to find some at the beach, weren’t you?” KILL ME RIGHT NOW. PLEASE. FOR THE LOVE OF TORA. That little boy hopped into the truck that was headed to the beach. He got out of his cell, and the FIRST thing he did was follow after the man who put him in here. And I can’t even blame him. Because he’s being taught that this life is better than the one he had at the orphanage. We see Vincent’s father like demeanor as repulsive because we know what he is. A gaslighting son of a bitch just like Martin (WHO EXCUSE ME why is he still hot? F*cking hell I need therapy).. but I digress. We see how manipulative Vincent is. Now look at it through the lens of a little boy who just wants to be loved? He wants a home, he wants contentment and security. And now Poppy if offering that. She is the safe harbor that that beach never was for him. 2. If Poppy is if offering a home and love, then she is CERTAINLY a stranger to him. My first instinct was to laugh at this scene and his cute little puffy face. But now I’m heartbroken. And when she starts crying, instead of being upset, Poppy set them down for Tora WHEN HE’S READY TO ACCEPT THEM. Sorry I’m yelling. This is just so good and heart wrenching. Tora looks back as if unsure of whether his place is with Vincent or with her, and his first thought is pretty much, “I’m not ready yet, but that security and love will be gone if I don’t take it now.” The sea will wash it away. That “swish” of the sea keeps threating to ruin it all. But he seems to realize Poppy’s offer doesn’t come with stings. And it’s not fragile. If he holds on to the fact Poppy accepts him and cares for him, that feeling of home doesn’t need to go away. Even if she’s not with him (Seriously y’all need to listen to The City Holds My Heart by Ghostly Kisses… this hits me so hard with this theme). But Tora isn’t sure this is enough for him. Can he be okay just knowing someone out there cares? Or does he need more from her? He has to choose between Vincent or her. 3. And for a second he does. He chooses her. But then Martin slithers in and pulls him right back into his childhood fears. His learned behavior. 4. But then he wakes up and the first thing he says is “Do you want to go to the beach some day?” Please for the love of God, replace those memories. Start new ones with her. CHOOSE to pick up those shells, to shrug off the chains that were placed on you at so young an age and find contentment and a home filled with love for you, where you can express your own love back, and be cherished for it, not disregarded. And when we get out of the dream, we see Poppy’s point of view, which is not far off from Tora’s. In this one day, they both have come to realize that they are worthy of happiness and acceptance. They are awakening in each other a realization that they deserve more than what others taught them to expect. Be it an abusive childhood, or emotionally unavailable adults/significant others. They deserve validation. And Poppy’s little hop into the puddle? ADORABLE. She remembers that panty incinerating kiss, and feels heard, and became a little kid again too. But her regression was a moment of lightheartedness, where as Tora’s was shrouded in painful memories. (Also BABE. F*CKING HATE that term of endearment- sorry, I know a lot of people use it but I’ve always had bad experiences with it, although I have seen some good uses of it). And so the rain cleansed them. They turned a page here. I’m not sure where it will lead, but the light is peeking out from behind the clouds, and both Tora and Poppy can see past the haze now. I know there will be other storms to come, but this was one hurdle they cleared, and I’m going to let myself feel the warm fuzzies for now.

Wait. So they casually pick kids up off the street? So Scharch might be one as well, but maybe snapped when Tora has otherwise held out? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but although Tora helped track down Mr. Lam, he never expressed direct hate towards Scharch. Instead, he seems to understand the thought process, and deliberately avoids crossing paths with him. With Scharch as an underling to Martin, I would think Martin "successfully" trained Scharch to fall in line with his carrot and stick scheme. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Tora sympathized heavily with Scharch, even seeing him as a facsimile of what he would become if he bent to his circumstances.

I just wanna grab baby Tora and steal him away 😢 he ran away from one bad situation only to get dragged into Vincent’s claws. Was this what happened after the scene we see Tora in the cage/sewer since he’s wearing the same shirt? Vincent said Tora knew what would happen if he escaped again. Was this leading up to that “what would happen” that Vincent mentioned or did that time already occur and Tora escaped anyway to go to the beach anyway? I love that Poppy saw the hair tie but I’m kinda bummed she thinks Quincey put the strawberry in Tora’s hair like she thought it was a practical joke. I wish she’d realized the significance of the fact that he still had it rather than buying normal one and get rid of it. Tora seemed a little shocked that he fell asleep for a few minutes. It shows how comfortable and relaxed he is with her around. Plus her playing with his hair. Such a cute moment! “Extreme close up” 😂 yes please! He looks so genuine and vulnerable and poor Poopy went into panic mode. 🤕 I’m glad Poppy is seeing Julri’s bullshit for what it was. I’ve been at that point where you aren’t sure you can trust your gut anymore and everything gets twisted to make you feel like you’re over-reacting. It was a relief to finally get back out of that mindset. Benjamin! You little brat, give that hair pin back to Poppy! I’m betting he’s gonna go see whoever he’s selling that pin to though and I’m really curious who it is. I have this sinking feeling that it’ll be Yadori or maybe that Shane guy we heard about. I think the seashells are meant to represent Poppy, he doesn’t feel safe enough to go near her and meet those feelings for her or be with her and she says that it would be enough to keep them (seashells meaning her) in his heart, and literally yells that it might not be enough for him!!!! Well there certainly is a lot of lap action in these last two episodes - love it. So the swish sound is the waves? Yes to all the different waters in this episode. Also love her yellow dress and ideal dream self - so glowy and angelic. Love his longing for the beach and longing for her merging in dream, also the seashells - his hopes in her hands? - he’s making his choice. Hate to see him so tiny, vulnerable and neglected in the lion’s den. And do you have to drop him on his head when he asks you out, Pops? Please go. The rendering of baby boy Tora in color is incredible. I can only imagine how much work it took.... His baby eyes pierce my heart! Benjamin’s covered eyes on the other hand... So sketchy! —- But somewhat symbolic? Teen/Young adult hiding behind his hair, covering his emotions and his eyes (after all, the latter are “the windows to the soul.”) Do you think that (1) he’s had the pin all this time, (2) saw Poppy (who forgot her umbrella at the cash register b/c she was counting coins) and (3) the cashier reminds him of Poppy and, by extension her pin? Could thinking of Poppy also be reminding him of his sister’s precarious position with respect to the club/clan and of their overall messed-up economic situation? Could he have been thinking of giving it back to her and then lost his nerve? Then, he’s like “Screw that - I/we need the money” In Ep 23, he yelled “Hey. Let go of my sister you assholes” but it didn’t seem like anyone was holding onto any women in that frame. In an earlier frame it looked like Scharch had his back to one of the girls but when B yells, that woman’s hand is on Scharch’s shoulder... In the Discover/Canvas MPL version, I thought B was going to the club to collect money that was owed his sister. In this featured version, he’s yelling like they are “holding” his sister who might not be there? Is she out of frame or they actually “holding her” - like she owes them a lot of money and has to “work” to pay for her debt? Or is this version different? Even though he mentioned her, maybe his sister is not really significant in this version of MPL? What is the “suicide mission” that Tora described B being on? Was it personal or something else? Thoughts?

