The big black guy is zombie movie legend Ken Foree. I've met him several times at Comic Con. In Simon Pegg's zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead, the main character works at Foree Electric, a reference to Ken Foree.

Ken Foree also has an excellent cameo in the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake. Which you should definitely watch next.

This film addresses a zombie apocalypse issue rarely brought up. The idea that distraught survivors might try to keep loved ones who've turned rather than destroy them. It's an insane form of denial that the person who meant so much to you is still walking around so they're not *really* dead. I included references to this practice in my zombie short film, Universal Dead.

One of the rogue cops that try to steal the helicopter is played by Joe Pilato, who would go on to play Captain Rhodes in Day of the Dead. Sorry, not Hugh Laurie.

That's the Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. To this day the occasional zombie fan visits there to see where it was all shot.
