One-Shot Wednesdays -Kit, Charlie and Mac (Patreon)

So I chose the following prompt:If I have clothes on, it’s not technically sleeping with each other. This sounded pretty much exactly like something my character Mac would say so I put him into this muahaha enjoy! (PS SFW)
It was a shitty evening. And now Kit had to share a room with two other men in a tiny motel. He wasn’t pleased.“Look I’ll just spend my night at the bar,” the tall, dark-skinned, broad shouldered Charlie told them both when the room had been analysed and he saw that there was only one bed; a single. “You chaps don’t have to worry.”Charlie didn’t want any arguments –he didn’t have work in the morning like Kit did. Charlie, the other two men learned, was on his way to Tulsa and he had a cousin who would be able to pick him up in the morning.Kit unfortunately didn’t have that luxury of being able to sleep it off in a car-ride. He was expected to be ready to go bright and early when another car would be sent to bring him into the nearest town about a fifteen minute drive away. Why did his car have to break down with only fifteen minutes to go? It was the worst luck. At least whatever luck he did have went into seeing that he’d broken down with the lights of the motel in the distance. But the motel was full-up for the night with the large convention going on in the town the next day and the snowstorm didn’t make things any better. By the time Kit had arrived there was a line up of other motorists wanting to stop in for the night to stay warm and safe. He ended up the last in line with Charlie and the other man –Mac was his name. Mac was young and it surprised Kit to learn he was already twenty four. The guy looked nineteen and acted much the same.Mac actually was the one who got the last room rented under his name and the suggestion that the last two men share his room (though made jokingly by the tired person at the motel front desk) was actually put into practice when the young man was seriously open to it. “We all need a place to rest our heads that isn’t a car,” he told the other two, “And considering you look like death—” he gazed at Kit, “and you don’t actually have a car,” he referenced Charlie’s predicament (the guy had been dropped off by a kind motorist who had let him ride-share from the last town), “we may as well room together to stay alive!”‘Don’t be dramatic’ Kit thought tiredly though he was forced to admit he had no other options until sunrise. So the three had gone up to the room together with what little they had and took a look. It wasn’t much: a single bed accompanied by a nightstand and light with a small bathroom at the back of the room containing a toilet and sink. There was a tiny TV on another stand and really not much else. The bed didn’t even contain a box spring. It was comprised of a frame and singular mattress wide enough to sleep one. Looking around it was clear that unless a person had their own blow-up mattress or a shit ton of blankets there was only the bed to sleep on. Not even a grubby bathtub to make do with!So Charlie had agreed to spend the night in the small bar that the motel had agreed to keep open for the night now that it had so many customers. Kit thought that was a stupid offer considering most people would be getting back on the road come morning but he didn’t say anything.Kit himself considered spending time in the bar that night to perhaps sleep in a chair or booth but he’d gazed in there walking towards the staircase for the room and had seen it housed only bar stools and a pool table. Again not viable options for sleep. So with Charlie gone, now it was just Kit and Mac.“Could we maybe lie on the...width part where we’ll have space between us?” Kit suggested.“What and have our legs hanging off and our necks stiff come morning!? No way man there’s enough space for us if we lie properly!” Mac exclaimed.Kit sighed. He really didn’t think so. Sure, this Mac kid—no not kid he just looked like one in comparison to Kit’s 35 years—this young man was skinny but Kit thought it still wasn’t enough to compensate. He closed his bright blue eyes and pinched his nose.“Hey look I appreciate this offer and all Mac but... I don’t... I’m not looking for this to be... I don’t want to hurt your feelings but I don’t know how you’re looking at this situation so I just gotta say that I... I don’t sway that way; this way,” he gestured between them. The brown eyes of the other man widened slightly before the laughter came from his lips. “Oh wow! I’m sorry to laugh but you... gosh you look so damn serious! Hey listen I’m... That’s not what this is! I promise! You just need to get some rest and so do I!”If Kit didn’t know any better he’d say that Mac was just trying to encourage him away from his assumption only because Mac had been figured out. He gave off the impression that he might be quite attracted to other men but then again Kit was tired and it was making him over think because he was uncomfortable. “O-okay but... There’s barely enough space on the bed for one how are two of us going to fit?”Again Mac laughed. “Okay man I don’t know how you sleep but us normal people can lie on our sides!”“It’s still...weird. I’m sorry. I’m going to go and ask them for a cot or something.”“The man downstairs said they were out of cots hence why he was nervous about what to do with you and our pal Charlie.”“Damnit,” Kit cussed softly.“Hey look I get that it’s weird but it’s just sharing a bed. We can even turn back to back.”“I...I guess I have no other option do I unless I want to sit on the ground back against the wall.”Mac shook his head. “Stop making it weird. If it’s that big of an issue I’ll rest my head on the side of the bed sitting on the floor and you can take the bed.”“I won’t have you do that you paid for the room.”“Well then looks like you gotta sleep with me!” Mac mused, laughing. He had to stop when he saw the look of discomfort and slight horror on Kit’s face. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant side-by-side. You know, if I have clothes on, it’s not technically sleeping with each other anyway.”Kit looked surprised by the words and was rendered speechless.“Hey look Kit: I can see I’m making you uncomfortable and my humor isn’t what you need right now,” Mac went on seriously, “I’m sorry for that. I am. If you’re seriously that uncomfortable with sharing a bed with a stranger that you are definitely not attracted to –and no harm taken there it’s fine—then I will let you have the bed. If it eases your feelings I’m currently quite happy with a young woman named Mira right now so I can assure you I’m seriously not trying to come onto you or anything and I realize that some people don’t like sharing physical space with strangers and that it has nothing to do with whether the stranger is male or female or whatever. I get it. And if it’s fear of that I’m not judging either. I just think that we need to find you a solution quick because you look exhausted and I know you told the clerk that you have an important keynote speech or something tomorrow morning. Let’s just get you into the bed okay?”“Hey look Mac I’m sorry I... I didn’t mean to come off so abrasive I’m just... like you said I’m exhausted and stressed from everything ahead of me. We can share the bed. I’m sorry for looking like a dick and a homophobic asshole.”“I won’t tell anyone you were cranky. Now c’mon go get into bed. Or get into your pajamas if that’s what you need to do first or whatever.”Feeling bad for his previous behaviour Kit decided to try a little humor back hoping to get back on good feet and better terms with his roommate for the night. “Hey look maybe we better stick to what you said: if it’s clothes on it’s not sleeping together...”“Pajamas are clothes,” he pointed out with some confusion.“Only if you use them,” Kit shrugged. “I find clothing restrictive when I’m trying to sleep...”It took Mac a second then he gasped his mouth open and began to laugh. “You’re kidding! You’re not serious!?”Kit began to laugh softly. “No I’m not serious I just wanted to see what you’d say! Sorry ill timed joke...”“Don’t be sorry that’s hilarious!” Mac continued to laugh. “Hey you’re not too shabby Kit!”“Thanks,” the man smiled gently.“But uh, I gotta say,” Mac went on after a short while of continued amusement, “I said it wasn’t sleeping together if I had my clothes on. I didn’t say anything about you dude...”