Yup. Tora is going to have to choose! I'm guessing he will be pushed so far he will have to choose the clan or Poppy... I think this boy already wants to leave even if he doesn't even realize it yet. He said the shells weren't enough; just pieces of the beach, not the whole beach, and the experience, and a life that comes with being able to enjoy it. I think Poppy will make him whole and then he will need to be more of a Tiger than he has ever been before in his life.

Alright, so I’m typing this before I read anyone else’s theories so I don’t get mine all turned around haha. 1) the decision Tora is trapped between: going to the Balthuman’s and being their ‘pet’ like he currently is, and going to be happy with Poppy. 2) The seashells Poppy offers him I’m guessing represent all the good things she could give him: love, compassion, understanding, a ‘normal life’ 3) When Tora says he can’t talk to strangers, won’t come get the seashells, he’s afraid of that ‘normal life.’ Or that he doesn’t wanna ruin Poppy’s life. 4) I’m guessing the beach is obviously very symbolic to him (duh), but in a good way or bad? He’s scared of the water washing away the shells (bad sign? #5) but he also asks Poppy to go to the beach with him. Once he’s taken to the Balthuman’s, are they gonna treat him nice and feed him, making it a happy memory? 5) The fact that the water DIDNT wash away the shells (aka good things) it means their relationship will weather through whatever the water represents (Gang/Balthuman’s/hard life). 6) Poppy told him he can get them whenever he FEELS SAFE. I think this is big for Tora, cause he never seems to feel safe. With moving all the time/possibly rival gang retaliation/Balthuman Sr. hurting him. So the fact that Poppy is letting him decide what he wants it very important. 7) ‘Keep them in your heart’ ‘That’s not good enough for me’ could mean lots. But, how I’m taking it is Tora does want that life with Poppy. He wants to be a loving couple, but he also knows poppy won’t wanna be around all the gang violence. And therefor, Tora will have to chose between Balthuman and Poppy. Sorry if these are everyone else’s overall theories. Thank you so much Lily for another beautiful episode 💕 my fondness of these characters grow with every chapter.

All the symbolism and foreshadowing of what’s to come later on between tora and him ultimately having to choose between continuing his life in the mafia with Vincent or getting free of that world/life and starting a new one with poppy and all the what if’s and conflicting emotions that comes with it. Can’t wait to see how this story unfolds. It’s gonna be a for sure rollercoaster. Also sort of theory I’ve been harboring for a while and wanted to get some opinions. What if when Vincent finds out later on I’m the story about tora and poppy instead of him threatening tora with poppy life he threatens poppy with toras and basically runs her outta town with the promise of killing tora if she doesn’t leave him so he can stay loyal to Vincent only... 💭

And more importantly, he is gentle, generous, and respectful to Poppy. 💕🍓 In other words, he managed to rise above the hardship and keep his humanity intact. Of course, he may not think so, insisting that he remains in the darkness because of his affiliation. But his interaction with Poppy in EP 47 and 48 is a game-changer. His dream girl ❤️ asked him to make a choice: be contented with the memory of the seashells in his heart, or keep them from getting washed away by the tide. Methinks from hereon, our tiger is done avoiding the little hamster. Yes, Tora, don't be afraid of the light. 💪🏼😤🍓 "I'll email you!" I do love a flustered hamster. ❤️ I can't blame her, though. If I found myself face to face with a greek god (and made out with him like moments earlier), I would panic. 😳😳😳 Like Tora, it seems to me our Bobby also made a strong choice. 🙌🏼 She is finally free from all the BS her ex imposed on her 😤 and on the road to reclaim what she lost and embrace life's possibilities. Poppy in yellow drenched in sunlight, representing everything Tora sees when he sees her. So perfect. Also love the use of physical space in this episode. Tora has always been made an outsider by Vincent, via a carefully constructed prison using basic needs as a way of forcing loyalty and compliance. Vincent’s “dog” by his own admission. Tora grew up watching his “family” from a distance so the scene of him looking toward a bungalow with no people in frame fit perfectly. Of course then enters his Bobby. She lives her life with compassion and an open heart. Her extended hand, offering up the thing he desires most (again with the consent! Ugh, perfection), is such a lovely dichotomy to frame this upcoming choice...though, let’s be honest, last week’s white flag of surrender makes me feel young Tora’s uncertainty is more about learned behavior and conditioning by his handlers. His asking Poppy to go to the beach signaled to me that his choice is her. As we dive deeper into Tora’s childhood, I am really looking forward to seeing how our beloved Quincess won the heart and trust of our little Tiger Boi. So far all childhood and adolescent references Tora makes about Quincey are negative, so the blossoming of their bromance is something I can’t wait to see. Another masterpiece dear Lily, given through deft strokes and carefully placed allegory. You are a BOSS. Thank you.

