I’m super curious to see how the precedent Quince has set here shifts the center of gravity in the Tora/Bobby dynamic. Poor Tora probably felt super embarrassed and just not sure how or when or where to bring this up to Poppy. Heck I’d run away from that conversation in a hurry, too. Don’t think I didn’t notice that Tora lifted his head - and then put it right back down again the second Poppy asked about his clan restrictions. That boy is carrying around a LOT of shame. I have said this in a previous post but once Tora or QB at her side no one can’t deny POPPY because of their status. Also the look on tora face when they talk about the status difference between Quincy and tora you ca tell it’s a touchy topic and most people might think status as jealousy but it’s just they are in a position without a choice of their own.

I feel like I could feel the heartbreak in the panel where Quincey says he hopes they won’t be viewed differently. That was such a punch to the gut. I would have avoided Poppy too after that talk. Not sayin’ it’s right, but damn. Never seen him as anything but a regular guy?! And now the mafia thing is out in the open and Poppy still has arms wide open? That level of intimacy is enough to freak ME out. It’s like Tora got a green light and then said ahhh shit back up I need to protect by avoidance even more now. And the office smile oh Tora. i would understand why Tora would “avoid” her. Him & Quincey had to open up about something personal, something they have no choice to begin with. Tora especially, since he was abused and had undergone a lot of childhood trauma, suddenly has this wall slowly tearing down and is afraid that if he completely breaks it down, he’ll loose her. It’s scary. Considering they’re in the mafia and Tora is a body guard, he probably has to do things Poppy won’t approve of and will push her away. Tora is a great guy and in a situation he has no control over and hopefully if he opens up about this, Poppy will still accept him with open arms and understand

My defensive mode kicked in for this entire episode for Poppy. :( Especially when she got kicked out of line like that! Why wasn't Erdene with her or why wasn't she with her co-workers as a celebratory group? 🥺 It would've made Poppy feel less left out. It does make me glad Tora got there and helped her up. I feel bad between both Poppy and Tora and their distance during that week. It brings up miscommunicated emotions of what they're thinking in that moment (but also love Tora's friendship with Jacob lol). I do like that Tora keeps her by his side as they enter the club, but of course I'm hoping questions (and maybe confessions) are answered in the next chapter (or following)! In a way I enjoyed this chapter. It did make me feel iffy/uncomfortable about the situations that were unveiled. I like that they disclosed almost everything to Poppy about who they are, though the repercussion was Tora avoiding Poppy. I love that Tora and Poppy are dressed up but I felt that loneliness in just that short moment when Poppy was standing in line. I like that Tora helped Poppy up and held her hand into the club but I felt uncomfortable with his guys standing behind them. I know Tora trusts them but to already have them around Poppy urks me a little bit. I feel like I'm repeating myself but all I can say is I'm looking forward to the next few episodes! I know the set up in this chapter will be worth it for the upcoming ones ❤️

And I’m happy that Poppy reveals that she sees Tora as a regular guy. I hope she and Tora can have a heart-to-heart soon and get into the details of what they think about each other. *starts chanting… ro-mance-ro-mance-ro-mance* - Also what does the whole “lawyers who take care of these things… on the most basic level” mean? Sounds quite ominous. Don’t go be spreading misinformation, Gil et al. - I’m so happy that Tora and Jacob are getting along. I love nuisance Tora who leaves everyone flustered. May we soon be blessed with more Erdene & Tora interactions in which they also get along, and perhaps there is flustering in the other direction. - Poor Poppy! Boo bouncer! I would definitely have cried in addition to tripping over my heels if I were in her situation. I saw her start to tear up, but I’m very proud of her for holding it together! I kinda wish she had smirked at the bouncer when she walked in later with the Balthuman Boys, but our Pops isn’t that kinda girl haha. - My current status: writing this from the floor, because I had to join Poppy on the ground when we got that view of Tora in his leather jacket - LILY HOW ARE YOU SO TALENTED. I just want to talk about the panel where Poppy looks up at Tora, and then the next where she smiles at him and he says “c’mon”. I really can’t tell what’s different about how you drew her in each panel, but you somehow managed to transform her facial expression with very subtle differences in the drawings. It’s so life-like, and honestly masterful. - I noticed one of Tora’s men (the gray-haired guy on the left, who I believe Tora invited outside to the alley after the pool/Yadori incident) noticing something. Was he just surprised at Tora and Poppy? Or something else? In any case, Tora’s men are going to have a lot to talk about after Tora and Poppy find themselves a nice private cave corner. - Huge shout-out to the nightclub venue for being both super cool AND for having uneven floor that requires hand-holding to navigate! - I love love love their stationary banter! I live for their banter in general. I love how Tora just rolls with whatever goofy thing Poppy says. So damn smooth. Love love love.

