Really enjoying watching this arc unfold, all the points that have been set up are already coming together so well and it's so cool to think this is only the start of the show! Can't wait to see how the next episode will go and how Andor can get out of the mess he's created!

A lot of fun stuff this episode; one of my favorite things about Andor is how it spoon feeds just enough info to put stuff together without spelling it out. For example, in this episode we hear about an imperial mining disaster on Kenari (hence no adults), but the people in the crashed ships are wearing Separatist Alliance insignias. Is the Empire erasing the existence of the Separatists?

Completely agree! The way their building out these stories so far is phenomenal and keeps me on my toes as I try and navigate all the threads being woven. There are so many details throughout in both the writing and the visuals to fill in what’s going on and it makes it so rewarding when the dots finally connect! As for the Separatist erasure, I have to assume as much, ships never just fall out of the Sky in Star Wars, something definitely forced them to the ground!

The one thing that baffles me is how many people miss the fact that Cassian is basically a survivor of genocide. You might be one of the only reactors I know of that touched on the moment where Xan says that "everyone died" on Kenari, so many reactors just gloss over that moment or don't connect the dots. Whatever mining disaster happened that killed all the adults, it seemed to have occurred a few years prior to these flashbacks....since the children have an established hierarchy, and have hunting and scavenging schedules planned out. The moment this info was revealed I instantly had the flashback to Cassian saying in Rogue One that he "has been in this fight since he was 6 years old." I always assumed the "fight" was the rebellion, but since the Empire/Rebellion didn't exist when he was 6...he had to have meant his "fight" for survival and his "fight" against oppression. So it is reasonable to assume that Cassian was 6 when the disaster happened leaving only the tribe of young children. Before the Empire existed, it was the Republic, which was also doing horrible stuff. The only thing that changed between the regimes is that Palpatine gained more power, and he was unchecked by the Jedi due to Order 66. So it is no coincidence that the Republic was seemingly gouge mining and destroying Kenari, which is something the Empire is known for doing all across Star Wars shows and movies. Additionally, Kenari is seemingly a primitive planet, no technology of any kind except for the mining equipment, and then when there was a mining disaster that killed almost the entire population, they just abandoned the planet and left the children to fend for themselves....knowing that their mistake would never be found out. So imagine the trauma and hatred Cassian must have for the Empire....it makes sense that he is hiding where he is from because if the Empire knew a survivor of Kenari was out in the Galaxy, I would imagine they would try to silence him so he couldn't tell people what happened on his birth planet! Also...it makes sense for why he is trying so hard to find his sister after all these years...if you knew there were so few survivors of your home planet, you would be so desperate for that connection again. Think of everything Cassian lost when he was taken from Kenari...his lifestyle, his family, his language, his culture, his true name of Kassa, etc......just imagine how long it has been since Cassian spoke his native language....or woke up to hearing nature surrounding him ....everything that Cassian was has been stripped from him at the tender age of like 9 years old.

I’m so glad I caught this as this really adds to the trauma of this character in understanding how and when their fight began. Knowing his parents would have died before this due to the regimes of the galaxy leaving only the children which are then forced to live in a tribalistic society, fighting everyday to survive is so insane to think about and creates such an interesting character. Andor has to have one of the best motivations to fight the Empire in all of the Galaxy with what they’ve done to him, his people and his birth planet. I also really like that it was actually the Republic that caused the mining disaster and not the official Empire, I think it’s so easy to forget that Palpatine was still quite in control during the Clone Wars and the Republic was his play thing so this sort of thing was happening way before the Empire came about but the later always gets the reputation for these atrocities. I think I just really love what Kenari does for Andor’s character with how it builds him and what this makes him for the Empire, he’s essentially a giant lose end that can cause mass scrutiny of the Regime and can highlight some it’s great evils. The Empire mainly functions through the ignorance of the people accepting the small, good things it does and overlooking it’s bad stuff, so when things like this come to life it shakes it to its foundations, So Andor may be a relatively small character in the grans scheme of things but he has such tremendous power through this information. And then his sister, it’s not him just looking for a lost loved one but looking for a lost connection to his entire people! It’s so insane to think about the hole that would be in his heart created by the circumstances of his life but it’s so clear to see how desperate it would make him to find this last survivor to piece himself back together after everything he’s lost.