Since he had said he wasn’t coming around anymore after Regina’s peak, she said I will just sit them( her feelings for Tora =seashells) here until you feel safe. Him saying that the tide may wash them away would be her moving on to someone else. Tora saying what if that’s not good enough, him staying away, he may have to choose, to keep her in his life and risk her being in danger or just deal with it and know he can’t live without her. I am sure that this has been pointed out but Lilydust has done an incredible job on the shoes there are the 3 panels where he transforms/grows into the shoes and Tora also fits into his pants but how quickly he changes back to a child when brought back in to the clan. I also feel that Lilydust has highlighted shoes a number of times like in episode 5 when he had nice new shoes but when they get the blood on them, I felt that this showed he was not allowed nice new things. Which could harp back to times like this in his childhood.

Tora is in a pickle. Prior to Poppy he heart was hardened. To commit violent acts a good person would have to remove himself emotionally from the act. He could do that then because he had nothing to live for. But he has deep feelings for Poppy. Maybe love. I think he loves her but he doe not totally trust yet. He knows she could leave him. I think she is “the shells” and he fears she will leave. As he fears the wave will take them away. Tora has deep seeded anxiety and fear. We saw that before when he was violent early on in the comic. Someone said the yellow dress represents sunshine. I like that. However the color yellow also makes people anxious. In the States Resturant’s paint walls yellow so the customers do not linger long after they eat. They want people to leave so they can have more customers. Studies have shown people don’t want to stay long when there is yellow paint. But as I was saying, Tora had a hard loveless heart. But know that Poppy is around his heart is vulnerable. He cannot continue to beat and kill people with Poppy in his life. She will make him a bad hit man. It why he didn’t kill those guys when he had the chance. If he chooses Poppy he has to leave. Not just to keep her safe but he won’t be emotionally able to do the job. For awhile I thought Poppy could join the mafia with him because some imply her mom might be in the mafia. But now I think both Poppy and Tora have a conscious and they would love so hard that they couldn’t take all the hate and violence. 😊

I’m wondering if their son or daughter will look as adorable as Tora did when he was a lil man. I absolutely loved this chapter. I love that Tora knew what Poppy meant with the sea shells and I love that they didn’t wash away when the tide came. I think his dreams opened up a little more questions. So Vincent didn’t actually picked him up, but Tora ran away from that adoption place. My heart hurts for Tora as he had to endure any type of abuse. I really really hope and beg that Toppy gets a chance to go to the beach and enjoy a day together. I think that was Tora asking her out on a date. What I’m confused about though is why did she shove him off and told him to email her. Tora is sick, any physical harm can cause it further, thank you Lily!

I had some thoughts how Vincent got custody and it turns out I might be right. In previous episodes he spoke about picking him out of the bunch and immediately I thought about group homes. I hate to say it but their are people out there who has custody of a children due only for their benefits; money, control, power, (harsh reality) sex trafficking, drug trafficking, etc. it hurts my heart because these kids are vulnerable and they take advantage of them. I think Tora is getting a chance to finally choose what’s best for him. He didn’t have a choice in family or anything else in his life but little by little with poppy presence of love, kindness, and warmth he can. I’m so happy Poppy is getting to see her worth. She is gorgeous in and out and anybody would be crazy aka her stupid ass exboyfriend , (sorry guys went off a little) to not show her off and appreciate every part of her.

I have so much to say about this episode, because there's so much symbolism here! As someone well-versed in occult/spiritual/mystical things, there's so much to chew on when it comes to the seashells. Am I reading too much into it? Maybe, but also maybe not. First off, Poppy was wearing yellow, which is the color of optimism and happiness. Which... in that dream, and in life, is very fitting. It's also the color of whimsy and spontaneity. Then... seashells are a sign of growth or loss. When something dies or outgrows its shell, the shell is discarded into the depths and eventually washes up on the shore. It means that someone has had to move on, due to growth or death. In a way, Joe's bracelet and ring are like seashells to Tora... things that are just memories, and special only to those who believe they have meaning-- objects that are just memories. And there's always a fear that they'll wash away and be lost forever... just like those who leave us for the afterlife, or outgrow their place in our lives. Without their tangible presence or the memories of them, they just fade and disappear into the depths forever. When it comes to the number of shells, I agree with the idea of the tarot there. There's some symbolism with the sixth card of the tarot, as it's the lovers card. And my mind keeps going back to Ulaan... Lastly, I have thought for MONTHS that this feels like a symbolic battle between felines and canines. It seems silly to say it's "cat vs dog", but really... I feel like there is symbolism in the lineage here. Tora comes from ancestors with possible supernatural alliances with wolves/dogs/the Okuri Inu. The Balthumans... they feel very cat-like to me. Distinguished, calculating, self-preserving... they "knock people off" and don't even feel bad about it, like a cup. There's a lot about Vincent that, in particular, reminds me of a feline-- any moment, they can flip the switch. One minute, they are loving-- but the next, they've drawn blood. And I've always wondered if Tora was a nickname given to our favorite guy, to give him some identity that belongs to family of cats-- a false family, where he doesn't belong. Since he is of wolf lineage... he is their natural enemy/opposite. So, SO much to chew on with this episode... I'll be thinking of this on a deeper level for weeks.

Loved Tora’s arc and that he was able to sleep and have something other than nightmares. Loved that she realized Julri was plain wrong and she wasn’t going to accept that excuse. Hated the fact that her hairpin in being pawned and that would expose Poppy to more risk that she is. However, one saving grace might be that it’s out in the open that she is the editor to TBO heir!

I'm not going to touch on the dream sequence because so many others have. And all of them brilliant, my favorite was the one Luigi wrote of you want to check it out above. When Poppy is remembering all of Julri's lame apologies they are all, "I'm sorry, BUT..." If someone apologizes like this, run. It's not an apology, it's them trying to make excuses for their bad behavior instead of owning it. So, I love Poppy's retort of I'm sorry but that's fucking bullshit! She was able to speak aloud that sorry, not sorry Julri's been giving her so she can finally move on. And it's immediate, we haven't seen Poppy this carefree and childlike the whole series. She's always worried about how others really perceive her, and just spending that time with Tora has done wonders for her self esteem, he wanted to give her a genuine apology, he wanted her to let him know exactly how he hurt her, and accepted her hurt and then the guy still wanted her. Not just physically, but he's also asking her to go to the beach at some undetermined point in the future. No wonder she panicked and bailed.

