COLD LAZARUS

By this stage in the show, what's been determined is that the Stargate goes other places. Also that the SGC's makeshift dailing device is going to slowly calculate for interstellar drift based the Abydose cartouche writings. The narrative purpose being that this will provide the SGC with other places to explore over time. Of course, because you have watched the order of things in a topsy-turvy manner, you'll be aware of how far a network of Stargate can go. You have watched Stargate Universe already, which was well outside the Milky way galaxy. Our galaxy is primarily where stories can take us at the moment, given the power requirements it takes to calculate and construct a wormhole over greater distances. Hence why they were stranded in SGU.

I see and feel both sides of it, and am always very conflicted even after deep consideration, each time I watch it. On the one hand it's a quite beautiful idea on the notion of processing grief. The esoteric idea of an alien lifeform discovering and trying to understand the unquanitfiable measure of physical and emotional pain, and wanting to help. Clumsy by our own human standards as it is, the intention seems to be a good one. Us humans could judge an action by how it makes us feel, rather than by the intent behind those feelings. On the other hand, I do feel that very confronting and emotionally manipulative part of the story. I'm not sure the writers entirely got that part right.