I think Patreon ate my comment, so here it goes again: The one thing I especially loved about this episode was the visual metaphor of the cave and Tora being the one who takes Poppy's hand and leads her down the stairs into that world. The cave is suchhhh a good representation of the world that Quincey and Tora live in, and, while Poppy accepts Tora and is open-minded about his world (or as much of it that she knows about it at the mo), Tora has been wrestling with his feelings for her and what it would mean for her to become part of his dark and twisty world. Compare the cave to how Tora dreamt of Poppy...a bright presence on a light and airy beach. Poppy is everything that is sunny and full of light, and Tora is the dark, seductive allure of the cave. Darkness and Light, Yin and Yang, however you want to phrase it - for Poppy and Tora's relationship to work, there has to be a balance between them. Lily does an amazing job of not only showing us the weight of Tora's decision to take Poppy's hand, but the importance of them walking down into the depths *together*. I'm not sure if this makes any sense - it's been a long week and my introvert battery is about drained - but yeah, I love love loved this episode and the metaphor of the cave! <3 I'm also copying my comment in case it gets snacked on again by Patreon...

This chapter left me even more hyped for the next one! I'm not going to talk about how Tora was good looking or the pain they both feel because of Tora struggling with his feelings and whether he should run away or not (Massive Attack's Angel music video, how perfect the choice of this song was, and the lyrics emphasize the most the moment Tora finally turns and faces his feelings "fuck it I'm the one whose hunting now") I was just wondering.. Tora seems to be a real loner person, independent as fuck, yet here he comes with what we suppose to be friends' clan. I wonder if he gets them because they are the same as he is : fucking ashamed of what they are and they do, but somebody must do the dirty job, and if it can be done without involving civilians or without killing than they'll do so (remember the chapter when Tora had four targets to kill but choose to injure them with his snipper rifle as a warning?) In that case of clan friends members of Tora's bodyguard crew, did Tora choose to come with them because 1) they could protect him if anything happen 2) they also could protect Poppy as a civilian without them being a snitch to the whole Balthuman org. because well.. They know really well how Tora feels as they feel the same? Gyu said once "her secret is safe with me" when talking about the notebook affair, maybe the men will do the same about Tora's relationship with Poppy? I hope they'll do, I hope they won't be the problem, there are many more people ashamed of them working on the mafia than people being proud of. I hope the Massive Attack's Angel sexual mood this song provides me will keep up on them at this party, the romance will finally succeed, because know they get down both in the dark cave instead of evolving in the shiny bright place they used to meet, it's the point of me return, now they will have to choose once and for good. I think I don't need to comment about Tora has been avoiding Poppy, I believe is too much for him, first: to be so deeply in love, second: she accepting him and above all, the reality of his life. I love all the simbolism and references on this episode. Tora in a leather jacket and Poppy in a light pink dress, after bein apart for few days, he shows up giving her his hand, reminds me so much of Johnny in "Dirty Dancing" - "Nobody puts baby on a corner, in this case "Nobody puts MY BABY on the corner", the outfit, Tora's men, the timming, everything on point. I didn't remember this reference when I was reading the episode, but when I lay down to sleep, It came vividly on my mind! This little scene was so important, he has seen this happen to Poppy and won't allow nobody tell his girl she's unwanted! So, Poppy is walking into Tora’s universe now, as we expect of the great second part of the story. I love how he guides her as they go deep down, a little ahead of her, his man vigilante behind – because “help me God if the tiger has to be in action” he’s trained his men so well, as an arranged coerography they were step by step surveilling all the path down. Fallen Angel, Poppy is an “angel fallen from the heavens” in Tora´s mind, and now, she’s willing to dive in his underworld, hand by hand with him, I think he was preparing himself to this moment during the week, and thinking about how to talk to her – now that the truth was revelled. I’ve noticed Lily hightlighted the hotel front just beside the club... will they end up there if things get dangerous on the club? Maybe... The days Tora has avoided Poppy were also important for Poppy putting on perspective how badly she wants him on her life. When we’re falling for someone, sometimes this time off help us to analise and perceive that we’re already in love.

Especially in light of the fact that he has such little control and even uses his outfits as a way to subtly rebel with the clan. Tora puts so much value on the things he actually has control over. So contrast of what he chooses to wear when he is with Poppy vs with the clan is even more telling! Also, I can’t wait to see a flashback of boys going shopping! Id love to see their banter and if that is where Tora found the jacket 🤗🥰

