As a former aerospace engineer I can't tell you how much I appreciate them showing putting out a fire on a spaceship by opening the airlock, and how the view from outside was in the utter silence of the vacuum. Well done.

Right? I love it when shows take science into consideration lol. Specially ones that are based in fantasy. Although Firefly is not all that far from reality.

When I watched it for the first time I did a double take in the first episode when they got the fact that there is no sound in space right. I had to rewind and check again to make sure I saw it right. So rare. There's Firefly and the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" and that's about it.

Suffocation was never the issue. Movies and TV shows always get that wrong. If you were locked in an airtight space, there'd still be plenty of oxygen left after you died of carbon dioxide poisoning. It's your exhales that would kill you.

They do not have the upper hand. He got the drop on them. If any of them had raised a weapon he would have killed them.

They have the upper hand in that they outnumber him and he can't kill them all. However if they went for their weapons, he'd definitely kill one of them, maybe 2 before they took him down. None of them want to die, for the rest of their living crew to get the ship over their own dead body. The captain would be the most likely to die, so he orders them to turn around and walk out rather than let himself die so THEY can profit.
