If I remember correctly heels were created in France to help noblemen hide that they were in elevated shoes. And then made too thin on women's shoes to ensure extra sway in the un-natural foot position. As many have said they make calf muscles look good but that is because your not extending them properly. Long history doesn't mean its a good convention.

That's just true about alot of historical things, even ones that aren't as old. It's just funny to think that some men felt they needed to hide their shortness but it does make sense with how people were back then.
