CHAPTER SIXTEEN
The Princess of Bayern had made a mistake; a terrible mistake.
“Reina, no!” Ferdinand’s voice was hard; harsh as he grabbed her by the shoulder and threw her back away from the young dwarf. But it was too late; the damage had been done.
“I...couldn’t...stop,” she exhaled as she looked back up at him, wiping the side of her lips with the back of her hand almost greedily.
“It is my fault,” he declared as he stared down at the blood then turned his head to her. “I should have prepared you for such a thing. It has been so long; I’ve forgotten myself...”
“Let me finish then; I can still smell it.”
“No.” Ferdinand’s voice was calm; not forceful now.
This was not an answer that Reina was willing to accept. She was in somewhat of a frenzy. She got up and moved back towards her quarry but Ferdinand calmly pushed her back again.
“You will not deny me,” she seethed, her fangs exposed stark white in contrast with the blood smeared across the bottom of her face. He reached down and pulled her up by the neck of her bodice as easily as if she weighed no more than a child. “I should have told you,” he went on calmly, “however as I did not prepare you I will teach you now. If you finish it will only make you ill. I will allow you the last moment but when his heart stops beating and I pull you off you will obey me and stop.”
“Why can’t I keep drinking until I am satisfied?” she complained staring at him evenly. She did not like being challenged. She was a princess, after all.
“When we get in a frenzy like this; when the blood and the prey intoxicates us just so, well then it makes us ill to drink until there is nothing left to take.
“I would liken it to...a feast at your castle. Perhaps some dessert tastes absolutely incredible and so you keep consuming more and more. Eventually if you ate all the kitchen had made for that evening you would grow ill. No perhaps that is not the best analogy. But in simple there is enough blood in a person to make one sick. It’s just too much; you’d overeat.
“Besides, it makes such a mess. Worse than what is now.
“I know it is difficult to control the urge but you must remind yourself should this happen again that you mustn’t give in; you must stop before you drink any further than you have already at the point that the feeling takes you over. Is this clear?”
“So you do not wish to destroy my fun?”
“Never, love. Only to stop you from making a mess. When we get like this we almost tear the victim to pieces. And it is extremely difficult to be certain you are not discovered or that you manage to control the aftermath so that others forget. Do I reach you my love?”
“I understand. But it’s so good why shouldn’t I enjoy myself?” she muttered afterward.
“Go on then. We will tidy this together after you are through.” Ferdinand released her bodice and she immediately moved back to her knees and took in the ebbing flow of blood that had slowed considerably at this point. It was not long before he would die and she knew it. She didn’t have long to enjoy herself. Shame.
