Just popping in with an update <3

First off, the next Secret Garden for "A Little Thief" will be posted tomorrow instead of today, in case anyone's been waiting (I've gotten a nice MPL work rhythm going on right now, and I'm gonna run with for a bit more). Next, I thought I'd talk a bit about what's been going on during my hiatus.

I'm a little over 1.5 months into my break now, and though I've been working on MPL, a lot of it has been the more relaxing stuff like working on the foundation and doing the groundwork for Season 2. I've never been one for 'leading the team' in my past jobs, and I was really a typical 'Type B personality' kind of worker, and I preferred to let others do the thinking and planning, lol. Ironically, in the process of seeking more freedom by becoming an indie comic creator, I'm now in the project management role I've been dodging for years 😂 Surprisingly though, I'm enjoying it quite a bit, and more surprisingly, I've realised that I'm actually pretty good at this project management stuff. Definitely not as shitty at it as I thought I was, lmao. Anyway, I've mostly been thinking of more ways to optimise the communication system and project workflow within our team, making sure everyone's happy and comfortable with the pace and workload, figuring out what areas can be improved on without killing any of us over it, and all that glamorous stuff.

Now that most of the groundwork is out of the way, I'm gearing up to get back to the real work again. I'm definitely experiencing a huge resistance to it, which is a thing I hate about long breaks - it's really hard to get that momentum going again. And while a nice long break is undeniably good and necessary for mental and health wellbeing, there are a number of underlying fears - for me at least - that come with the territory. Things like - what if I can't perform anymore? What if work gets too tough and I burn out too quickly? What if my 'muse' leaves and never comes back again? What if I forget how to write MPL, and lose my connection with the story and characters? Or the worst one of all - what if I get bored and stop enjoying what I do? Since I've started making comics, these are fears I encounter every single time I take a break, and it is honestly not very fun.

On the bright side though, I definitely feel refreshed and rejuvenated again. The 'resistance' usually disappears soon after I get back to work, so I'm not too worried about that, although I'm VERY mindful in pacing myself to make sure I don't burn out or get mentally overwhelmed, which is a very real thing, and a pretty rough experience for me. In any case, these 'fears' are mostly my brain making shit up, and I absolutely believe in taking control of my life without letting my thoughts run (or ruin, lol) everything, so it's business as usual for me again.

That pretty much sums up the last few weeks for me. Thanks for reading my ramblings, because sometimes just typing it out, and letting others know what you feel about stuff, can be pretty cathartic 💜💜 I'll be posting updates on MPL very soon since I'm officially starting production work again, and I'll see you guys again 💕

Thank you for the share Lily ❤️ It was very vulnerable and really appreciate the openness and found myself relating to you on a few levels. I admire you for what you’re doing! Looking forward to the post tomorrow 🥰

Myosotis

Girl I have all of these fears each time I take a break. I feel so connected. Don't worry about all of this. If it happens that MLP doesn't go well for you anymore, I'll follow you in any new comics you'd do and I'm.pretty sure I'm.not the only one

EmeryDiLoncrete

I'm glad you're well and feel rejuvenated. Thank you for always being awesome and sharing your thoughts with the horny squad. Keep up keeping up! Happy new year! ❤️❤️❤️

I’m glad you’re back. I usually don’t comment on these forums, in them. I have really bad social anxiety. I just wanted to tell you, I don’t think you’ve forgotten anything, you’ll be just as amazing at MPL as you were before. No, dare say, better because you’ve taken the time you needed for in order to not burn out. I’ll read anything you put out into the world for us to read. I love your art style, your story, your character development and everything else. Thank you for keeping me, us entertained. For that, I joined your Patreon about a year ago, now. I have zero regrets. You are amazing, thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Kamy

I’m interior Designer based in UK and know exactly how you feel about resistance, fear of not performing and burn outs. Except believing in yourself I found out that taking vitamin D and Magnesium helps a lot, really saved me to be honest. Some times out mind and body needs a bit of help and not only words of support:-)

