Here is the analysis of the couple of songs on the playlist that I couldn't give you before you had the end of the story! Hope you enjoy!

SONG: In the End cover of Linkin Park by 2WEI feat. Edda Hayes

CHARACTER(S) REPRESENTED/MEANT FOR:  Edeline with hints of Reina

LYRIC(S) THAT STAND OUT & EXPLANATION OF MY CHOICE TO ADD TO PLAYLIST:

It starts with one thing I don't know why It doesn't even matter how hard you try Keep that in mind I designed this rhyme To explain in due time All I know

I think these lyrics speak to Edeline’s laments towards the end of the story. She becomes pensive and accepting of what goes on around her.

Time is a valuable thing Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings Watch it count down to the end of the day The clock ticks life away

This really ties into the deaths in this story. With every second, the dying person moves closer to death because of loss of blood.

It's so unreal Didn't look out below Watch the time go right out the window Trying to hold on, but you didn't even know Wasted it all just to watch you go

Edeline never expected that she would die and that Reina would live on and become Queen. She didn’t ‘look out below’ and make sure things were finished and it cost her. It’s ‘unreal’ that the ending to her happens in the way that it does. All of the lead up to Reina’s ‘resurrection’, coronation, Edeline’s imprisonment and the wedding really goes by quickly time just flies and all of the time Edeline put into trying to destroy Reina was wasted just to watch the girl ‘go’ on.

I kept everything insideAnd even though I tried, it all fell apart

Edeline didn’t ask for enough help; keeping everything inside. It fell apart in the end; her plans didn’t work.

What it meant to meWill eventually be a memory of a time when I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter

In the end of the story, everything that happened to counter Reina and the evil didn’t matter; it didn’t stop the girl from living on, becoming Queen and becoming a powerful vampir.

I tried so hard In spite of the way you were mocking me Acting like I was part of your property Remembering all the times you fought with me I'm surprised it got so

Reina was selfish and arrogant. She viewed everyone as her ‘servants’ because she felt so entitled by her position (and being a vampir). She treated everyone like her property: her servants/those she ruled over in her kingdom. Edeline saw this when she secretly visited Brickwall and in talking with Errol too. In the end, she quietly reflects on all of the battles she waged against Reina. But for what?

Things aren't the way they were before You wouldn't even recognize me anymore Not that you knew me back then But it all comes back to me in the end

Both have grown as women (Reina and Edeline) from the time they meet until their last meeting. And yet neither bothered to get to know one another. Reina certainly didn’t take any mercy or familial attachment into consideration when she chose to punish Edeline.

You kept everything inside And even though I tried, it all fell apart What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when

I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter

Both kept secrets. Both suffered for them but only Reina came out on top.

I've put my trust in you Pushed as far as I can go For all this There's only one thing you should know

Both ‘trusted’ one another at one point in their lives. Both had to go to some extremes pushing themselves as far as they could go. And yet the final message of the story and of Edeline’s life is that ‘in the end, it doesn’t even matter’.

SONG: Everybody Knows by Sigrid

CHARACTER(S) REPRESENTED/MEANT FOR:  the story overall is arched into this but Edeline really can be a specific character that relates.

LYRIC(S) THAT STAND OUT & EXPLANATION OF MY CHOICE TO ADD TO PLAYLIST: This song is about the dark side of the world; the pessimist’s view of it if you will. We all know; everybody knows about the bad stuff in life and in the world. This is the defeatist feeling one might get during this story when all of the bad continues to happen again and again. For one character in particular, Edeline, this song was quite relevant in a pivotal moment towards the end of the story when she lies dying. It starts to really relate to her when she is in her dungeon cell and then when she is undergoing her torture and finally as she lies dying the view of being ultimately defeated and that evil has won really sets in.

Everybody knows the dice are loadedEverybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed

At her final moments of life Edeline knows that she had no chance against Reina and Ferdinand too she learns. There were two of them all along and their combined forces were more than Edeline ever bargained for. As well, the failure of Edeline’s brother in the Epilogue to destroy Reina means that ‘the good guys lost’ for good.

