I think you might have missed it but Pappag said that human trafficking is really common in this area (not just mermaids) and there are lots of kidnappers. Important for this arc!

By the way... you probably don't remember Mikey... but a while ago i gave you a summary of one of Oda's Cover Stories in the Manga called "Hatchan's Sea-Floor Stroll", which was technically the Debut of Camie and Pappag... as they were side characters in Hachi's journey back to Fishman Island after he escaped the Marines who captured him and the rest of the Arlong Pirates (he was the only one who escaped). No Mikey, Mermaids don't need water to survive, they can breath both water and air, same as Fishmen. I thought that was clear with Kokoro xddd. Kokoro explained that when a Mermaid or Merman turns 30 (which is presumably when they reach full maturity) their fish tail splits into 2, giving them the ability to walk on land as if they had humans legs. And as we saw with Kokoro herself... they can still merge the 2 halves into one and swim like a normal Mermaid when they want to. And Camie is only 16 years old at this point, which explains why she can only hop on her tail right now.

In the dub, it's pretty explicitly pronounced "Sah-bo-oh-dee", but I guess that's just a localization thing. That said, I think One Piece might have taught me how to pronounce archipelago. XD