MissT

Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us. It's good to hear you are refreshed and finding new joy in things that used to scare you. I have full confidence the break will be exactly what you needed, and you'll return to you work stronger and more centered than ever. 💖💖💖💖

Eva

Proud of you Lily 💕💕💕

Leslie

Proud of you and glad you’re enjoying your rest. Fingers crossed for a continued workflow that serves you. I can hardly imagine the pressure you must be under, especially as your platform grows, but you’ll always have us here, ready to lose every last blessed marble over every single panel you produce. Your hype squad appreciates you and believes in you!

Sami

Thank you for the update! I'm glad you are taking time to rest and I hope it's been beneficial 💜 and I'm happy to hear you're getting back at the grind. I know sometimes it can be unsettling returning after an extended break, but I'm confident you'll find your rhythm and push forward 😁💜

Mary Austin

Yay glad to hear your break has you well rested and motivated! Can't wait to see what ideas you've come up with! 😁💖

Sonjante

First of all I think you are so good at project managing now because you handle a project that is very important to you and not just any office job. And concerning your diffifulties and insecurities to start working after a long break I can totaly relate to that. I am a primary school teacher and I really love my job. I have a good connection to my children and get a lot of positive feedback from parents and colleagues. But every year after the summer hollidays (they last for 6 weeks in germany) I am absolutely terrified to start working again. I always have the feeling that I somehow forgot how to teach or I am afraid that the children wont connect with me anymore and how did I usually organise my lessons anyway? But every year, five minutes into the first period with my class I feel so at home and everything falls into place quite naturally. Of course its still stressfull and there are times I am kind of overwhelmed by the amount of work and responsibility that comes with the job but in the end it always works out somehow. So I wish you all the best for overcoming your "back-to-work" fears and look forward to all the visual goodies you will have in store for us in season two. Lots of Love!

Darla (Tora’s THOT)

So I’m up wayyyyyyy too early....I think dehydration got to me, but you’re gonna do amazing I’m sure! Your fears are valid and I totally get it, but you have soooo much to work with! I hope you don’t get tired or bored of it! 😬😬😬 anyway I’m sure you’re doing a great job with planning and project management.... I’ll be looking forward to SG... I have an important meeting with my boss and I just freaking know it’s gonna update when I’m talking about year end stuff and then imma lose my train of thought cause I SEE PATREON UPDATE!!!!!!! Well I might not be able to read it til I’m off work anyway I rather take my Time than rush it!!! Ok I’m going back to bed! Thank you for updating us!! ❤️❤️👍

CoCoPuff_BB

Thank you for the update you're awesome! And I think it's good you're self aware and you're pacing yourself

Green Eyed Soul

Isn’t that every authors, painters and creators fear? But the way I see it it’s nothing bad. It only shows that you want it to be good! And if you won’t keep on practicing your skills every day (drawing, creative process), your skills will definitely suffer and you become rusty. I’ve experienced this first hand. Due to lockdown in Germany I rarely talk to people and sometimes I do feel like I talk like a toddler. So fears are nothing bad! They push us to be at our best if we don’t want to lose it. Also the more responsibility you hold the more you’ll grow into it if you really enjoy what you are doing. So it’s good that you are slowly finding your way back into your story 😊 Sometimes you gotta push yourself a little bit please not too hard!

Ashley

🥰🥰 thanks for sharing! Glad you’ve been able to get some much needed R&R!

