man Fisher Tiger. Top 3 characters for me for sure. This backstory is so well crafted

Leave it to One Piece to handle racism better than any other Anime has.

Right-Hand Man

Unfortunately there are times in where it’s not enough to say “not all humans are bad”, just like not all Fish-men are bad. Everyone has the potential to be good and/or bad depending on your environment and what the previous generations teach you. Arlong was too far gone to change and it’s understandable. Everyone feeling the way that they do is understandable and saddening. But there’s hope in the next generation. Future generations can change things, so long as we wish them too.

I think it is such a powerful message to show that while someone can hold hope, compassion, and love. There can still be hate and pain. Even when you believe in something and fight for it, there can be that trauma that holds you back

I will never understand the fans that say Fish man Island arc was bad or is the worst. Like seriously, how can you possibly watch episodes like this and be like 'yeah, whatever, hurry up to the next island'. Anyways, that aside, Koala is a precious and adorable little bean and must be protected at all costs. I don't think the marines had all of this planned. I believe it was all coincidence that they met Koala and took her back to her parents. I doubt the navy would have even thought that fish men would have done that for her due to how 'barbaric' they believe them to be. It's sort of implied that it was the villagers in Koala's home town that contacted the marines (when the little kid is asking about them being good or bad and the grown up hushing them so Tiger couldn't overhear they were talking about him). But can we just bring attention to how sucky Koala's mum is? Like, her child is captured and put to slavery by the Celestial Dragons and she isn't devoting her life to going out to get her back? Then Tiger comes along being the first person in history to attack Marie Jois and free slaves from their tyranny, and she has the gall to celebrate when her child's saviour and protector is being executed before he has even left the island. Tiger was a great person and his death was absolutely the tipping point for Arlong's war path. I do think Tiger was slowly (very slowly) getting through to him and could have changed him if not for the tragic death. Sad times all round. :(

"Do they even hear what they 're saying". They do. "I was only following orders" is never an excuse. And it has been used a lot in history. And it will be in the near future as well, make no mistake. We will hear it about Palestine and Sudan soon.