Everybody got this broken feeling Like their father or their dog just died

What a wonderful way to describe a feeling of foreboding especially that which Edeline must’ve felt in the dungeons. Everybody wants a box of chocolates and a long-stemed rose

This alludes to the search for romance in the story. Edeline craves it secretly. Reina wants it and has it in Ferdinand and he in her. Arnaud wanted it and had it with his wife Imogene. If everyone had just found love to be enough perhaps much of the tragedy would not have occurred... Edeline might’ve been too busy to notice Reina’s behaviour around the castle, Reina might have found herself fulfilled by being Ferdinand’s beloved but his desire for the power of her position and her own desire for the same caused much pain and sorrow. If King Arnaud and his Queen had accepted they had found truest love and then just passed on the kingdom to an heir that wasn’t their own child, Imogene perhaps would not have died so young.

And everybody knows that it's now or never Everybody knows that it's me or you And everybody knows that you live forever When you've done a line or two

I know that this implies drug use but in this context it shows that the intoxication of getting everything they want falsely makes Reina and Ferdinand think they are untouchable and invincible. This thought process really puts blinders on Ferdinand’s eyes to the point that he doesn’t see that Reina has lost all pleasure in him and becomes his demise –which he doesn’t see coming either.

The ‘me or you’ also harkens to Edeline and Reina and the ‘now or never’ shows the urgency in which they want to destroy each other.

And everybody knows that the Plague is coming Everybody knows that it's moving fast Everybody knows that the naked man and woman Are just a shining artifact of the past

This speaks to the reliance of God in this story. Bad things are coming to Bayern and beyond and no one blames God for it ever they constantly thank him instead for his grace and mercy and his miracles when it comes to Reina. But long gone are the simple gifts of the past where God made man and the world: now there are terrors on the earth such as the vampir that terrorize. While Adam and Eve brought life into the world they also brought sin; they invited Satan in. They are an ‘artifact’ of the past.

Everybody knows the scene is dead But there's gonna be a meter on your bed That will disclose What everybody knows

In the end it is revealed in Edeline’s mind that there’s no winning and that the pessimist attitude towards the world the ‘everybody knows’ becomes known. Sadly she doesn’t really have time to process it before she fades.

And everybody knows that you're in trouble Everybody knows what you've been through From the bloody cross on top of Calvary To the beach of Malibu

Edeline has been in some high points –she became a Queen- which is the ‘beach’ portion of her life. But she’s also literally been sacrificed in public in a very excruciating way like the cross was on Calvary. So these lyrics really speak to the trouble she came to.

Everybody knows it's coming apart Take one last look at this Sacred Heart Before it blows Everybody knows

At the last moments of her life Edeline was alone with those who murdered her but someone else was watching too. Right to her point of her death Edeline believes herself to have done the right thing, the ‘holy’ thing and so she equates herself with God’s side hence the appropriate reference to Jesus’ Sacred Heart. The lyric basically symbolizes to say ‘take one last look at this holy woman before everything ends in misery’.

SONG: Shoot to Kill by Tommee Profitt feat QUIVR

CHARACTER(S) REPRESENTED/MEANT FOR:  mostly Reina and Ferdinand

LYRIC(S) THAT STAND OUT & EXPLANATION OF MY CHOICE TO ADD TO PLAYLIST:

Blood on our hands There's no telling what you'll find In the shadows where we hide

These have obvious literal connotations with blood on hands but also all of the things they’ve hidden that they’ve done by making people forget things. Also the shadows where they hide references the fact that neither go out into the sun.

Once you've seen it There's no going back in time It's a darkness you can't fightThere's no stopping now There's no backing out

Reina cannot reverse her transformation. She cannot turn back time and bring back anyone she kills. But also once she has a taste of darkness she is intoxicated and there’s no turning back for her in the story.

We shoot to kill Aim for the heart Live for the thrill We shoot to kill

I like the lyric ‘aim for the heart’ because Reina and Ferdinand really do destroy people’s spirits, friendships (killing the dwarves) and not caring who they might hurt in the process. Reina is particularly cruel to Edeline at the end once she comes back to the castle to reclaim her throne. All of the cruel things the two do is in pursuit of their own ‘thrill’ and pleasure.

We've got secrets Buried deep inside these walls But you'll never hear them talk

No one will ever know the things the two have done because they literally erase memory of it. I also think these lyrics apply to Edeline in the sense of never truly revealing what happened between her and Reina. At first it is because Edeline wants to keep the secret. But in the end it is because she does not have the time or resources to make people believe the truth. That goes to her grave.

There's no stopping now There's no backing outWe shoot to kill Aim for the heart Live for the thrill

After the coronation, wedding and then the punishment of Edeline, there’s no stopping or going back for the now royal couple. But that will eventually end in tragedy. Too much indulgence often does.