Leonie Raines

Thank you for being open about how you feel and your process. It helps on many different levels. 🙂 Excited for this new year, fresh you, and new season. ❤️

Jiji

I'm very happy for you to read that. It's very important to be self aware and to find solution. You know you better than enyone and I think your break really help you see what your are really capable of! I'm sincerely happy for you! Take care of yourself 😘

Zlata Kelembet

Lily, thank you a lot for the update! It is very nice to hear that you have rested well and enjoyed your free time. I do think though that every break helps you get your muse back, not otherwise. Once you start the work I am sure you will be even more inspired to continue than before. 😁 Don't let the bad thoughts get to you and enjoy the new start! 😊

Ester-bean

Thanks for the update! I'm a project manager myself :) It's rough sometimes (maybe most of the time lol) but the pay off is amazing. We worry, strategize and plan over and over again, but in the end we have a successful project delivery and a proud team. Switching gears between project management and execution is a tough one too. I can't speak about it the context of art, but in a scientific field the mental transition takes a beat. You'll get there! And I will too. One step at a time and one ice cream binge at a time 😅🍨💙

Jen Jen

So happy for you Lily! And very excited about updates. I definitely understand the fear of burn out and losing your muse / interest / passion for your art. I think it's a fear we all have when we make a career out of doing what we love. I put aside my own craft after pushing waayyy too hard at the end of 2019, and I was scared that I'd never feel that pull to create again. I'm finally starting to feel it and am getting back in my groove, sometimes things just take time and a long break. I think we all just want you to be happy and healthy, so that you can continue to create and enjoy what you do. Because we all love what you do and will be here for you any time you need a break. Very excited to for SG and S2 updates 💛

bdust

Hey, all creators go through the same fears. Don't sweat it. You haven't lost yourself, your talent, your characters, or your fans. That's just worry talking. Take your time and enjoy your break. :)

Latoya Doyle

You're amazing.🥰 Keep taking those deep calming breaths and let your creativity flourish. Love your work. 😍

Erin S.

Girl, as that same "type B" worker myself, I get that so much! But glad you've had a chance to get the time off you've wanted and needed (this year of all years!) And as a lifelong procrastinator, kudos to you for being able to manage your time proactively and recognize your own hangups and hurdles before they get in your way!

💕author eurydice fiori 💕

yeah, I can definitely relate when it comes to my current schoolwork! I finished one class (thank God!) and now I can just focus on one without wasting all of my energy! (not to mention how writing my eroticas has certainly helped 😂) anyways, I know for sure that creating artwork is NO easy task because now I'VE started doing it for the class I'm taking! 😩😆 my best advice is to keep doing what you're doing: PACE YOURSELF and take care of YOU first! ♥️

Sara

I appreciate you and everything you do.

Linden

Yay! So glad you're feeling more rested. Coming back from a break for any job is always hard and anxiety inducing. But you're doing the right thing by being aware and pacing yourself. You're incredible! Very excited to see our favorite couple soon, but happy you've also taken some time for you too

Courtney

We love you, but take your time. Pace yourself, you dont have to rush for us. Your health is more important. Your story is so good. You're are not going to loss us.

Emily Basso

Typing out all my feelings helps me immensely, and hopefully this felt like at least part of the weight is now off your shoulders from just saying it. I’m always so thankful when you share these fears or musings, because it’s such a common feeling and I think we all worry about similar things. But hearing others struggles makes it seem less scary for us all. But if you ever start to feel less enthusiastic about MPL, or need an extra spark, you know we are more than happy to hype you up 😂🤓 I think talking about a story, and your ideas, and seeing peoples reactions is a great way to feel alive again. To feel that connection. I sometimes think it sounds egotistical to want to go off on how excited I am about something I thought up, but it always helps me out and fuck my brain 🤣 overthinking is a bitch. My friends are always excited along with me and it’s only in my own head I feel insecure. And your story is so inspired, evocative, and beautiful that we will never have a hard time hanging on your every word. So I hope the next phase goes smoothly, and we are here to listen and exclaim over everything when you’re ready ❤️❤️❤️ you go kick some MPL ass! (Or spank. Whatever moves you 😏)

Schkaka

I feel you about all the burnout and fears. You do so well at everything you thought you couldn't do or avoided because you have your heart and soul into it and bless you for that. Your art is amazing! So keep on taking care of yourself❤. Love all you do Lilly.