I'm not usually a fan of romance because I feel like characters are always really unaware or closed minded; which then makes me extremely frustrated because that's not how it is in the real world... Sometimes when you hear a hard truth about someone you love, it just makes you want to be there for them and not run away. With this, and these characters, my god Lily. You're incredible. You have done an amazing job giving life to these beautiful people. I love that we're seeing so much growth in pop's. The thing that struck me most about this is how alone Poppy is. Tora, who is no social butterfly 🦋 shows up with an entourage in tow. He has Quincey and Gyu. I love his relationship with Quincey, who seems sensitive to Tora's situation and has his back as well as acting as wingman. Poppy is there as part of her birthday present for her coworkers forgetting about her, but she's still by herself. She's at an unfamiliar place, waiting in line for a while, based on comments from the other club goers, and is denied entry for still not fitting in because she's got a coat on. Then adding insult to injury- or injury to insult in this case, she trips and has no one to catch her. When Tora walks up she's still in the mindset that she's on her own, until he extends his hand. We know Tora sees Poppy as a light in his life, but little things like this show that he's a light in Poppy's too. Theories for next week: They walk in holding hands in front of Poppy's coworkers, Quincey and Gyu who are already waiting for them in the cave- Tora said she was late to get own party. I'd love to see Cordy and Mirabelle and Danae in there with everyone else. Poppy's dress 👗, I'm dying from curiosity!

I was reading again and noticed a part of this episode that reminded me of the ending part of episode 39. In the ending of episode 39 it showed Tora leaning against his car as he had reminiscent thoughts playing through his mind of Poppy coming out to meet him before their date. Afterwards, it showed him standing there with his thoughts looking towards nothing, she was gone, he felt at that moment that was it because of who he is and she didn't belong with him. In this episode we see Poppy wanting Tora to understand that it's ok, she doesn't view him differently but we see her standing in loss thought as she stares at Tora as he averts his gaze from her, he is there and in the next panel he isn't as she stands there in pondering thoughts as he did in episode 39. Now she's left wondering is he gone, not wanting to be involved with her considering his lifestyle. The way her face lit up when he placed his hand out to lift her from the ground.... These two angels are definitely "falling" in love and it's sooooo beautiful the way it's all piecing together🍓💗🍓

We had guests over last night so I couldn’t fully process this episode until this morning~ - Quincey says Cordy isn’t working for “HIS” family, so I’m thinking she must work for a different clan or something? - LOVE that Poppy directly says that she’s never seen Tora as a regular guy, but I’m wondering if that’s why he ends up keeping a bit of a distance from her? Because he now knows that she’s fully aware he’s not just a regular guy, but in the mafia? I don’t really understand what’s going through his head right now, but I just can’t wait to see their relationship progressing more. - So I think it upset some people that Tora didn’t immediately help Poppy up when she falls and he says “then get ya ass off the ground.” But I think it’s kind of important that it’s mentioned in a later panel that “those punks looks like Balthuman”, which means this club might not necessarily be owned by the clan or on “clan territory” or whatever, if that’s a thing in this universe. If Tora were to immediately break character/persona and run to Poppy’s aid, he would be putting a huge target on Poppy’s back as his weakness and soft spot in front of people who potentially be from rival clans. To me, I think the way he kept his cool makes her look more like she’s “under the protection of the clan” as opposed to “Tora’s love interest who could be used against him in the future.” - Tora looking sooooo gooood and I can’t wait for Poppy’s outfit reveal. - Tora’s crew also looking so fiiiine. Please introduce us Lily! I know there’s a lot of ErdeneXGyu (and ErdeneXShing Ma) shippers, but I wouldn’t complain about Erdene going after one of those tall drinks of water 💦. I know these are these are minor details but I just noticed Poppy’s hair, and the sweet bow she has holding it back. I am trying my hardest to come up with "non spoiler" questions that are all "super casual" and don't at all come off like they're sneakily trying to deduce actual canon plot... unfortunately my admitting that is an indication of the impossibility of the task. So i'll flood with questions and hope that one isn't a spoiler. 1. Can Tora dance? 2. Can Poppy sing? 3. Why in the hell didn't Erdene arrive with Poppy? 4. Are his "Guys" there as friends or as guards? 5. Did the guys actually take jacob shopping? 6 Will we ever see that? 7. It's Tora's birthday, did they invite Alice? lol 8. What did they do for Tora's birthday last year?

Some observations: Episode 10: Ares Street Kings picture. - White van. - Little girl with shoulder-length hair in background, skinned knees and crying, presumably from falling down. - Everyone’s focus is on getting in the picture and one kid even seems to be yelling for teenage Tora to get in the photo… - …but Tora’s focus is solely on the little girl; he seems to be trying to help her up. Episode 30: Flashback to pre-teen Pops with her pops back in Moonbright. - They’re hanging out in a tree and they spot a white van driving through the backcountry road. - They assume it’s out-of-town college or high school kids on summer holiday. - Poppy sips on strawberry juice. - Poppy had shoulder-length hair as a ‘tween.’ Episode 52: The doorman denies Poppy entry to the ‘exclusive’ nightclub based on how she is dressed. - Poppy’s not used to dressing up, not used to wearing heels—she trips and falls down. - Poppy’s dignity is injured and she feels out-of-place, out-of-her element—and adding to her humiliation, everyone else waiting to get into this ‘exclusive’ club doesn’t seem to notice or care enough to help her. - Except for Tora, who again, through life’s series of dots, is right there to catch Poppy when she falls (Ep 5 & 6) or help her stand up again.