So I wasn’t expecting to feel so emotionally raw from this episode, but it’s been like 5 hours and I’m still sitting here just trying to wrap my mind around some of the obvious symbolism and stuff, but also to digest the very real pain Little Tora experienced as a child. That Little Tora was not cared for even at a orphanage, that he clearly wasn’t even cared for enough to be fed under Vincent, and that he was scared for a long time. That he didn’t “belong.” All of that really got me. The panels of Little Tora turning in Adult Tora got me. The pain, vulnerability and confusion of the child still showing in the eyes of the man...... And I’m so angry, because honestly, I didn’t think it was possible to hate Vincent anymore than I already did, but here I am, feeling shaky and really hoping Vincent AND Martin get fed into a wood chipper feet first some day.... I really really wish Poppy would have just said “yes” to a beach day with Tora. I think it would be healing for him and affirming for her. Just curious.....Poppy seems to react.....strongly to intensity and romantic vulnerability. Is it just because she’s never actually had it and she doesn’t know what she’s feeling? Or she does and she’s flustered? It’s hard for me to pin down exactly which it is. Also, super unrelated to this episode, but mostly just a deep curiosity of my own. I suspect that Tora’s hoodie he threw at her on the train is in Poppy’s laundry hamper. Any chance she will wear it again? Thank you for the lovely episode, Lily. I might be emotionally wonky from it, but as always you delivered something beautiful and special to the fans.

He's smart and clever and can figure things out on his own especially being an escape artist, Hmm guess that quality is a skill in his world. He’s all ALONE, looks to be around 7 or 8 years old, seeing the beach for the first time due to his desperation for wanting to be included with the “family.” Of course the Balthumans, Vince at least, doesn’t give a shit about tora and doesn’t care for him as a son. He’s not his blood, but some rat kid he literally took off the streets to use to his own advantage. (Interlude of real world—— today when I was on my way home, I watched a boy walk by himself on the streets, it was getting dark and he looked to be around 8 years old and I asked bae if he would ever be ok if we had a kid that did that cause it’s clearly not safe and it’s a rough part of town.. he’s like hell no- anyone can snatch him- human traffickers are on the rise). This makes me think- tora is a victim of human trafficking…. and yes, I totally remember Poppy about to ask tora if he belonged to human trafficking organization but shut her mouth beforehand. YES- I could be wrong!!! Ok anyway—— it took Tora, himself, to take himself to a place he has never been. Somewhere that’s beautiful, serene, and calm yet in the short distance we see the beach house that Vince and the family is vacationing in. Tora’s childhood self sees that place as a potential safety spot, because he’s longing to be part of the family, he desperately wants to be there too, and wonders if they’d even feed him since he most likely wasn’t given food as punishment or simply cause they don’t care about him. In his dream, poppy shows up- as a friend- a stranger friend if you will. She’s beautiful in her yellow sundress and has a glowing light around her. She interrupts Tora’s thought of going to the Balthuman for “safety.” Perfect timing if you ask me. She offers seashells to him that he was excitingly wanting to find. Baby tora worries and hesitates taking poppy’s offer of shells 🐚 because she’s a “stranger.” One endearing thing I loved in the dream sequence was when poppy’s feelings got hurt when tora called her a stranger, and then baby tora tried to not have poppy cry in his own dream (lol), that was really sweet. The part that pulled at my heart was when poppy was offering to just give him the shells and then leaving. It’s clear- he doesn’t want her to leave but struggles to tell her that yet also has a mental battle with himself in trusting this woman who is offering him nothing but sweet little treasures vs looking back to what he knows- the “safety” of the Balthuman home- which of course is the complete opposite of SAFETY. If he were to go to the balthumans, it’s basically a guarantee of PUNISHMENT, but like a loyal dog, he wants to be where his owners are. So- poppy leaves these little shells/treasures for tora in the sand so when he is comfortable/feels safe, he can get them. We see the tide washing up and dragging a shell back to the ocean and tora worries about them getting washed away. He finally has the courage to tell her to wait and asks what if they wash away. She tells him that they won’t be washed away if he keeps them in his heart. Of course all of this is metaphorically speaking of the treasured moments poppy and tora has shared with each other. We know that tora has tried to push poppy away because he wants her safe and doesn’t want her involved whatsoever in his crime filled life because she’d be in danger. So he thought it was goodbye for them in the previous chapter and that he’d just hold those precious memories to himself. The next panel of the dream sequence, his childhood self worriedly asks if holding the shells as a memory in his heart is not enough. Poppy then tells him you have to choose. I see this as many directions. I believe this is saying that Tora needs to be the one to choose where he wants his life to go. Does he want a life of love, joy, warmth, calm, serenity, and true affection? Oh- and food? - then he needs to decide if he truly wants poppylan in his life. It’s clear that she is meant to be there, she popped up the next day after all, and all this means ultimately is will he continue all this mob life and have his loyalty to Vince?? We will have to find out which path he takes. In the final stages of the dream sequence, Poppy is fading away. We see adult tora looking just like he did as that sad, beaten down, dirty 7?8? Year old self as he calls out desperately to Poppylan. He’s still that same scared little boy, despite all his tattoos and muscles. He has every right to be, his life is in a sadistic man’s hands and he is trying his best to get little ounces of true freedom that he can somehow manage to scrounge up at times, and JUST LIKE THAT, the clan (Martin) is dragging him back in, in a life of do what you’re told OR ELSE! And now we finally get the tip of the iceberg of what happened to baby tora. He was a street kid that was rounded up by the clan but was ultimately trying to escape the adoption center he was at because of possible neglect/abuse. Oh course I have a ton of questions like why was he put up for adoption? Was he given up for his own safety? Were his biological parents not ready? Are his biological parents DEAD!? (I will continue to read every week as all this unfolds) ——-ok I wrote this all in my notes, I will be brief cause I’m exhausted. This entire dream sequence reminded me of a lost abused dog. Poppy is the person trying to coax the dog to come to her as she tries to build trust by offering shells (treats) to the dog as the dog hesitates but clearly wants those treats/safe and loving care but is scared and wants to default to going back to his shitty owner that abuses the crap out of him but continues cause he’s LOYAL. I hope tora one day breaks free from that chained post hes tied to. And hey- maybe he just needs that one person to HELP/RESCUE him escape. Could it be poppy? I believe so 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 WANNA GO TO BEACH SOME DAY?: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 damn it Poppy!!! Say yes!!! Baby needs to go to the beach!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 tora! I try to go once a week IRL!! Not sure my delirious 3:30a ramblings make sense but here we go... Can we talk about Poppy skipping down those steps and smiling!!!!That’s right Bobby! Let Julri’s bullshit wash away. Sometimes we don’t fully process how horrible a situation or person is until someone else shows us what it’s suppose to feel like. Seeing her start to free herself from that mind fuck he put her through is amazing. Tora asking Poppy to go to the beach got me right in the feels 😭 Even though he didn’t reveal to her why he wants to take her to the beach, it still feels like he’s opening a part of himself to her without having to discuss it. From what I can remember, this the first time Tora invites Poppy somewhere that’s not a safe space for him or at least a place where he feels in control. There’s a lot of talk about Poppy being his light but I think she’s also his strength in some ways. Sure, he wants out of the mafia but would he have planted rats in Vincent’s establishments if it wasn’t for protecting Poppy? When it comes to situations where Tora isn’t in control he makes sure to put himself back in control for her sake. Whereas if Poppy isn’t involved he might just go with Vincent’s psychopathic flow. And now wanting to bring Poppy to a place where he felt so out of control is both super vulnerable and almost rewriting that experience for him. It’s also cementing that Tora has no intention of walking out of Poppy’s life at this point. Between this and his new reward system he’s planing to be around for a while. Bless Quincey’s sweet meddling soul. Baby Tora’s dream wasn’t as bad as I was preparing myself for but we do learn a couple of important things. First off Tora was up for adoption and still wasn’t being treated right 😢 That seriously broke my heart. This kid cannot catch a fucking break. I just want to squeeze his cute little self 🥺💜 Second, there were other kids involved. I’m wondering if anyone else we’ve seen so far was there with Tora when he was kidnapped? Perhaps Goliath? We still don’t know how or why Vincent ends up with Tora but not Goliath, what their relation is, or how things went down in the end. Was he also at the adoption agency? Does Vincent just hang out around agencies and daycares hoping to catch stray kids? If Vincent bites the dust in this story I won’t be terribly upset. Just when I think he can’t sink lower damn if doesn’t prove me wrong. And fucking Benjamin😠

