This is such a good episode! I love the humor in it. Damien repeating his Grinder profile made me laugh out loud to the point that my husband asked what I was reading. This episode had so much gems! Damien and his grinder intro, torra just want his precious poppy to notice him, torra not trying to recruit people even at a young age, erdene and her cute smile. Probably actively avoids showing that side of himself much 'cause he doesn't want anything to do with looking or acting like Vincent, but it's part of himself. I really hope that the club owner is also another one of Q's flings and that he's male just because I think being bi/pan or simply not putting labels on his sexuality would fit his character so well! As for Poppy, I think the background side characters really summed everything up. Poppy is always seen as the cute little girl next door, not the hottie wild type. She often gets boxed off like that and she's so used to it that, again, it feeds a lot of the insecurities she feels around Tora. Thinking is just unfathomable that a guy like him would have his eyes on her... she doesn't even notice him there! Side that up with earwax and loud music and poor tiger couldn't catch her attention for dear life! Haha poor thing! At least Erdene and Jacob caught on to it! The ironic thing about Tora not being able to get Poppy’s attention is that just last episode, Poppy was telling Erdene that he is the type to grab everybody’s attention wherever he goes. 🤣 Everybody’s but hers!!! But I don’t think Poppy’s doing it on purpose. I think there is big part of her that doesn’t believe that someone like Tora could genuinely be interested in her. She called herself the “creeper” that lurks in the corner staring at ppl like him. The shot where the thuglets have surrounded Erdene and Poppy is left out of the conversation, I’d imagine that might happen to Poppy a lot when she’s out with Erdene and her other gal pals when men are involved. Men tend to go for the obvious goddesses. The thing that sets MPL apart from the romance stories involving the mob is that most of the time the mobsters go for the goddess/bombshells like Erdene and someone like Poppy will just be the cute but somewhat frumpy best friend sidekick. Poppy may not get the attention of all the guys in the room, but she gets the attention of THE guy in the room. Quality over quantity any day.

I’m writing this after a very large glass of raspberry hard cider (whee!), so yeah. I’m about as tipsy as Quincey and this could just be a whole bunch of word vomit. 🥳🥳🥳 A lot of this episode is seen through Tora’s POV; he is the Watcher, Observer, and Guardian. Poor (baby) Tora. He is so used to pulling all the focus in the room that Poppy’s fluttering in and out of reach is super frustrating for him. Hello? Can the Magnificent Raging Greek God of a Stallion get some attention, please? 😤 Tora also being Tora, he internalizes and waits. He’s frustrated, but patient. I’m torn as to whether Poppy is ignoring him on purpose or is truly the oblivious little unicorn with her Appletini (is that an Appletini??) wandering around in her little bubble among the clan members and creepers. She almost reminds me of Glinda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. I mean, their dresses and auras are the same colors, right? 🧚🧚🧚 However, that could just be the cider speaking. Anyway. Where was I? Oh, yeah, Tora as the Watcher, Observer, and Guardian. In fiction, there is usually that one character who sees everything and patiently observes. Tora is that person in this story, but he’s also the guardian who protects those he cares for - which Watchers/Observers usually don’t do. They tend to be omniscient beings who are detached from everything and everyone, so this is where Tora is different and where Lily’s writing shines through. It’s easy to be an Observer and watch from afar, see all the pieces (and people) in play, and to think through all of the various outcomes - but it’s really hard to actually be open and vulnerable enough and to care enough to sacrifice some of yourself to guard/love another being. To me, while Poppy is the vulnerable one in Tora’s world, Tora is the most emotionally vulnerable one in the entire story. Poppy doesn’t fully realize it yet, but Tora has pretty much staked himself into the middle of a street at high noon in front of a moving train emotionally and it will be stunning when he lays it all out for her to see. I just realised: when Damien/Pinky was recalling the brutal scene of Tora having battered someone to death, I think Poppy made the connection of what Tora actually does in the Mafia. Okay so I just read through the entire comic again and I am convinced that poppy’s hair pin/brooch is the symbol for a clan that we haven’t seen yet, that has something to do with her mother and maybe had a tie in the the second clan family that Quincy’s mother belongs to. Not sure if anyone else has thought the same as me. But I was first thinking how do people recognise Tora and his crew as Balthuman's men as only certain high ranking members have the Balthuman Crest on them (like Tora, Scharch, Martin who have the crest on the left hand side of their neck -and Quincey with 1 crest on his left chest and the other on his right arm? And then I re-read MPL + realised that most of the clan members have tattoos of a gun and/or a rose + leaves. Damien (aka pinky) has two guns on his neck as an x under the crazy skull tattoo with a rose and green leaves under the chin of the skull. Brian (aka Lilac/Purpley hair dude) has a gun tattoo on his right hand you can see this on this chapter and the rose with leave on his left shoulder, collar bone area. The thugs on the photo inspector Lane was looking at from Vincent's b'day had the same tattoos. Also the thugs on Ares street have the same tattoos, when Poppy goes to save Mr Lam. Maybe the roses with leaves may a symbol for Mama Quincey's clan and the guns are from Vincent's Balthuman clan. Also its so cute that Pinky seems to have got his black ear studs just to copy his big bro Tora. Likely done in the 8th grade after the classroom fight scene. Also Pinky & Purple seem to have dyed their hair to copy Tora dying his hair in his rebellious teenage phase. So cute!!! 🥰 Would love to know when Tora finally gave up and accepted his little thugling minions lol. Jealous, protective, sulking Tora is so HOT 🔥! Honestly Pinky is melting my heart with his shy blushing 🥰🥰 - he just doesn't know how to chat up girls. Confident Erdene was so hot to see - also loved how she noticed Tora staring at Poppy and got the hint straight away. Quincey the cupid fairy godmother protecting Tora's rep in front of the ladies making sure nothing gets in the way of Tora's love life was so amazing to see - loved how quickly he whisked the boys away + told them to behave. 🤣

So who is the thuglet with the black eye beside Gyu when the other baby thugs are saying they’ll beat up Tora if he rejects them? He got beat up with Gyu so he’s gotta be someone they thought they could bully into introducing them to Tora. At first I thought Goliath pre-blue hair but this is clearly years after we already saw him with the blue. This is when Pinky and friends started following Tora in the 8th grade. Tora looks around 18 at this point. Goliath looks younger than Tora but not by that much. I also love how we now know that Gyu has known Tora since at least his 8th grade year. Gives us more information about their friendship. I also love how Tora appears to complain about the idea of taking these thuglings under his wing but he obviously did it anyway and he’s still got them with him after all these years.

My head canon has told me Tora really wanted blue hair but Goliath picked that color first and so he spent a lot of time experimenting with different colors. But non of them looked right so he gave up and grew it out his natural color.
