Yep that is how the original show ended, what an insane ending. As an episode itself this episode was amazing, I loved the commentary and the character redesigns of the characters as humans. But at the time it was airing, as a fan myself, it was a bit sad that this was the SERIES FINALE, basically leaving off on a literal cliffhanger. One thing me and many people were upset about within these last few episodes of the show was the lack episodes surrounding the family since they are an essential part of the show. It was strange that the only family member to be focused on in the last episodes of the show was mainly Richard, but no Anais or Nicole which felt odd. Also Banana Barabara’s painting from ‘The Oracle’ never got around to actually come true which was a tad disappointing. But now that we have the wonderfully weird world, ive come around to this episode more. Since the show’s ending gumball has been in this weird state before season 7/ the wonderfully weird world was announced. The show creator, Ben Bocquelet, said himself he didn’t want to end the series the way it did. Cartoon Network went ahead to create some gumball miniseries which are basicallly clip shows of previous episodes with some small bits of flavor here in there with some character interactions, but other than that, they’re just clip shows. The initial plan was basically to have the ending tie into the amazing world of gumball MOVIE, which was announced to be in development all the way back in 2021, they would also confirm that a new series will follow after the movie. But after the infamous WB Merger, plans were changed, and supposedly the film was dropped. It is uncertain if the movie is still in production or not, but we wouldn’t get any major gumball news until this year with the release of The new gumball series, which had the first 20 episodes launched on Hulu in July (and airing the episodes on tv in October). With the second half of the season airing soon in December, this year. I will say, even though Gumball has been gone for a couple of years, after watching some of the newest episodes of Gumball Season 7, they’ve still got the charm. It honestly felt like gumball hasn’t left at all. Thank you for checking out this show, it’s so awesome to see people truly admire this show for what it is able to accomplish from the wide variety of animation, the comedy, the music, composition, character dynamics, it’s meta-narrative, commentary, etc. I love your reactions dude, your commentary and appreciation for small details is why I continue to support you. I’ll be looking forward to your Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball reactions, going through this show again has been a ride!

Yes that's how it ended us poor fans waited 6 years for a new season. I do admire the writing though like it's so bold to end a show that way lmao

Yup, that's what we were left with for 7 years. Well, technically. There were 2 miniseries, Darwin's Yearbook and The Gumball Chronicles, which were essentially clipshows framed around new plots/scenes alongside some lore drops and tidbits (which I would recommend watching) but apart from that, that was the end of the original run. Though Ben Bocquelet has said he didn't want for it to end the way it end, but things out of their control unfortunately lead to such an ending. A few years after the series ended a movie and new series were announced, with the original plan being the Movie to resolve the cliffhanger of this episode, then Season 7 to continue from where it left off, but HBO dropped the movie so Season 7 was moved ahead and changed slightly to work around it. Ben has confirmed multiple times throughout the last few years that the movie is still being worked on though, albeit with rewrites from what was originally planned.
