February 2022 Report (Patreon)

"What a year, huh?" "Captain, it's been 2 months."

Safe to say, a whole lotta things that aren't YouTube-related have been happening this month, so to begin this report, I might as well dive into some personal updates!

Personal updates

So right at the start of the month, I got sick for like a day or two. I mostly slept it off, and to this day I'm still not sure whether it was COVID or a case of Lunar New Year food poisoning, though I'm gonna place my bets on the latter given my symptoms.

That said, this month has also seen a huge spike of COVID cases in Hong Kong, alongside shifts to my job responsibilities as a result, it's all a little bit messy, there's ramblings of a city-wide lockdown and all that jazz. So that's basically what's been happening over here!

Video updates

On a more upbeat note, the NSMB Level Gimmicks core video has passed 100k views, which is absolutely incredible. After this long it kinda feels like a "hey, maybe I still got it" moment, not gonna lie. It's also attracted some views for other core videos as well, like the one about 3DS AR Games, which is great to see! I've always hoped that these core videos can still age well as retrospectives regardless of the current hot topic.

As for other videos being worked on, the Tetris core video script is still being picked at. It's like 70% complete at this point, and after finishing this report I should totally get back to working on it, but the combo of shifts in my job plus the need to collaborate on the script-writing has resulted in some pushbacks. It was in development hell for a reason, I suppose, but I am determined to get it outta there sometime.

Actually, to bide the time, I originally planned to work on a Things of Interest video featuring a GBA TV Tuner that I picked up this month!

Unfortunately plans for that kinda got screwed up a bit, because of...unforeseen circumstances.

So yeah, that might have to wait a bit until I can get the thing in working order.

The month being March also means a certain date is quickly approaching next month and I also got to do something for it... There have been big production ideas floating around my head for that date for quite a while now, but so far I don't think I have been able to devote the time to them yet. So hopefully planning for other ideas won't get too much in the way of the next core video as well lol

Bonus videos

More exclusive videos on Akfamilyhome Plus are on the way! I hope these have been neat little tidbits for you all. In the last report, I talked about whether or not to make some of this exclusive content public, and I believe most of you shared similar sentiments that the public should be able to see some of the older Patreon content.

So here's the current plan: I'm aiming for having at least a certain number of recent & exclusive videos at all times, so no matter when new folks join in, there will always be new content on here that's not available publicly yet. Once that cap is hit, some older content will occasionally be picked to made public! Of course, there's also topics that if I feel are appropriate will be uploaded as public content directly, such as this recent one where I finally answer whether I will make a video on Meme Run 2.

Also, small tip: while all AK Plus posts on Patreon have the 'Akfamilyhome Plus' tag, you can also filter posts by the 'Exclusive' tag to limit it to the content that has not been made public yet!

Okay hear me out

I have this weird idea for a bonus video and I really wanna make it happen. It will be a trivia-show type thing similar to these 'guess the track' videos hosted on Good Vibes Gaming, but with a topic that's NOT video game music...it's a secret and part of the reason why I wanted to make this video a reality in the first place because I don't think most people would see it coming. :)

It's something I plan on hosting in my Discord server sometime, and the only thing I have left to figure out is who and how many people I should let join in. So far I'm considering having patrons be participants while the rest of the server can listen in...so if you think you're a knowledgeable Nintendo person and are interested in participating (because the topic IS Nintendo-related...that's your only hint!), then maybe let me know on Discord or the replies to this post! This is not a formal sign-up post or anything, I just want to see how many people would be interested in joining. I'll announce more details once I'm ready to go ahead on this!

With that, we are done for this report! Lots of stuff still in the works plus uncertainties in the world might mean there could be no public output for the month, but please enjoy the bonus stuff on offer here at the meantime, and thank you all once again!
