This might be one of my favourite episodes this season and it's thanks to Mayfeld alone! Seeing how this developed and added to this character was just amazing but also loved the impact he had on Mando was just great to watch. But now, Gideon must pay!

Such a good episode. In some shows this type of thing where they break up the finale after the initiating conflict and final episode can be seen as filler but they did it so well here by giving a compelling story that makes sense, cause of course they need to know when Gideon is they can't just find him so it makes sense they'd have to get his coordinates somehow. I love what this did for Mayfield's character now he isn't just some evil one dimensional villain from Din's past but he is actually a compelling character with an emotional backstory which still triggers him in some ways. Seeing him go from a guy essentially making fun of the Mandalorian culture to now respecting Mando by "not seeing his face" is such a nice touch which was appropriately repaid with his "death in the explosion." Then we get to see Slave I back in action and oh my the seismic charge is music to my ears that sound was not heard by Star Wars fans since Episode 2 and now it's back 20 years later, such a nerdy thing to be excited about but I still love it 🤣. Then Mando taking Gideon's speach and throwing it back in his face was such a good callback to me, the expression in which they both delivered it was so different and it is obvious that Din will do anything to get him back. Can't wait to see your reaction to the finale and I assume you've already seen it at the time of this upload so I hope you didn't miss the post credit scene! 🤣

This Episode's definitely the unexpected Dark Horse & treat of the show where it starts off like "Alright Mayfeld we don't like you & you don't like us so let's get this over with and find Moff Gideon's Cruiser" then we quickly get wrapped up into a very deep & complex story just through Exploring Mayfeld alone, and his dialogue and shoots him up the Ranks for many fan's favourite Characters. I didn't expect to see him again I thought initially he was just a Fun One-off Bill Burr Cameo in Star Wars for that one Episode and I still loved it for that reason but then I saw they were bringing him back at the End of last Episode and I was like "Oohh him again?? Interesting but cool!" But they really had a proper idea for his character this time and they were already smart enough to Plant seeds by introducing him as an Ex-Imperial Sharpshooter that episode so he already had a little more going for him and now they have the opportunity & a good reason to use him again and not just because "It's Bill Burr Let's get him back again" He really stole the Episode with just starting out his usual self all kinda comedic and trying to make light of the situation even playfully teasing Cara just for giggles, then as the Episode progresses you start to see his worldview through his conversations with Mando in the Truck and see he's clearly no fan of any Galactic Order now since he's shifted to more of an Outsider since the Empire, and finally towards the end you start to realize the way he kinda acts like all the Laughs & "Comedy" is just part of his coping mechanism and how he sleeps at night after you realize what he lived through. When he saw his former Commander Valin it wasn't just "Crap he might recognize me" but it's literally one of the main Instigators of all his Trauma & most painful memory he was trying to bury and he didn't trust himself around him, but when Mando was in trouble he had to jump in and unfortunately got caught up in a nice "Casual" Conversation with Valin himself and suddenly it all came back up and became too much for him, you don't even need words it's all just in Mayfeld's facial expressions what's going on in his head. Hearing "Operation: Cinder" being brought up was a treat for Fans that had played the Games lol. For those that knew about it once that was name dropped you completely understood what Mayfeld was talking about and suddenly everything he was feeling was Justified. I'm glad someone told you about that thankfully, Operation Cinder was basically one of the Main Plots of the Story in the Game "Star Wars: Battlefront II" that came out in 2017 and was first introduced there so hearing it being brought up here was like a vindication for those that played through it there. Yeah pretty much what you said "Self-Destruct" is accurate enough, just the Empire's most petty way of saying "If we can't have it.. no one can!" a very sore loser mentality. At certain Imperial systems or planets occupied by them were "Innocent" looking Satellites in Orbit that suddenly transformed into Orbital Laser Satellites that sent destructive Burning lasers down at precise locations on the Planet Below blowing infrastructures and other "Important" Imperial places like Mayfeld said "A Whole city gone" and of course only the most "Loyal & dedicated" higher up imperials already knew the existence & nature of Operation: Cinder and were tasked with overseeing it when/if the time came like Lovely Mr Valin Hess here, whereas every other imperial had no clue this "failsafe" was in place until it went down. So basically all the Imperials stationed at the Capital City in "Burnin Konn" and innocents who just lived there had no idea what was about to happen and suddenly just burnt to a crisp so the Rebellion/New Republic couldn't have it or even just so it couldn't be "Free", The Empire had already lost but they just had to bring things down with them and "Sacrifice" more anyway "For the greater good" and after that Mayfeld really could understand & see clearly what the Empire really was and how his friends & "5-10 thousand people" just died for nothing like that while Valin this ep called those same dead people and imps "Heroes" and seeing him still celebrate it no regrets & still having that same mentality really triggered Mayfeld even more. Naboo was also a Target of Operation Cinder but thankfully in the Game's story you stop it from happening to that Planet thanks to General Leia when you temporarily go under her command which is a fun Mission lol. Unfortunately You & the Rebellion/New Republic couldn't save every Planet though which was a hard reality and in a way it's just nice that the game's Story & consequences carried over into the Show here where learning one of the Planet's you couldn't save in the Story had a direct impact on Mayfeld here. Then yes Seeing Boba use his "Seismic Charges" against the Tie Fighters just quite literally explodes Nostalgia in your face haha it being the exact same sound we heard all those years ago, it's nice that Lucasfilm still had that exact Sound effect still saved somewhere in their Studio computers. Boba's Firespray Gunship "Slave-1" is just a cool & unique Ship in General and here's hoping we see more of it going forward especially in his Show! Anyways we got Gideon's Coordinates, a good team and Din's Determination heading into Next Episode, Moff Gideon better hope he's Prepared!

