I’m glad you got to watch the extended version and I’m right there with you about being pissed. The extended cut adds a full 15 minutes to the episode. The start with Starbuck pitching a Caprica rescue to Roslin and Adama, that’s completely cut from the streaming version of the episode, also the scene where Baltar and Cain are talking about coercion and interrogating tactics, that was cut too. The most controversial change, was the r*pe scene; because of broadcasting rules, they were told they couldn’t be as graphic, so in the version that was released on tv, Helo and Chief get there before anything actually happens. As you saw in this version, it very much did happen. The actress that plays Sharon, prefers the extended cut, because she uses that as a point of reference to how it affects Sharon in the long run, the mental and physical trauma she endures while being Galacticas POW. Personally, her scene and Starbucks are actually very important for the plot and I always thought it sucked that they were cut. What’s really sad is that a lot of these stories are taken from our own history; this is what our species has done to POW at one point in time.