Lx

Appropriate your vulnerability when you share here. I hope things continue to go well and you continue to practice positive thinking to push through fearful thoughts.

PhantomDingo

Thank you so much for sharing that with us, and I'm so, so glad you've been able to take the time you needed to really recharge. I know these thoughts can be so hard to move past, but we'll always be here for you and the story, and I'm so grateful for this incredible world you've created and the beautiful art that you share with us! Thank you so, so much. ❤️❤️❤️

Maggie Blomgren

You’re transparency is very honorable! You have created such a wonderful comic that people all over the world get to enjoy! You have captivated the hearts and minds of so many people. MPL is the reason I started on webtoon and got to open up into all of these wonderful comics! Please be kind to yourself during this process. You have an exceptional fan base who will always understand what you need, and be there for you! We all love you! 💕💟

CouchCrumbs

Your work is amazing!! Being fearful means you’re doing something good ♥️ I always like to think when we experience those feelings, it’s our way of pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone and into the hard, tough, and fun stuff - depending on how you look at it 😉

Ekey Azani

I'm so hooked up to MPL because someone recommend them on tik tok. Your comic motivated me to get back to drawing which I've stope doing a long time ago and turns to writing stories instead. Can't get enough of Tora, I've been reading MPL more then 5 times this week! 😆 We all agreed that we do have a lil' crush on Tora!

B00kie

You are reflecting so much on yourself and you know yourself the best 💙 that's admirable. And just the fact that you actually know your fears will support you further in not giving into them. And even though being too wary can be counterproductive it seems like you have found a great middle way. In all honesty lily, I really have been admiring you a lot because you are so open and easy going with your feelings. I love that you see new sides to yourself and that you feel good. I love that you are having fun at work and that you are positive about finding your rhythm again after the break. A content author makes a content reader most of the times. So thank you for the heads up, your honesty and your hard work. We appreciate u and that wonderful brain of yours that thought of such a lovely story ✨

Rachel Luehr

If your happy, we’re happy! I’m so excited to see what you have in store for the upcoming season

Theresa

Hi Lily dusk, It's brilliant that some things are going well! 🙂 Thank goodness! You can do ... whatever you want to do! Love Theresa

Victoriaaatoons

Happy New Year Lily! Thank you for this update and being vulnerable to share your fears and struggles as a creator and a project manager. This is definitely not something you are experiencing alone. Keep pushing through it! 💕 Excited to see what you’ve got planned for Season 2 😊

SOPHIA A

Thank you for your insight into your fears. I think we all have those fears at some point in our life.

Matcha_Cakes

Thank you for the update Lily! Excited for all these changes you’ve put in place for you an the team! Looking forward to what you have in store for us! 😄 Balance is so so hard! I feel like we artists sometimes have a mentality of it’s either go or no, you sharing your experience is inspiring me to get out of my no phase.

larosamorada

I'm probably just echoing what everyone else has said (my brain is still waking up...yay allergy meds 😅), but I'm so happy you took that time off to rest. You were basically working round the clock for two years, so of course you needed a lengthy break. Also, I think what you're going through is tremendous growth emotionally and vocationally. While it's awesome, but just like starting physical exercise, it's gonna make you feel tired. There are gonna be days where you lose motivation and question "why am I doing this?" or "what if I don't like it anymore?" Truth be told, our brains don't like change, so just like you identified... these thoughts will pop up to get you to maintain the status quo. But like you said, they're just thoughts, they don't go anywhere without your action and decision. 💜💜 I'm excited that you're enjoying this new chapter as a project manager and finding fulfillment through leadership, that's huge! 💜💜 I can't wait to see what y'all come up with and I know it's gonna be just as amazing, and probably more so! 🥰🥰

Irene A

You rock, Lily. You are amazing and an inspiration!

