I really like how even your initial wash is. In a lot of your pieces, you use a very uniform color across a wall. When I try this I see a lot more texture and brush strokes. Any suggestions?

It maybe depends on the paper you use? I use 100% cotton cold pressed paper which dries quickly so I use a large (size14) brush to paint. And maybe you can add more water? You can always paint over the first layer when it’s dried if you want your base darker. Hope this helps?

I'm trying to be mostly and Urban sketcher although I also do some plant studies. I work in an A5 format sketch book and I have been testing a bunch of different ones. My favorite is a Stillman and Birn Beta, but I also like the Hahnemuhle and I just got an EtchrLab (which is 100% cotton). I've been using a size 6 round sable brush. My thinking was that it was too wet and was puddling...

Yes too wet gives lines too when it dries. But on the other hand that’s the beauty of watercolor, its’ unpredictability
