Escape from L.A. has to be one of my favorite penultimate episodes of the series. Nice detail with how the episode began with a classic sitcom intro theme because Bojack isn't in his show anymore, he is in Charlotte's show now I love the usage of 'Escape From Reality' theming the episode uses. Bojack coming to New Mexico is in itself an escape from his life. And when he does, it feels like a classic sitcom with tropes and all. Bojack fully embraces this life because we know before he loves sitcoms, where at the end of every episode, things go back to normal, where everything can be happy. That's the life Bojack wants to live. Bojack believes he can change just by traveling somewhere new, but just like what Charlotte said to Bojack at the campfire, he is the tar pit; he can go wherever he may please, but wherever he goes, he will still be Bojack Horseman. Another little detail I like. When Bojack mentions the balloons to Charlotte, she points out how bad it is for the environment. This kind of reflects how Charlotte has changed and matured over time, while Bojack, still being the same person he was all those years ago, thinks of the balloons as nostalgic and something fun without thinking about the repercussions. 'What are you doing here?' This line is a callback to the first episode of the season, when bojack couldnt deliver the line correctly because he wasn't depressed. It sounds much more real than how he did during the set since he just got hit with the cold, hard reality after trying to be happy in this 'escape' from his life. Bojack and Penny's scene near the end of the episode has to be one of the worst things we've seen him do in the show at this point. All that talk of him trying to be mature, by refusing her and being completely aware that she's a child. But the second he gets denied by Charlotte, he immediately turns back to Penny, which is extremely gross and disgusting of him to do. We've seen Charlotte be nice to Bojack the entire time throughout the episode, but like she said she doesnt really know who Bojack is, even after spending two months living together. It's no wonder that the confrontation scene hits just as hard when she tells him to leave, saying she'll fucking kill him. This is the second time the word 'fuck' has been used in the whole show so far. The little montage at the end is perfectly done too, because like all paradises or dreams, at some point you have to return to reality. There are so many more details you can catch by rewatching this episode, which just goes to show how masterful the writing is on this show.

Stressful episode when you already know what is coming lol

Dre

“I am so disappointed in him” yeah… that scene near the end is so damn hard to watch.

Eve

I know some people may think he had no way to push off Penny but just earlier in the episode he had no problem forcing Pete to do what he wanted, so clearly Bojack is more than capable of telling a teenager what to do. I do love what he did at the very end was so bad we totally forget that he made teenagers drink a stronger drink than they brought, tried to get the driver to drink, and forced a kid to lie for him after one got dangerously poisoned. We don't even know if she lived!

Steelburgh

Heyyyy, that shark behind you has boobs.

In less than 30 seconds after BoJack tells Charlotte he keeps making bad decisions and hurting people, he's kissing her and the final escalation begins. Having just sent a teen to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. This is BoJack Horseman; the tar pit he carries with him and drags everyone around him in to.
