They awoke the next morning to find Gorgo had make pancakes.

Draco pulled out chocolate milk and chocolate chip cookies to accompany his birthday breakfast with his friends. He told them their parents couldn’t say anything about it because it was his birthday so everyone should enjoy. They laughed and each took cookies too.

The group of them knew Mr. Soren and Mrs. Delwy wouldn’t probably care anyway even if Draco hadn’t assured them it was fine. “The Parents” (as they were sometimes lovingly referred to) were easy going. A few chocolate chips weren’t going to get anyone in trouble.

After breakfast, they all got changed into their outfits for the day and met back up in the basement.

“Alright Drake it’s your day so what’s next?”

“Gaming with the guys?”

“What?”

“Just kidding!” he laughed.

“I was okay with that…” Gorgo muttered quietly.

“To be honest I have no idea right now,” Draco confessed, “I feel good, had an excellent breakfast, I’m lookin’ good, surrounded by good looking people… Give me a second to think of what I can add into this equation…” Draco tapped his pointer finger over his lips in thought. “Ah! I’ve got it! We can go laser tagging!”

“What?”

“You’ve never been Quatre?” Draco exclaimed.

“You’ve been?” Amara rebuked Draco with a scoff.

“Well not to the big one I’ve tried the toy ones…”

“I’ve never really heard much about any of it,” Quatre admitted.

“No way? Well it’s fun you each get a laser gun and a vest that catches the lasers and you go around tagging people by hitting their vests with your laser and then it tabulates your score and how many people you get in a game period after all is said and done!” Draco explained.

“That sounds really fun! There’s a place that does this?”

“Yeah you can get toy ones which aren’t as complex scoring and stuff and then there’s a place here in town that has a whole room where they set up a game and they give you vests and stuff and then you go at it! I’ve never been but it sounds pretty cool the room is supposed to be all dark and stuff so that you can try and be stealthy.”

“The key word there for you Draco is try!” Amara laughed.

“That’s not fair Amara you’ve never seen me in action! I’m sure when given the opportunity I’m going to kick ass okay?”

She shook her head incredulously.

“Anyway would you guys be willing to go try it out? We could always just go out for pizza or something if we don’t like it or of course we get hungry!”

“Well it’s your birthday Drake,” Shimi pointed out, “You do what you want to do. But yes I’d be willing to try it out!”

“Me too!” Quatre agreed.

“Same.”

“I’m in,” Gorgo nodded.

“You want me to come with?” Sin asked casually.

“If you want,” Draco offered, “You know you are part of the “group” here right? No wait, you’re right here but you’re not invited to come with sorry,” Draco dismissed, “I suppose we shouldn’t `ve said anything in front of you.”

“Oh quiet,” she frowned. “I’ll come.”

“Sweet now just let me get us all carriage rides through this snow,” Drake grinned. “Father!” he called jokingly.

But Darius heard him and answered the call. Draco explained his wishes and soon they all headed out of The Lair for laser tag. Mrs. Delwy took half of the group; Mr. Soren taking up the rest.

After sorting out a time frame, Darius and Rhina promised to return to pick the teens up after they’d finish and all of them would go out to eat together in celebration of Draco’s golden birthday.

The group emerged from the Laser Tag building smiling and pink-cheeked.

“It was clearly our victory last round,” Draco was saying as they headed towards where his father was waiting in the car.

“This paper says otherwise I would argue,” Amara retorted, waving a score sheet in the air.

“My gun was jammed –faulty; defective. I told you already. It didn’t count my last five hits.”

“Sure, sure, whatever you say birthday boy.”

“Why is it you don’t believe me?” Draco complained.

“Because we saw how you were playing that last couple minutes,” Shimi laughed.

“Which is?” Draco prodded. “Awesome?” he murmured under his breath.

“You were cowering in the corner catching your breath,” she exclaimed. “Easy target.”

Draco looked taken aback. “I– It wasn’t cowering. I was taking a break to revaluate strategic vantage points.”

Quatre laughed.

“Yeah. Sure…” Amara teased.

Following Laser Tag, they all went to dinner with “The Parents”. They couldn’t remember the last time they’d all been at a restaurant together –and it was a lot of fun. It was great to eat a nice meal that none of them had to prepare and instead enjoy the social side of dinner.

After a wonderful time and delicious desserts, Mr. Soren covered the tab for the evening saying it was his treat as a part of the celebrations for his son’s golden birthday. No amount of arguing could persuade him to change his mind; the matter was settled and that was that.

With smiles on their faces and their stomachs stuffed full, everyone headed back to The Lair for further celebration and time together.