Okay, so I am a pretty new patron. Just been here a few months, but I am LIVING for moments like Tora grabbing Poppy’s hand. This is the first graphic novel I have ever really gotten into and I can honestly say Lily set the bar sooo high. 😂 I may just have to only read everything she does forever. Tora and Poppy are 😍. Re-reading the episode (like I do everyday until the next one 🤪) and when Quincey is explaining his clan involvement he says, “I hope you guys won’t see us any differently...” Does that mean he’s giving Poppy the okay to tell Jacob & Erdene or is that implying that they already know? Just curious if that was explained or hinted at and I missed it? :)

My heart broke with how Tora shut down. I could almost hear his voice be very soft when he said he would tell her later. You could just tell he wasn’t 💯 comfortable and I just wanted to hug and squeeze him! I also wanted to squish and hug Quincey for being so squishable. Also kudos to Poppy for keeping a cool head and being mature enough to not freak out and make them feel worst

@Lilydusk will we get to learn a little more about Tora’s crew? I feel like Tora wouldn’t trust just anyone to have his back but I get that he might not get to choose. Does he have history with them, some profound event that made him choose these particular men like with Gyu? Or were they assigned to him by Vincent? Mostly I’m curious about the one with the skull on his neck and the one with the backwards hat that are closest to Tora on the street because I’m a sucker for the bad boy look 😬 and they’ve caught my attention 😏

I apologize if I over-comment on this episode (is comment bombing a thing??) and is someone already discussed this and I missed it. But I’m obsessively re-reading and noticed a few things that got lost in the aftermath of the vision that was Tora in his “party clothes”. 😍 Anyway, in the early part of the episode, when Poppy has the boys lined up outside to talk to them, some contrasts around the theme of dark and light struck me that I want to point out. Although dark and light is often used as a metaphor for good and evil, in the case of Quincey and Tora, it’s more of a blend, like shades of gray. Quincey comments that it’s not easy talking about being in the mafia, even for someone as “shameless” as him. Does he mean that he feels no shame, and he usually a quite comfortable talking about his mafia life? Or is he referring to himself as “blameless” because he stays removed from most mafia business, and other than occasionally using his familial connections for some moderate revenge, considers himself to have clean hands? I am curious about this because it speaks to Quincey’s mindset and understanding about his life, and in turn, Tora’s. Although Quincey recognizes Tora’s “situation” is harsher than his, its an extreme understatement considering that Quincey is part of the family and is afforded confidence which accompanies the privileges of this role, while Tora is on the opposite side. He is literally owned by the same family, viewed as nothing more than a dog or a tool to be used and abused, and carries the heavy burden of being deeply ashamed of who he is. Quincey is allowed to remove himself from the family business activities, enabling him to close his eyes and turn his back in order to feel light and blameless, while Tora is not given that same choice. Tora is forced to carry out all the dirty work Quincey is protected from, horrible punishments on victims he often has nothing against personally, a fact which haunts him and causes him to feel worthless, and that he belongs alone in the dark, in the shadows. Tora is even prominently branded with family crest, large and glaring on his neck like a dog collar, while Quincey’s is on his chest, smaller and much more easily hidden if desired. The contrast of dark and light can also be clearly seen when the boys are sitting next to each other. Quincey, is physically pale, with blond hair and blue eyes, angelic-looking, despite having been born into a mafia family that could be considered evil. He admits there is no escaping who he is, but recognizes how lucky he is to have been born into a position of power, and does not dispute Tora’s view of him as a “mafia princess.” He’s friendly and seems content with his life, and confidently dresses for attention. His body language conveys that he is open and relaxed and comfortable talking to Poppy, despite some nervousness, and is able to make eye contact and speak freely. On the other hand, Tora, olive-complexioned, with black hair and dark eyes, is stoic, moody and imposing, often viewed as scary or with a cold, dark or creepy aura. Ironically, Tora was an innocent, an orphan from unknown origins, who was created into the person he is rather than having been born into it. He wears dark colored clothes and is covered head to toe in long pants, a turtleneck, even a hat, like he’s prepared to move back to the shadows, which he is comfortable. Tora’s body language says he is completely shut down, with folded arms and crossed legs, and unable to make eye contact with Poppy. He also makes Quincey do all the talking as he is uncomfortable and does not know what to say. The brief comments that he made sounded childish and defensive, while Quincey sounded calm and clear. Well, that’s all I have for now, but I can’t promise I won’t have more thoughts on this I will feel compelled to add later. Thanks for letting me share!💜
