CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
Princess Reina was alive.
“My darling don’t speak,” Ferdinand cooed. “You are still too weak. Allow me to bring you sustenance.”
She gave into quiet submission as her love took her from her casket laying her beside it and with another kiss Ferdinand then moved away from her to pick up one of the dwarves. “Drink of him just a little. There are three more,” he whispered to her.
Silently Reina drank from the first, then the second as Ferdinand lay each in her lap and cradled her in his own arms to allow her to sit up a little as she drank.
On the third, she spoke, “Thank you my love. Thank you.” Ferdinand’s response was a smirk.
When Reina was through with the fourth drink, Ferdinand checked to ensure that none of the victims would suspect anything had gone awry. Satisfied that the deeds would go relatively unnoticed, he returned to his beloved’s side with a wide smile and embraced her.
Reina kissed back feeling a stirring within her and between her legs. “I have missed you. Make me yours,” she whispered eagerly.
He chuckled with his mouth still hungrily on hers and kissed her a moment longer before pulling back and looking at the holy relics surrounding them in the chapel. Oh how he wanted this to be the place and time but— “We cannot my love. We must play things cleverly and this would be too impulsive.”
Reina whined softly and tried to pull him closer but Ferdinand resisted. “Trust me my love I want nothing more than to join our flesh. You are so incredibly desirable. But to be joined now would ruin our chances of successfully having everything we want especially this kingdom under our command.”
“But why?” she breathed out, “Surely a consummation of this love would not be the end of all. Come now Ferdinand,” she whispered, almost purring as she begged him whilst pulling up her skirts to her waist. “We have been apart far too long. I want you and you want me. We are in love and will be forevermore. Take me in your arms. Take me and make me yours,” she implored as she scooted closer to the edge of the shrine that her casket had been lain on.
Ferdinand exhaled shakily. He was having difficulty refusing Reina’s request as he felt desire pulsing through his body stronger and stronger. “No,” he exhaled a short second later and turned from her to walk to the opposite wall. “We must maintain your honor until we are wed. Give me a couple of days and then I am yours in body and devotion.”
Reina decided to try something then from desperation, “My darling,” she cooed softly, “please look at me.” When he did she attempted to use her powers of persuasion upon him. “I am a shrine and you are a devoted palmer. Come and worship me. I shall give you all of myself soul...and body,” she hummed in a low tone with a smirk of mischief and desire.
Ferdinand averted his eyes. “Ah Reina but I have told you. We cannot persuade those of our kind, as it were. Your charms will not work upon me. Though, your desirable nature as a woman especially an untouched maid does appeal to my deepest carnal senses. I shall not give in. I want the moment I pluck you to be the right one where our union cannot be disturbed or interrupted or judged as anything but binding between us.
“Trust me when I say the moment I take you will be well worth the wait on both of our parts. Until then my love be satisfied with my words of devotion and the movement of my lips and tongue against yours.
“Come now—” he entreated when she expressed displeasure, “let me tell you how we shall come into power in this kingdom and how we shall be rid of all those who have intended you harm. We will be revenged upon those who have done this to you,” he gestured at the empty casket where she had lain dead but that very same hour still. The mere suggestion of this put a new fire into Reina’s eyes and she allowed Ferdinand to placate her with a kiss and promise to explain his plan once they had quit this place of holy death presently. She lowered her skirt again and tried to ignore her desire for her beloved that coursed eagerly.
She would have him in good time. For now, she wanted to know the wicked ideas he had planned to get her her throne back. One thing at a time...
When Reina’s sentinels woke, they rose to their feet in a bit of a stupor. A moment later after rubbing their eyes they at once beheld a shadow entering the sanctuary followed by the young man who cast such a shadow. “My Lord Ferdinand!” Gus proclaimed in surprise.
“I have come to pay homage to my beloved Reina,” he professed as he removed his large hat.
Oskar, finding this situation to be quite familiar blinked his eyes a few times. He had thought that Ferdinand had already entered and removed his hat and that the group of them had turned away so he could pay his respects. In truth, Ferdinand had forgotten the command he had given to the dwarves before he’d put them to sleep. The dwarves themselves shrugged this off as that rare but known feeling of what would later in history be called ‘deja-vu’.
“Please let me kiss the lips of my dearest that I might bid her farewell.”
“You do her and us honour by attending her. Please, do as you have asked,” Wilhelm responded with a bow of his head.
Ferdinand was luckily the only one who heard The Princess’ inhale and soft laughter as he leaned over her casket. To silence her, and play his role, Ferdinand pressed his lips to hers then took her hand carefully and waited.
One...two...three... And then Reina opened her eyes and gasped in wonder. Then, if that were not surprising enough to the dwarves who were confused by the sound of the princess’ exhalation of breath, she began to cough and sputter. Ferdinand lifted her upright and she spit something into her hand and breathed unevenly. “Oh what has happened; where am I?” she pretended in a light voice.
“Jesu tis a miracle!” Wendall whispered as he crossed himself in fear and wonderment.
By some unseen grace of God, Her Royal Highness Princess Reina was alive!