Absolutely agree, I was super concerned when they said they were going to find Mayfeild with how it would impact the flow of the final but this episode was just insane, the espionage and team work was perfect and added so much to the overall narrative since this isn’t just about rescuing Grogu but also showing more of the people who are actually after him. Mayfield might be one of my favourite character of this show after this, the character work is just exceptional with how much got added to him and I’m still not over Bill Burr’s performance! So happy to see the Seismic charge again!! I remember loving that weapon in the OT so seeing it come back is the coolest thing ever! Mando’s speech at the end was perfect, the tables have turned and now Mando is coming, the expression on Gideon’s face said it all and it’s just so much fun to see how much the power dynamic has shifted since season 1. Don’t worry I caught the Post-Credit 😁

Honestly after this episode, Mayfield might be one of my favourite characters from this show, the character work alone with how much got added to him in his two appearances is just insane and the perspective of an Ex-Imperial is just super cool in general. Bill Burr’s performance was also unexpectedly amazing!! Given he’s a comedian I had no clue he could completely own a scene the way he did when talking to higher up in the canteen, but it was just so captivating watching the pain he wore in his face! The detail in his character is so amazing to think about as it was quite unnecessary for the plot but so welcome anyway. I think in general it’s awesome for worldbuilding just getting to see this Ex-Imperial and what they think of the current governance, and the complexity of them is partnered so well with Bill Burr’s comedy to add that first redeeming quality to someone an audience would initially have a bias against due to the Imperial ties, and then expanding on it so well into a comping mechanism to hide the pain he’s experienced. Finally it all comes out when he’s face to face with his past and does the most human thing and can’t contain it, taking out this man who caused the deaths of so many and ultimately completing a full character arc and allowing him to heal and move forward knowing his past can no longer control him. I still love how much lore is brought in from so many sources, books and video games keep getting tied in and make this whole story feel even bigger than before. Plus knowing more about this project now makes it the perfect thing to explore and Imperial, either it shows off the depths of their evil if they were okay with this massive self-destruct plan or shows the humanity with them by being confronted with the true Evil of the Empire and their own part in it. Makes sense that not every planet could be saved from this thing but it’s good to know that some managed to escape this considering how this plan must have been pretty secret and would have been implemented pretty much as soon as Palpatine was defeated. Ohhh the Seismic Charge was so wonderful to see!! Everything about it is amazing from the visuals of the Weapon, the sounds and the ship that launches them! Love that Lucasfilm was holding on to this sound effect as they must have known what hold this has on people’s memories and wanted to bring it back all this time. After all this, Mando almost feels too prepared 😂 Honestly wondering what on Earth Gideon can do when faced with this team!