Shari Goecke

Love the transparency! And, as always, I look forward to your work! Kind of nice to see that those creating these comics go through what I do every weekend before going back to work! Lol jk hj

Zlata Kelembet

Hey girls, I just wanted to ask one thing. Before the last episode of MPL Season 1 was issued, I was only subscribed to MPL on Webtoon. Now, a month later, I have over 20 comics I am subscribed to. Is this only my problem, or everybody is going through this right now? 😂 The problem is I sometimes get lost in what I am subscribed to and when the new episode pops-up, it takes me some time to understand, what exatly it is. And I still keep searching for more to fight my thurst for MPL. 😅

jozimart making Under The Eclipse

This resonates so well with me (I work in game development but similarly I dodged project management for a long time and in the end I ended up leading a small group of people on features I'm in charge of ... which is more enjoyable than I thought it would be 🤣). I'm happy to hear that you have gotten some rest and recharged your energy. I'm sure when you get into the headspace of the characters and the story that you'll be inspired to work on it again... it just takes a bit of work getting into a good routine. No matter what, I'm looking forward to what you'll be working on and patiently wait for you to be ready to show it 😁🧡

Colleen Moore

This is how I feel every time I start a new series. It’s so hard get that momentum moving in the right direction again and somehow I forget that I can in fact do this thing that I love. Somehow I forget how much better my brain feels when I’m with my characters and begin to think I won’t be able to get back into it. So I guess I’m saying you’re not alone? And the last year has been bonkers enough to take all of our resilience reserve to zero. I’m so glad you’ve found the space and time to rejuvenate. One of my goals for 2021 is to work out that systemic organization so I save myself some churn when I publish.

Amy Crumbaugh

If it’s any consolation, I think most artists encounter those fears more often than they would like to admit. What if I can’t get back into my groove? What if I’ve lost my love for this? Will everyone notice if it’s...different? I’ve felt all of these worries and all of your worries, as well. But you’re not just an artist: you’re a hard worker, and that makes all the difference. You’ll be able to push through the doubts and find your rhythm again.

Fallow

I'm curious-how many people are in your MPL team?

Mykala Kearney

We are here for you Lily. Vent to us whenever. Your feelings are valid and I just hope you find that happy place where you have all your shit figured out. Lol. It definitely seems like you are headed in that direction with all that boss bad bitch energy you are giving off ;)

Terezije Mitrović

Your relaxation is well deserved 😊 and feel free to get things off your chest whenever you need to! We're all here for you 💖

Ezra V

Awww yay! I’m happy that your break is going well😁 I remember reading somewhere that anxiety happens when you think you need to figure out everything at once. the best thing you can do is breath and take it day by day ☺️ you’re doing a wonderful job! It’s nice to share your fears out loud rather than have them manifest themselves in your head, you give them less power that way 😁💕

Ana Ortiz

just take your time lily! ik thoes are just natural fears of yours, trust me, everyone has them. but do know that no matter what you out out, we’re bound to love it! just go with your guts about what you think is right and it will all play out right! cant wait to see ya come back🖤🖤

Cherie

Very happy to hear that you’re feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I’m probably just repeating what others have already said, but you’re very talented and, while I understand the fears you’re grappling with, I have no doubt that you’ll continue to excel at your craft. 加油, you can do it! 💪🏼😘

jessmwoodward

I really like these updates - thank you for sharing them. ❤️

Tori Hopps

Give yourself as many breaks and treats as possible! It’s the hardest to be forgiving of ourselves when we feel like we’re not motivated, so be nice to yourself 🖤 and congratulations on being a great project manager! As someone who has poor management at the moment, I can tell you without even knowing the inner-workings of production that you are appreciated! Focus on the wins and treat yourself when you’re feeling low – even if it’s a 15 min break after one line of line work? You know what I’m sayin 😅Cheering you on!

