I dont think it is actually stated the exact reason they are called the sun pirates. But in my head the whole idea is that the fishmen want to be under the same sun as the humans are. they want to experience the same world that the humans do. so the sun is supposed to represent that dream. the sun pirates are just going to do it by force.

Ender

On point in my opinion - also it fits very well as a cover up for the slave of celestial dragon marks

Juan Jose

I think that's the only why. They only talk about the slave part.

ScuffedDuck

Fisher tiger is one of the best backstorys in one piece. Lots of nuance and emotion. Loving these reactions

Right-Hand Man

This arc is one of the most underrated in OP along with Skypeia. I think it’s mostly because of the villains, whether it’s character design or personality traits or a combination of the two. People are not seeing the complexities of the story and even if they did they are certainly not understanding the severity of it. There’s a specific scene of this arc that gave me chills the first time I saw it, I wonder if it’ll do the same for you 🤔. Or at least get you to acknowledge it lol.

Downbeat

Its really fun to see how much you are enjoying the more political direction of One Piece :D

There's a number of thematic reasons behind the fishmen choosing the sun as their symbol, but one somewhat obscure reason is that the men closest to him (Jinbe, Arlong, etc.) often address Fisher Tiger as "Tai no aniki" or "Brother Tai". "Tai" is a shortening of his name "Tiger", however "Tai" can also refer to the word "Taiyo" meaning "sun" in Japanese. My understanding of Japanese is extremely amateur, but I'm pretty confident that this is one of the several meanings behind their crew's name and flag.

I think it is the villains yes, but mostly the Sanji bullshit that make people hate the arc. It's one of my favorite arcs and I think I know the scene you are talking about, though it could be nothing, but I hate the Sanji stuff of this arc.

KDavey

honestly this arc is just so good, everything you said feels like it was pulled from my own brain lol