Poppy has made it a long way.. she has always had a strong character from the beginning because she was able to walk away from a relationship of 4 + years that was very toxic.. though she still had to repair her emotions and mental state because julri made her insecure with herself. Tora has helped poppy get her mojo back because he treats her as an equal, even though sometimes he just want to protect his little hamster 😂 .. Poppy has helped Tora in a great way too because she sees the good heart he has.. She was skeptical in the beginning(because who wouldn’t) but she managed to show him that he is not the monster he thinks he is.. I could see that he is trying to come to terms with his “demons” but he still needs a long way to go and hopefully he can eventually open up more like poppy has opened up to him. Plus that’s another thing that is amazing about Tora is that he makes Poppy more secure about her real self.. I just can’t wait until they actually become a real couple!! 😩🦋🦋

It breaks my heart that even the adoption center wasn't treating him right. He just knew that there was something better outside of that place he may have felt trapped in... so he ran away...but Balthuman people took him away... I know this is fictional, but at the same time it's so real...the characters and in reality. It's things like this that made me want to adopt in the future. If and when I do, or even with kids of my own or any of my friends' kids, I hope I can support and love them while bringing out the gold in them every step of the way, through every encounter. He helped set Poppy free, showed her what it's like to be loved and true to herself, and fearlessly confident to say that whatever Julri gave was straight BS! Nothing near what Tora gives so naturally to Poppy 💖 But all the Julri's out there... don't stay that way...Learn from BB Tora🙌🏻 I love love love Poppy's cute skip and splash onto the rain puddles! Rain stopped...fresh air..Fresh beginnings hehe Wow so Benjamin had it this whole time! I think the guy was referring to Poppy in the store? Perhaps Benjamin saw her? I wonder if he contemplated on giving it back to her one day, but after seeing her, ended up feeling like he'd sell it instead to make more money to survive? Yikes I wonder whose hands it'll end up with... And how Poppy is going to get it back... If it is Poppy's mom's... I wonder if it'll end up in her hands somehow... And if or how they'll meet again... And does Benjamin know that Tora lives nearby??... Eek!!!

The saddening picture of a hungry, dirty, unkempt Tora, looking about five or six years of age, possibly seven. Episode 48 confirms that Tora was in care and was to be adopted, but ran away. When he said the words (in his adult voice): "...They weren't treating US right!..", instead of saying: "..They weren't treating ME right.." Now I suspect strongly he was there with GOLIATH. Is that his younger brother? Okay everyone, I am convinced that eventually, he will BRING DOWN the Balthuman organisation, due to the physical abuse he has received at Vincent's hands and his desire to be with Poppy. I mean, she even skips out of there - smiling and touching her lips! *Side note, did you all notice how warm and bright the livingroom was this time as well compared to when Poppy first arrived. I always assumed that lighting was just how that room was lit with artificial light, but now I wonder if it’s just because certain lights have been off this whole time making it dark OR was Tora just missing the warm glow that Poppy brings. 😭😭😭 Okay now let’s talk about that dream, I mean nightmare! I think everyone has done a great job describing the symbolism of Poppy in Tora’s dream, the shells, and the hesitation of turning away from the only “family” he’s known. Poor baby Tora, leaving one bad situation of the orphanage only to wind up in the hands of Vincent. One thing that stood out to me is his comment about Quincey. We know Tora’s called Quincey a brat plenty of times but this is such an early memory. I wonder if Tora had resentment towards Quincey for basically having the life he wanted - a family. I also wonder how long this resentment stayed with him and at which point they became friends. Feelings like that can’t be easy to overcome.

