AMNESIA. PROGRESS REPORT | SUPER ALEX on Patreon

Just

I voted for Free Roam, but I don't want to see it be like Lucky Mark, which was a very painful grind, one of top two games for painful grinding in my experience. If the free roam is going to be like Lucky Mark, then no free roam please. That was sooo painful and I have a hard time getting other ppl into it to see the great scenes because of the painful grind. I hope you will do much better with free roam in Amnesia, if you do it.

Blobby

I like free roam when it’s well done but based on Lucky Mark the grind in Alex’s games is just too much. And the gameplay can get so difficult that it takes all the enjoyment out. E.g the Jessica event in LM and the Eva restroom event in Amnesia were just too frustrating to complete without a walkthrough and having to play with a WT is just dull and breaks the flow. Milfy has free roam but no grind and none of the difficult choices of LM or Amnesia and people love it. Alex has the same gfx and animation talent as Icstor and his choice of models is A+ but the idea that the more difficult the gameplay the more enjoyable is the game is a fallacy.

In my opinion, Lucky Mark was fantastic (one of the best games ever) and there was not the slightest problem getting all the scenes (I always play without cheats). Personally, I would have liked Amnesia to keep at least the same difficulty level. That way you can play for a lot more time (at least a few hours with each update). At the moment it's over very quickly.

In LM, there were many places with many hours of the day to check, when all one needed was the one hour on that one day at a specific place. Very time consuming and annoying to check absolutely everything just to find that one event needed, especially when there was no decent hint as to when and where the event was to be found. One good example I recall was when the player needed to go to Saturday breakfast with the boss's wife -- for what, seven weeks in a row at least? No other event throughout the week. That's a lot of dull, unrewarding checking. Never again. Scenes were great, grind was terrible.

Yeah I needed walkthrough for Eva restroom event too. I didn't even know I missed anything until Super Alex let me know about the full scene I'd missed. These kind of choice-driven events always bother me because the dev seems to think choices are intuitive, but they really are not and it's a toss up whether the player makes the right choices or not, reasoning doesn't help. Definitely a worry that the free roam will end up with a whole lot more of this problem. I really like free roam because it adds a fun gameplay element, but it needs to be done right, not super grindy and filled with toss up choices.

I loved that, I even found the order of the pictures in the cinema on my own. I love that kind of thing. Even if there's only one way to several thousand. I've been called a grind god. The longer it takes me to figure something out, the longer I have to play. In the process, I know and love the game more and more. For me, Difficulty level is the most important criterion. It's like with a woman, if you get everything from her immediately, you won't appreciate it. but if you have to really fight for it and you get it, then you feel real happiness.

Blobby

But once you get it the interest is gone because it was such a hard slog. Any woman who makes me work that hard is not worth it because that means she has a serious “goddess” complex and no meaningful relationship can come out of that. The same woman will give it up within minutes to another dude that takes her fancy. Most of us do not have the time to waste on game grind and just move on. Alex will just lose patronage when he could be at the same level as CoBD or Timestamps, even Milfy. None of these have the grind and they are really enjoyable. At the end of the day this is porn, fapping to completion is the aim, not grinding to completion. I’ve got my PS5 for the hard stuff.

Each of us is different, what I love, you may hate. I know I represent a minority and Alex should always follow the majority of players to make as many players happy as possible. It was just my personal opinion.

Blobby

I think you will enjoy LOP and S&G games a lot if you don’t know them already. LWT redux is coming out soon too.

Finish, Broken sword, Monster Hollywood, Runaway, Age of empires 2 all campaigns. I don't think it's more difficult than that. And you just have to follow the guide within the game xD

Thank you, guys! I will try to combine the complexity of the gameplay with its clarity so that it becomes comfortable to play.

"Alex will just lose patronage when he could be at the same level" - why do you think so?

Alex, Your story writing is better than Icstor, on par with Motkeyz and not as good as Philly. Your 3D is as good if not better and there are no coding problems. Happy that you moved to RenPy cause Unity is PIA. Your stories are darker than most and there is a market for that. So on average your product is on par with the 3 devs mentioned above but your revenue is less than half. MC and Timestamps are easy and fluid, quite linear, but there’s lots of content and several routes that are exclusive to one another. LM is very linear and an event with one character is linked to another character or event, and we have to guess who and how to make it happen and it takes ……ages, a lot of grind and guesswork. In opposition to lots of content that takes time, LM had less content with grind to pass the time.People who play porn games are looking to be entertained through immersion with the MC but the ultimate goal is CLIMAX not frustration. Because of this I personally and I believe others too, pledge intermittently or not at all. I did twice on LM, towards the end because I thought the Dev needed to be rewarded for a very good effort and to thank him for bursting my balls on Elena. I like Amnesia a lot more but I am seriously poor atm (all the time in the world to play porn and analyse pluses and minuses) with no commissions coming in. Covid is just wrecking life. Keep well.

I agree that the story writing is pretty good, though dialogue, at least in LM, needed work because the English was often unnatural. I haven't been playing Amnesia much because I want to wait for more content, so I'm not sure if Alex's dialogue writing is still an issue or not. I also agree that the 3D is at least as good as the other games mentioned, if not better. Personally, I think better. Super Alex can look forward to a lot more support as long as the grind gets cut down, or cut out completely, from his games. I am also one of those that wanted to show one-time support because of the phenomenal final scene in LM, but then I was really impressed with Eva animated scene in Amnesia, so I want to keep on supporting.

Blobby

Yeah, if he manages to sync story and grammar he’ll have 25% done perfectly.

Thanks for your detailed answer. Yes, I've played all the games you listed above. I am very flattered that you are comparing my humble project with them. I understand that the amount of success directly depends on the amount of content (if the gameplay and other components are at the level)

mr.Just, did you see Kate's scene in v0.5? or Eva's scene still looks better for your mind?;))

Just

Oooh sorry I missed this message, just saw it now! I haven't actually played since 0.4, as I would prefer to wait patiently for content to build up. I already trust you to do phenomenal work, so I am happy to continue supporting without concern.
