Ladies Night 💙💙

I know Erdene set quite a few people off a few episodes ago, and I can fully see why. But, I love this girl. And like all of us human beans, she comes in a whole package, flaws and all, so I hope there won't be too many hard feelings against her 🙈🙈💜That said, there will always be people - fictional or otherwise - who rub us the wrong way no matter what. So even if you're still not a fan, that's perfectly fine too 🙌🙌

I know people didn’t like how quickly she judged Tora but tbh as horrible as this sounds, it’s basic human nature to judge someone who you don’t know. I know we shouldn’t judge people by their cover and whatnot but when you first meet someone and you don’t have anything else to go buy, it’s an instant reaction to judge by what you do know and can see about them, although it not nice, I hope people can understand that a little bit

Nah. Erdene is an awesome friend to Poppy. She has shown the ability to re-examine her assumptions about Tora and consider that her initial assessment may not have been fair. That says a lot about someone's integrity and character when they are willing to change their mind or admit they were in the wrong when presented with facts and context.

Erdene is a fantastic friend to Poppy. All she did was look out for her when something rubbed her the wrong way. She re-examined her bias and was open-minded enough to change her perspective. If we can forgive Tora for being a jackass to Poppy at that dinner (regardless of whether or not he had a good reason), then I don’t see why we should hold Erdene’s cautiousness against her. Anyway, I’m so excited for next episode.

She's also that hot friend that isn't perfect lol 😉 I have one of those. If everyone just fell in love with Tora, the story would lose its charm. He's not a lovable guy at first meeting. So if she fell under his spell like all the other women that try to exchange numbers with him, id be like...ok so its a fantasy romance tale lol. I love Dene - and their cherry Pops ( 👀 ) group! Ofc she has flaws like all the others, and that's the best part of it! You write multidimensional characters so beautifully well and they feel incredibly real and relatable! Dene keeps treating Pops like a kid who needs guidance and protection (like pretty much everyone around her does) but that's a two way street there! Every relationship is. Poppy resents being seen as the 'shorty' helpless little kid but she keeps playing along and feeding into that trope and it has become a mechanism she often resorts to. She needs to start believing in her own voice and her own strength without having to make use of those artifices so she can properly stand up to herself and stop enabling that sort of perception. She's a feisty, determinate, strong and capable (hamster) woman with a big (pair of "balls"!) heart! Only her self image is so broken by all the years of being gaslit by her ex, by the bullying she experienced as a kid and most probably by losing both her parents in a way (to cancer and to maternal abandonment) that she trapped herself mentally to that and now needs a healthy dose of emotional validation to break free from it She probably still feels like that scared little kid and it's clinging on to a sorta childlike state not only because growing up feels scary and risky and it means growing up and away from all that she knows but it also means moving forward and apart from the memories of her dad and her home; away from the feeling of guidance and protection and onto your own two wobbling legs. Enters: self doubt and relying on the "adults" around you. But tho scary as it is that also feels exciting and new and I'm sure those two legs are getting firmer with each step forward! She just turned 21, she is living in the big city by herself and finally was able to end that toxic relationship with Julri. Not to mention there's a 6'3" hunk piece of emotional intelligence at her mercy rn. This is a coming of age story for Poppy, she just needs to start believing in herself more and seeing herself like Tora does, and I'm sure she'll be able to be more assertive and confident and those changes will impact on the way those close to her perceive and treat her as well! And after that "something else that lurks under the surface" is released I'm positive there will be no doubting Pops is a hella boss lady and sure doesn't need any help in the getting laid department! 😅

The way Lilydusk talked about Erdene setting people off, I first saw the picture as Poppy about to take her down 🤣 🤣🤣 catfight! Buuuuttttt, then I thought about it and I can’t see Poppy doing that. Not that she couldn’t but I don’t think she would. I think Erdene is a type of personality you have to be able to handle. She’s very up front and honest, which is great but sometimes it borders on hurtful to me. Like when she was whispering to Poppy in the office about Tora when Quincey first introduced Tora. It came off as “Poppy, you don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s bad news, stay away.” On one hand, she’s trying to look out for Poppy, which is good, but the way I read it and the way I heard it in my head, I probably would have walked away from her. She doesn’t know Tora and her judgmental would have upset me if I’d been in Poppy’s shoes but I see where she’s coming from.