Ok, I wanna know the significance of the seashells??? What do they represent? In Tora's daydream she tells him he can keep them in his heart but he said that's not enough for him. And then she says he will have to "choose". So, does that mean that he has to choose between Poppy and the organization??? Basically, to leave the organization you have to die😳 ... Also, I don't know why but I'm thinking that it's the umbrella that Poppy left at the store and the Hairpin may be something that Benjamin has been looking for and maybe found and someone sent him a picture of and Benjamin is asking "how much?" Okay I said I wouldn’t talk about the dream but that was a lie 😅 Theres this feeling I haven’t been able to shake after reading this one. I don’t think I’ve ever truly felt sad for Tora up until this chapter. He was dragged into this world and has been able to survive and made the best of his situation. He’s managed to develop emotionally despite the struggle and scaring of his past. But seeing his internal struggle of literally deciding to follow a stranger (this girl he’s only known for a few weeks) and turn his back on the only family he’s known is just so heartbreaking. I think we can see his fear of even if he does pursue Poppy, he’ll be dragged back in despite wanting to leave. Okay, I’m really done this time...

I was thinking this morning about why this story is so beautiful and complex, what about Lily's storytelling is so next level. My theory is that it's the ambiguity itself, the suggestions and open questions that make the reader fill in those narrative spaces. Like a poem, where the indefinite images and openness make the reader put a piece of themselves into the blanks. Like the line “ran away from the adoption center.” That could mean a lot of things. How did he get to an adoption center? Was he given up for some reason? Did something happen to his parents and there was no relative able or willing to take him? Was he removed from his parents for some fault real or imagined? And what happened at the adoption center to make him run? There are an infinite number of plausible answers to each of those questions. A lesser storyteller might spell this out in a flashback or definitively answer each question. But Lily just makes the suggestion, and lets our imaginations run. So there isn’t one MPL storyline, really. As of right now, there are as many stories as there are readers. Just like poetry. At times Lily may decide to pull one of those blank spaces into better focus, but in the meanwhile it’s the suggestions themselves that are so bewitching. I love this storytelling style so much; I don’t need every question answered. The questions themselves are the heart of it.

When I first saw Poppy on the beach with shells in her hand and wind in her hair, I saw the Birth of Venus by Botticelli. Other friends this morning told me they saw the same thing, so I figured - there’s something here! Venus/Aphrodite is the goddess of love and her most common consort is Mars/Ares the god of war. (Ares St. hmmmm?) The balance of Love/War may be a big part of what their relationship symbolizes. Soft/Hard, Lust/Wrath, Forgiveness/Justice. Tora helps her learn strength (that’s &*$#ing bullshit!) and she makes him weak, in a good way - like a kid, slipping on the steps, burning his finger, daydreaming. Eventually it may cycle back and she’ll teach him strength (standing up to V. Balthuman) while he’ll allow her to be soft (give up some of her hard fought for control). Just a guess. The emergence of Tora’s child self in his dream is him at his most vulnerable, connecting to what he REALLY wants, deep down - home and belonging. But this time one built on love instead of war? IMHO Lily is a genius storyteller, because even if none of this symbolism/allusion was intentional, it meant something TO ME. The themes and characters have been bouncing around my head for months, lighting up synapses. Sometimes the best stories don’t make sense right away. We have to allow them time and space to unfold and make meaning to us, the reader. I know this is hard for a modern readership at times, but everytime I don’t understand something about this story, I just let it marinate. Episodes like this come along and bust everything open, revealing backstory and story progress and foreshadowing and so much more. Thanks again to Lily for putting in the hard word to gift us such a wonderful creation! And it is a gift, don't anyone forget that.

@Larosa I'm going to post my response to your response to Casey over here so I don't hijack Casey's post. For real though. It's unfortunate but understandable that not everyone shares the same slapstick sense of humour that I do 🤣 But more than that, I have other concerns. Anyone who's grown up reading traditional manga, (or anyone who started later but hopefully has found their way around) should know that these comics have always come with copious moments of comic relief. Whether those scenes are funny or not is of course up for debate. But there's no shortage of a tsundere suckerpunching her crush 20 feet into the air, all the way to the other end of the school (Clearly abusive behaviour. Small petite schoolgirls who punch people into the air and across the school should not be allowed to continue, and this trope needs to be die (I'm kidding)). Us comic artists rely on visual cues to indicate to the audience that this is a scene that should NOT be taken seriously. At all. These are cues like exaggerated facial expressions, or an action so completely devoid of logic, it wouldn't even be possible irl. I mean, have y'all seen the size of Tora's neck? That thing can hold up Tora's big head and the entire Mount Olympus, Poppy's lap be damned 🤣 If Tora's head hit the ground because Poppy shoved him off her lap, it's either because 1. He allowed it to. Or 2. (surprise!) It's a comic relief moment. As authors we're counting on our readers to pick up on our visual cues that, yes this is a comic relief moment that you should ONLY be taking at face value. And if readers can't pick up on those cues - or worse, if they choose to read into that scene and tag on some kind of malicious intention where there was never meant to be any.......then that would be a problem for comic artists who love our slapstick comedy.

