a very good episode! minus some small gripes I’ll mention after the series ends but the Bonnie backstory is so interesting to include so late into the series but I love what that allowed for the writers to do in terms of world-building

this episode totally recontextualizes pb and her skewed morals in the earlier seasons, at least for me. she was a child who grew up alone in a nuclear wasteland (except for neddy, who she had to protect). everything she learned, everything she now knows, she had to teach herself. she has lived for hundreds of years, seen so many screwed up things in all that time, it’s no wonder she went a little crazy trying to protect her people who she loved so dearly. her development, like you said, is incredible. so many people just regard her as an “evil dictator” but she is so, so much more than that simplification. the punchbowl was in one of the really early episodes of the show, maybe even the first episode

Julio Castillo

This episode has a lot of enviromental storytelling... if you pay close attention to the interior of that Gas Station from 800 years ago you will find a very interesting and sad story. So... even tho the ambition wasn't exactly the same.... Uncle Gumbald is pretty much the one who had the idea of a "Candy Nation", which of course Bubblegum then took a made her own as the "Candy Kingdom". Yep, this episode explains a lot of stuff.... and i also adore the inclusion of Bonnie's "Boyfriend" Mr. Creampuff, who in case you don't remember... is actually the oldest piece of lore we had in the series.... In episode 1 of Season 1 (Slumber Party Panic) in the very first scene... we see Finn assisting Bonnibel in her experiment of bringing back the dead, and the very first test subject is Mr. Creampuff (or what remains of him)... to which Bonnie mentions "We used to date" to Finn. Not only that but in the episode "The Vault" from Season 5 (the one where we met Finn's past live Shoko) we see Mr. Creampuff when he was still alive, and Bonnie once again mentions "Except for Mr. Creampuff, he's like my boyfriend" to Shoko. And there you go.... now we know what happened to the very first Candy Citizens, Aunt Lolly became Manfried the talking Piñata (who was also present in the very first episode of the show), Cousin Chicle became Crunchy (which explains Crunchy's tendency to want to become the Ruler of the Kingdom). Yes, we have seen the Punch-bawl...... several times, specially during the first seasons. And the most imporant thing.... this episode finally explains why Bubblegum is so paranoid, always wanting to have everything under control... because her own family betrayed her when she was (technically) still a kid.

We had seen all of the characters before. Manfried the Talking Piñata (aka Aunt Lolly) - We first saw them aaaaaallll the way back in the very first episode of the series "Slumber Party Panic" towards the end I believe. Punch Bowl (aka Uncle Gumbald) - First introduced to him in Season 1 Episode 5 "The Enchiridion!" at the very beginning during the party. Fun bit of trivia when speaking as Punch Bowl he's voiced by Mark Hamill" Crunchy (aka Uncle Chicle) - This one you've obviously remembered as Crunchy has more speaking roles than the other two. He also has the distinction of being the only one not introduced in Season 1. He doesn't actually appear in the show until Season 4 Episode 20 "You Made Me" which you might remember as the second appearance of Lemongrab and the episode that results in Lemongrab 2 being created.
