Season 2 is off to such a crazy start, Boba Fett's back (kinda) and Tatooine continues to be filled to the brim with nightmares!! Really enjoyed getting a deeper look at the Tuskens too and actually seeing people work with them!

Its not really a sidestep, its to introduce new characters and to reveal boba fett is alive. Also character building.

What a great opening, so many bombshells. Boba survived! Oh wait no that's someone else, so where's Boba? The Tusken narrative is so sad to me. They are essentially a commentary on colonialism, it is important to remember they were the original inhabitants of Tatooine. They are perceived as savages as they are not as technologically advanced as the settlers who moved in and forced them from their settlements into the Dune Sea. They are actually quite a domesticated race though, as seen here. They made peace and only threatened to raid the town again if they broke the peace. It is therefore implied, however horrible it is, that Shmi's husband aggravated them, most likely through his farming, and hence they retaliated. They are presented that way there as Anakin is the hero so when he's slaughtering people, even though he's slipping into darkness, we have to somewhat be able to root for him, however the Tusken's are not the simple savages initially presented. On a more positive note, the team up between Din, Cobb, the Tuskens and the villagers was so cool to see, common differences bringing people together. The way Din killed the dragon was so cool, it could've gone so wrong but him being him, it was times just right! Cobb willingly giving up the Mandalorian armour is so important as we have seen others go to extreme lengths to get their hands on beskar, he's a pretty chill guy. And then the end the man in the cloak from the end of the last episode on Tatooine revealed as BOBA FETT!!!!!!! Can't wait for you to get deeper into this season it is definitely my favourite chapter of the Mandoverse

True but I still feel it deviates from the main plot of finding another Mandalorian to find a Jedi, the episode is still great though, but I think it’s best described as Mando going on a Side Quest to build to other things.

This was a really fun start to the season and while not heavy on plot stuff, was just really cool in everything it did, especially with giving Boba back to us!! The thing with the Tuskens is that they are still an aspect of Storytelling and when they were first introduced, they were shown as monsters or the thing the audience needs to fear, while the colonial commentary may have been present from conception it was not made clear during they’re defining moments, relegating them to savages through the only things we see them do. I really like the attempt here to show them in better light and actually fix this narrative but it’s very difficult to pull off considering what their first impression is, it works well here as it shows them getting along well with others and I think it’s a great start, I only hope we can see this go further as their presence and roles in the OT and Prequels were very powerful and will take something equally powerful to combat as that’s just the nature of storytelling. What the audience sees sticks in our minds so when we see them again, we subconsciously associate them with these actions, but now thanks to this there are more positive associations to draw on. The entire fight scene with the dragon is so insane though! The action with the Jetpacks, the dragon in general, everything was just done so well and was such a joy to watch! Loved to see Cobb give up the armour willingly considering its value, really drove the point home about what Cobb values and having the Tuskens be the villages allies rather than their enemies mean the armour has no more use to him. Loved this reveal for Boba Fett!! Still raises so many questions about what he’s been doing this entire time, and I can’t wait to get my answers!
