DEAL? DEAL!
I've got a couple previews/teasers for you guys today, and then I'll have a post tomorrow detailing some logistical changes that I'm making around here. Hopefully those changes can stabilize the content output a bit going forward.
So listen, I knew I was gonna have a long month ahead of me after I finished the Butt Bullying vid with Clayton last month. I've been using an older version of Blender (4.1.1) for pretty much every single project I've made over the past two years, despite the fact that Blender has gotten a myriad of updates in that time.
I'm finally switching to Blender 5.2.2 LTS with this current project, and man has it been a fuckin' headache. A lot of stuff has been either: upgraded, drastically changed, or removed entirely (mostly those last two!) But alas, I'm learning. On top of that, I hadn't taken the time to expand my skills or learn much new tech over the past couple of years either, and I've been reliant on the same methods for a long time - I've been going through a hell of a lot of trial and error, but man am I glad I took the time to learn some of this stuff.
"That's great, dude. What does it mean for us?"
Good question, gooner.
The main appeal is that it means I can do a hell of a lot more with creating "original" 3D models! Calling them "original" is a bit misleading since the models are still utilizing third-party assets, but they're "original" in the sense that I won't have to use the same exact character models over and over and over again. The two orcs you see here are a couple models I started cooking up earlier this month; I have a rough idea of their personalities/traits, but I haven't settled on names quite yet.
That one in the skimpy barbarian outfit just feels like he needs a single-syllable name like Grukk or something - he's the dumb and brutish one, more muscle than brains. The other orc with the gray hair is intended to be a bit more of a stoic elder, someone who can talk a little more gently while he folds you into a mating press.
On top of that, I've been getting a lot more comfortable with stacking shitloads of modifiers on character meshes to create some dope dynamic sequences. Weight mixing modifiers are a lot better in Blender 5.2.2, and I can do stuff like having that arm-strap squeeze the orc's bicep until it snaps clean off.
I've also spent a little too much time cranking my hog to the Blender viewport while I was making these. Can you blame me? Come on, just look at them.