I love Erdene. Her heart was in the right place in regards to protecting Poppy from another potentially bad/dangerous relationship. Plus she actually listened to Poppy when she disagreed instead of blowing Poppy off insisting that her own opinion was gold. I love her for that.

A couple episodes back, I was concerned that Erdene would steam roll over Poppy's own judgment, but after seeing how she checks in with Poppy's cousins and is upfront with Poppy and even has hard conversations (like good friends will), I'm totally on the pro-Erdene boat. Real friendships can take some honesty, disagreement, and tussles, then they bounce right back to where you started - love and enjoyment of your friend. I believe that's the beauty of theses characters, we don't know their motivations and backgrounds until they are revealed to us throughout the story. There's room to be multifaceted 🙂 All the wobbly walking means more time for Poppy to hold onto Tora 😎 and go somewhere quiet 😉.

We all need a friend that will stand up for us, have our back and look out for our best interests. However, sometimes, inadvertently (or not) it can be considered as suffocating and manipulative behaviour. Short story is that Erdene's heart is in the right place, she doesn't want Poppy to get hurt again and she knows that 'lil' sis' is a bit naive when it comes to the big city life and dealing with men. So Erdene has a big sister approach to help her out. But Poppy needs to develop and find her own way regarding her love life, but can 'check in' from time to time with Erdene to let her know how things are going. Of course, if things get out of hand, then big sister can step in and help her sort things out, only if needed. It looks like the relationship between them is going that way, as Poppy is learning to stand up to her friend and voice her opinion in a non-challenging way.

I can see why Erdene would be judgemental of Tora, most people are due to how he looks etc. And us readers are super protective of him, because we see what happens behind the scenes. Which Dene obviously doesn’t. But can’t deny she’s got Poppy’s back and that stands for a hell of a lot. No doubt if she were real she’d be judged a lot too. Like you say, not everyone is going to be your cup of tea. But all these different characters’ personalities is making for one hell of a great ride and I can’t wait to go the distance with them. erdene made me unhappy because she forgot poppy's bday less than judging tora - her protectiveness of poppy was understandable but forgetting poppy's bday when she'd been reminded - that was shitty. i LOVE erdene as a character. she's the BEST. she has so many layers and is a FANTASTIC character. i love that she is FLAWED like ALL of us. that is why it's OKAY to have issues with her. we are not supposed to love everything about every character. that's what makes them REAL and not one dimensional and people who think you're supposed to love everything about every character 100% of the time are deluded. you're gonna dislike things about every character or you're not being honest. when lily is telling the amazing story she's telling she's telling a HUMAN story and HUMAN's are flawed. so we're not gonna like things about them just like we don't about ourselves and others. that's what i LOVE about MPL. it's INCREDIBLE. REAL. POWERFUL. EMOTIONAL PASSIONATE. it RESONATES. makes us FEEL.

I thought maybe Quincey told Poppy to wear the highest, sexiest heels possible because he knew Tora would be all over that? But then he also knew that the ground was uneven and dangerous. So maybe he wanted to put Poppy in a position where she would be unable to walk, forcing her to sit down all evening and keep a certain blazing-hot introvert company? I remember this one time I went to a restaurant for my niece's birthday and I looked so fucking good in these black platform pump with stiletto heel. I'm making the grand entrance next to my brother and the fucking floor had some weird tiles. Next thing I remember was throwing a blood curdling scream because the heel got stucked in between the tiles and almost broke my ankle. I like Erdene. Honestly, I LOVE Tora, but first impressions mean a lot to some people and he didn't impress Erdene. He gives off a scary vibe if you don't know him, and she was genuinely concerned about a friend that she knows has been hurt in the past. Her comments came from an honest, loving place and weren't meant to cause trouble. I was still screaming, "you're wrong about him!!!" but I can fault her for what she said.

I just realized something. I see a huge comparison between the relationship between tora and his relationship with Vincent and Danielle and her stepmother the movie ever after. They both were abused by their caretakers for years and even though a part of them hated them they also loved them even after all the pain they put them through and deep down all they wanted was their stepparents love and approval and that’s why they did everything they said without question. But just out of fear but out of love. If that make sense. Which is very sad to think about 🥺 poor tora so many conflicting emotions he must have to wrestle with every day.
