Pulse Development Update - July 28th (Patreon)
Content
Hi all,
Here's an update on where things are, where things have been, and where things are going.
The most complex/involved environments are all posed. The scenes in these environments either contain many characters, or there are several scenes within these environments (ie. Lydia's hideout). Finishing Lydia's hideout scenes felt like a huge milestone, and was a great learning experience for better optimizing my workflow (since I'm a first-time solo dev who is, largely, just winging it)
Next steps are posing the slightly less involved/difficult environments, hopefully at a faster pace now that I have a better handle on the process.
A quick note on what I mean by having a scene "posed": Essentially, I have every render pre-prepared, lit, blocked out, cameras set up, etc. At this point, all I need to do in order to actually finish the scene is hit render on each of the pre-prepared "frames" I've set up. Rendering will take a bit, since I have a lot of renders to output (you're getting your bang for your buck with renders in this bad boy), but my rig is also relatively powerful, so it'll mostly just be tedious.
I've now had a few people read through the first episode's script. The goal here was to see if the game was still interesting without the assistance of its visuals. The feedback has been positive, and I feel pretty heartened by it all. It's also been pretty cool to give people some context RE: my misc. renders.
I think, for one of my upcoming updates, if people are interested, I'll share a full scene from the game, written out and with reference renders.
Speaking of, allow me to be vain and post some snippets from the feedback that I've received:
"This is good stuff. I've seen a couple AVNs do the vigilante angle, but none have really gotten my interest like this. There's a good amount of intrigue and mystery, some playful banter, a couple lewd scenes, action moments... It's a great amount of variety, which I think is smart for an introductory episode." -Unseen Seer
"That is a fun opening chapter. It’s going to be extremely well received I think. Everything seemed clean to me. No major points of confusion, pace was good, the scenes led into each other well." -showerkrogan
"That was a very engaging story for sure. The characters are interesting, the internal struggle you've started setting up for the MC is solid, pullin in the batman vibes nicely. I dig the idea that what will be the villians in the story have a legitimate grievance, and stance that makes them feel less like evil baddies out right. Also classic setup with the REDACTED FOR SPOILERS. Well put together for sure." -DigitalDropz (dev of Owned in Pieces)
Until next time.