Damn. Just wow. I feel for you Tora, from one abused child to another still dealing with your trauma. You really get a sense of how abusive of a situation Tora was in. Especially when you see him hungry hoping they'll feed him and when he said "I'm not allowed to talk to strangers". He looked back to the beach house where we can assume Vincent is at. Attachment to a caregiver, even abusive one, is such a hell of a thing. Even when they beat you, starve you or lock you up where it's dark you still want to be with them. Poor Tora. You will get away someday. ❤️ The seashells to me seem to represent the resiliencies of Tora's personality. Like his strong sense of right and wrong, emotional awareness, and empathy. My heart broke when Tora said "what if it's not enough for me". I think Tora is feeling worried about losing himself completely in the mafia. Also Poppy is the one holding the seashells. I wonder if Tora's subconscious is thinking that Poppy is his last chance to get out. He does turn to his adult self and screams her name as she's fading away. And you can see the desperation on his face and she's disappearing. Ohh the lighthearted Poppy at the end was soo cute! Skipping down the steps and jumping into a puddle while thinking of Tora kissing her. Kind of like how Tora was thinking "how the mighty hath fallen" after Poppy kissed him

I’ve notice something and one of the commenters put it on my mind strongly I’ll have to think about (Tora Is a scenario that’s a lot like Damsel in distress) I know this might seem funny but Tora is the damsel the innocent/unloved and unwanted individual that has been neglected by everyone including life it’s self and was judge to serve under the Ugly Stepmother: Vincent and the Mean step sisters: Martin and the rest of the clan. Locked away/being able to never experience a royal life/good free life outside Cleaning and being forced into working constantly for the Ugly step mother and her daughters/ Being forced since a child to work for the mafia and to avoid an change of freedom, constantly having to live a life of servitude and treated as nothing more then a mere DOG. Prince which is poppy sees the beautiful princess which is tora 💀 This is too funny but it made some sense in my brain/Tora meeting poppy over again, and wishes to see her again the prince-poppy wish to meet her/tora after being saved by him from the tree. The need to rush out before ugly step mother and daughters notice/ tora pushing poppy away after he realizes his lifestyle can put her in danger. Princess runs away leaving behind a a piece of her to hurry away back home/ Tora leave his ring something precious to him and leaves away/ the prince keeping the item in search for his beautiful queen/poppy keeping toras ring and hopes to see him again one day . However, Fair-godmother appears one day: Quincess of course 😂😂😂 sets the Beautiful princess to meet (I’m dying so bad right now) lol/Setting them up on a blind date/the princess reveals she’s nothing but a lowly servant for her ugly step mother and sisters. Tora reveals he’s in the mafia- after the item is return to the beautiful princess who becomes queen/Toras ring will be returned 😂😂😂😂😂😂 And the ugly step mother and her daughters will never be heard of again. In other words Vincent: BYE HOE! ✌🏻😂😂🍓

Okay my theory is Benjamin needs money and he thought Poppy was rich because of how she was dressed that night and her giving him 50 bucks to pass a note. So he takes the hair piece thing thinking she could just buy another one but when she was in the store he realized she didn't have much money because she had to count out change to buy food. Poppy is life basically tora's spiritual guide unto which way he must go but tora has to actually choose the GOOD or THE EVIL tora chooses the good, but THE EVIL won't go away without a fight! which tora himself can't fight off the EVIL because it's much stronger and BIGGER then him this is where we see MARTIN appear, and because tora wants to run away from the EVIL he's caught and trapped and locked away to never escape from that life which explains why tora was locked away by vincent as a child and why he was found crying in the hole. Plus that's why we also see vincent tell him "If you try to run away again, you know what will happen to you." They where on the beach when this happened so, part of tora's dream is his true past. The poppy part is just a form of a heavenly being letting tora know he does have a choice! The yellow dress in the dream symbolizes light, joy, happiness, and satisfaction. Also poppy's (◎﹏◎) Face killed me LMFAO!

Like many others, I wanted to digest this episode after reading it, but by the time I was ready to comment there were almost 450 already entered. From the ones that I read, it’s clear that there are some incredibly insightful and detailed analyses already posted. But the subject is so rich, and multi-layered, the desire to add my two cents is too strong to ignore. I also apologize if I am repeating something that was already said. Tora dreams of the beach, it’s bright and peaceful beauty in sharp contrast to the dark, dirty and violent streets of this scruffy little boy’s life. Drawn in by the false promises made by Balthuman, he starts to make his way toward the huge house, where hopes to finally find a home where he will be cared for and safe. As he moves toward the house, Poppy calls to him, pulling him in the opposite direction. She offers him what she truly knew he hoped to find on the beach, love and safety, in the form of shells, held out to him in the palm of her open hand. He initially pushes her away because she is a stranger, an unknown quantity, and he is not ready to trust. But when she starts to tear up at being told she is stranger, he quickly comforts her, having already given up the battle to push her out of his life. Both the house and the shells are a home of sorts, although in stark contrast to one another. The shells are small and fragile, weak physical protection, easily taken away by the tide or crushed by someone more powerful. But they are also being brought to him and offered freely, a gift he can choose to accept or refuse. On the other hand, the huge house is solid, powerful and not easily destroyed, clearly offering the better physical shelter. However, he has to work hard to make it to the distant house, and he’s not sure what he will find when he gets there. Poppy recognizes his struggle and assures him the choice is his, that the shells will be there when he is ready. She even puts the shells down in the surf to show him that they are tougher than he thinks, that they will not easily wash away. Although he wants to accept her offer, he is fearful that the shells will not be enough to give him the safety and protection he desperately seeks. When he makes decision to follow Poppy, he begins to recognize his own strength as an adult, until he is grabbed by Vincent and yanked back to the world that “owns” him and again feels like the helpless child he was when they found him. When he wakes up, he invites Poppy, his angel, to the beach, possibly as a way to rewrite the story and to have an opportunity to make the choice that was denied to him in his dream, and his past. When he extends the invitation, looking up at her from her lap, vulnerable and open, it’s almost too much for Poppy, struggling as she is with own journey to learn to trust and believe in herself again. It’s moments such as this when the parallels of their self-growth is clear, despite their wildly and drastically different backgrounds, and how they give each other permission to grow and heal. (I want to comment on the contrast of their names. Tora is the tiger, the mobster hiding a gentle soul, and tiny Poppy the flower- even her name is delicate!- is so feisty, she constantly causes him physical pain.) I also think it’s interesting that everyone accuses Tora of faking his illness, likely because he is seemingly too indestructible to be taken down by something as common as a cold. The timing of his illness is also telling, as signs of it begin occurring as soon as his feelings for Poppy begin to develop and memories of his trauma are being brought to the surface. It’s not unheard of that trauma symptoms can manifest physically; both physically and emotional defenses are lowered while he heals. There is also the theme of the dino shirt, a sign of his being developmentally “frozen” at the age of his trauma, reflected in his choice of adult attire. Also, he decided to wear this shirt when he wasn’t feeling well, which is a time we all feel vulnerable, reminding us of our younger selves, when the need to be cared for is greater. Although Poppy also wears things meant for someone younger, she wants to let go of this type of clothing once she is able to afford to do so, but Tora defends his choice when Poppy comments on it during the infamous dinner party. As far as the hair tie, I think Tora put the tie in his own hair, not Quincey. Poppy is his source of warmth and comfort, and having no idea he would see her again, he wanted that small bit of her near him when he was sick. And I also need to comment on Quincey and Tora’s relationship. Tora understandably resented Quincey growing up, but clearly cares for and trusts him now. He is protective not just because it’s his job but because Quincey is so loving and protective right back. Despite being a Balthuman, Quincey sees the good in Tora and encourages it, and truly wants him to find happiness. Lilydusk, I do not think I am exaggerating to say this comic would be an amazing tool to use in college psych or literature classes, not to mention art courses. There are so many themes to explore around human development in psychology and the interplay between themes of dark and light/good vs evil, character development, and story pacing in literature. I am no expert but am interested in both subjects, so I hope this makes sense. I know that graphic novels and comics are underrated as an art form (I was once one of those snobs!) so I thank you for this gift, as other commentators have described it, which opened up this world for me. I hope you recognize how talented you truly are. ❤️❤️❤️👏 PS- I need to put this out there as well: I LIVE for the day that Tora and Julri come face-to-face...Oh, the delicious possibilities of Tora meeting the man who hurt his Poppy! But to be clear, I think just a look from Tora would be sufficient to put Julri in his place (and maybe cause him to need a change of pants). 😁