ShiftyRacoon

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Ruthie

I totally understand it being hard to jump back in again. I struggle with this every Monday morning 😅 Although I miss MPL, I’m glad you’re focusing on yourself. Self-doubt is an interesting beast. Even the most successful people have it. It’s human nature. Whenever I have it, I tell myself that’ll I’ll do my best. If it doesn’t work out, I promise myself to pick up something else. That’s the beauty of life, it’s never stagnant.

Titou MB

Lily, you make an incredible job. It's amazing that you share your fears with your readers. And it's a extraordinary experience to witness this part of creation of our beloved story. Maybe you already have some micro hiatus in your week in order to take a new breathe. If that's not the case, maybe you could imagine some moment just for you, as a person, and not just as Lilydusk. Again and again, Take Care. Your work make our lifes more beautiful. In fact, reading MPL IS that moment I give to myself as a rest time in my week. Thank you sooooo much. <3

Pam 701

So glad you’ve had a good break! Just know you have a lot of fans and supporters who are cheering you on!

Kim

Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy by being so critical of ourselves. Just recognise it for what it is and keep going. You got this👍

Toni

I feel this way, too. You inspire me to get up and try to return to art, despite my shortcomings due to a long (see years) break. You are doing great.

Sarah T

Thank you for sharing! You’re doing a great job, and don’t believe that voice of anxiety. Anxiety is literally making conspiracy theories about yourself! The conspiracy theories are not true! But do take care of yourself and listen to your emotions when you’re feeling like you are getting burned out. Your fans are here to support you!

IcingQuinYang2

I know the feeling. Just like me if I don't exercise for 5 days is hard to push myself to start but then I do. Then another challenge is starting to exercise and get those steps in. But your creativeness is a panacea to my tired mind and I'm patiently waiting for you to share your brilliance once more. You're over of a kind and will always have my support.

Deserrai Beversdorf

I relate to the long breaks and how hard it is to come back. I took a hiatus from my business (photography) as well. It was suppose to be a couple months only but it’s been 4 years now 😬🙃

Sarah Hernandez

Lily you're amazing and you have all of our support👍❤️

Lise

You will break through your resistance like a champ! ♥️ I’m a fiction writer, and I encounter the same fears and resistance until I get myself wedged back into the right routine.

lily_ofthevalley

I understand all those nagging fears and that feeling of coming back to creative work after a long break, but ive noticed once you get in your rhythm again, your new work will be even better than you could have imagined. Sending you positive vibes and can't wait for an amazing season 2!

Paige

Sooooo excited!!! I’ve definitely experienced what you’re going through, it’s always getting back into the groove that’s the hardest part, but once you’re in it, you can’t imagine doing something else. You’ve got this !!

Christina Agan

Glad to hear you’re taking your time and relaxing a bit. Lord knows you deserve it. Take care!

MadTeaCat_86

I appreciate artists that take time to care for themselves. Don’t be afraid.... it’s human to have these fears but any Gift such as yours will never fade due to self care.

Jm

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us updates. I am glad you have been taking some time to rest and relax!

Natalie

You won't hear any complaints from me. Love your work.

Mairi

Keep working hard!!

Allison Scott

Thanks so much for your honesty about the creative process and the fears that arise when taking a break! It’s so refreshing to hear. Have you developed any routines or rituals to break you out of those negative thought loops? Or do you just sort of white-knuckle it and muscle you’re way back into the groove of creating?

Veronica Alvarado

ON I JUST JOINED PATREON TO GET THIS UPDATE ON MPL

common_coffee_grounds

Thank you so much for granting us the pleasure of joining you in this journey. I can only imagine what this means for you, and it means a lot to me too. reading MPL has gotten me through a really rough patch in my life right now, and it’s still getting me through. I reread the first season when I’m feeling like nothing feels right. And it’s so comforting to read, and supporting you here on Patreon makes life a little easier. Thank you. For the absolute joy and small bouts of emotional security your art and storyline brings me.

ShadiShad

Yeeesss !! Thanks to you and all your team for your intense and wonderful work 👏🏽👏🏽
