The show does a great job of showing the things they do alter the future, but Judgement Day still happens. Just a variation. That feels right.

As I said above, we really aren't close to true AI. *But*, all it would take is some super genius somewhere to have a sudden epiphany and realize, "Aha! The brain works like this, so you could build a super intelligent AI just by doing that!"