I love the beach scene, it's so peaceful looking. Lily your details shine through significantly 🥰!!! In Tora dream, I think he comes to realize that he doesn't just want Poppy hidden away in his heart. That's what isn't enough for him. It's not about the sea shells... It's about his feelings towards Poppy. It's clear that the life Tora has been dealt was not of his choosing. First in an orphanage where he wasn't being taken care of properly and then to a group of individuals who treat him like property. Poor Tora! There is always so much I want to know about his past, but at the same time I know it would be painful to read 😢... I have always wanted to know what happened to his parents and how badly was he mentally and possibly even physically abused by Quencie father... "Then maybe you'll have to choose" is a very strong foreshadow. Will Tora eventually choose the life he was give or the life he now wants to live. Poppy is letting him know there is always a choice. He can choose the happier things in life, experience warmth , and most importantly loved 💜. I love the growth that Poppy keeps experiencing within herself and realizing more and more how much a piece of crap Julri!!! Julri a good boyfriend my ass 😑, you were definitely a manipulating lier to our sweet Poppy!!! On a lighter note I enjoyed seeing that Tora still loves one thing from his childhood. Dinosaurs! He had a T-Rex shirt on at Gudruns (the restaurant) and a T-Rex shirt on in his dream when he was a child. Too cute 🦖!!! Another sweet sentiment is when Tora yells for Poppy because he doesn't want her to go, not even in his dream. Oh my heart 💜!!! Tora has on his treasured 🍓hair tie !!! Poppy apparently doesn't know how much of a soft spot that man has for her, nor does she realize how much he loves strawberries lol.

Like his profession, where he would live, would he still get along with Poppy, etc? Can I just voice my appreciation for the thickness of Poppy's pigtails/twin tails? Not all of us have super full hair to make two thick ponytails *I'm looking at you Sailor Moon*. So Poppy's beach hair was perfect to me. Seeing Martin interact with Tora really drives home the fact that Tora really hasn't had the opportunity to hold anyone's hand. Also, I feeling a little attacked by that grocery store clerk. Mind your damn business while I count my coins for ten minutes !!! This is one human interaction that gives me so much anxiety... Wow I know I am late to the comment game but. THIS. CHAPTER. I got situated in my MPL Spot as I do every Friday night, normally im fairly quiet, but THE FEELS THIS WEEK. "Me: YES, @Lilydusk, fuck me up sis. Partner: Oh is it good, I mean it always is but whats going on?! Me: LET ME FINISH! Then we can read it together like we usually do, Him: TFT fine". The range of emotions I felt. during. this .episode. I love the tenderness between them, the hairtie(I SEE YOU QUINCESS) the vulnerability on both their parts this episode. Tora wanting to use her lap as a pillow, not her whole body respecting her boundaries, we love. Him also instantly falling asleep on her,*chefs kiss* I love his comfort and ease around her. Baby Tora in the dream- Heart Shatters- adorable and endearing but heart breaking Small Tora saying he cant talk to strangers- him actively trying to push Poppy away. Seashells. the symbolism of a normal life and it with Poppy, *immediate tears* Waves- the mafia the constant in his life trying to take those things away, UHG OK JUST STAB ME( I am here for the hurt tho, lets be real) Grown Tora(real quick that green is one of his colors, Swoons) calling out for Poppylan-her full name, deceased. Tora is a MAN he knows he fucked up and he apologized. I could almost feel her joy when I saw her skipping down the stairs, like her inner child felt safe to come out. I’m usually really wary of the manic pixie dream girl trope in series (even this one!) where the existence of a woman is to help a man MC process trauma/heal, but this chapter really showed that as much as Poppy is helping Tora through all that, he’s doing that for her too thru emotional validation & more,so it’s more or less reciprocal and interdependent! We stan a healthy relationship development <3
