Welcome back everyone to One Shot Wednesdays!

Today's prompt was given to me by my friend Vicky who put:

Lucian and Oc based on Enjoy the Silence

Seeing as I've been wanting to re-watch Underworld recently anyhow I went ahead with this one after reading the song lyrics (the song I learned is surprisingly peppy -not what I had in mind for my one shot lol). Only other problem being I suddenly kept writing and writing and now this one-shot is quite lengthy but hey I really enjoyed writing it so I hope you enjoy reading it! This is SFW btw

Please leave a comment! <3  And if you enjoy, please consider becoming a Patron! <3

The first time Lucian laid his eyes on her something in him shifted. This is not to say that he took on his Lycan form –for it was midday and there was no reason to defend himself against a young human woman of twenty six years.

Well, except that this young woman had a gun shaking in her hand pointed at him and his scientist ally. “Let him go—” she’d demanded in a shaky accent that had traces of German in it.

“Put the gun down and we can talk—” he’d responded calmly –unafraid of a human weapon. It would hurt, but it would heal.

After a short stand-off he’d grabbed the gun from her hand and pinned her to the wall to stop her causing some violence. But when his eyes met hers that seemed to be a more vibrant hazel than his own he found himself transfixed.

“Who are you?” she demanded breathlessly.

“I am Lucian,” he introduced softly. Slowly, the gun fell from his grip and he framed her face with the now empty hand. Seconds later, their mouths were roaming over one another’s. Words remained unspoken –only action portrayed the violent tension that had overtaken the two that had to be satisfied.

Lucian had not felt such passion in six centuries –since his beloved Sonja. And even with her it had been different.

With Ria he was mixed with passion and fascination and a growing sense of protectiveness over her.

Though, someone like her who followed the vehicle of a kidnapping alone by themselves armed only with a small gun and no idea what was going on had to be either very confident in their skills or very foolish indeed.

That same night Lucian had told her the truth; about everything: about who he was and what he was and why he had kidnapped her brother, Robert. “He may carry a unique strain of the Corvinus virus,” Lucian explained. “With it, it is the key to unlocking unlimited potential and the possibility of ending this blood feud between Lycans and vampires once and for all.”

Unfortunately, Robert Corvin’s blood did not possess the properties that Lucian needed. Because of Ria, he let Robert go where he would have had the young man killed before. Witnesses were a liability not an asset.

In this case, both Ria and Robert swore loyalty to never tell a soul. Robert trusted his sister and his sister trusted this Lucian. This knowledge of kidnapping and taking blood would follow Robert to the grave.

While Robert went back to living his life away from this confusing supernatural feud, Ria was swept right up into it. She and Lucian had not needed words to know that they were not going to leave each other’s sides. There was a bond between them that required only the feeling they had; unspoken to the world.

The first time the two made love was much the same. Ria pulled Lucian to her close as he pressed kisses to her neck and lips and wandered down to press gentle caresses to her breasts and navel. For a man with such a savage other half, he was the sweetest and gentlest lover. Yet, with one passionate kiss from Ria who simultaneously wrapped her legs tightly around him Lucian knew they could silently give into a more fervent experience.

“Don’t say anything,” she whispered as he later tried to swear his passions to her, “I feel it. You need not promise me anything.”

Lucian began to feel the same way. Vows spoken could be broken, love was strongly felt in the soul; speaking words could destroy something so perfectly felt and likewise speaking of pleasures and pains of the past could wound like silver. It was best not to dive into trying to explain this thing between them or his wounded heart. What Lucian needed; what he truly needed was right there in his arms every morning whether he was just slipping into bed to sleep or they had been together lying side by side already all night.

And so the two never spoke of their love and passion for one another. They merely lived it.

“You should test me,” she encouraged days after her brother had left them.

“What do you mean?” Lucian asked.

“For that virus. My brother didn’t carry it but perhaps as his older sibling, I do.”

Lucian shook his head. “Singe says the virus is carried by the males in the line.”

“What if he’s wrong?” Ria pressed. “C’mon what could it hurt? What if he’s wrong and you don’t have to go searching out new candidates?”

Seeing the sense in this, Lucian had her blood tested. Sadly, it yielded the same results. Her blood was incapable of handling the virus that a Lycan passed on. And it was also incapable of handling the vampire’s virus. If she were bit by either species, she would die.

And so, Lucian kept her as his human, mortal lover and kept her safe from the fighting that occurred out there between the Death Dealers and his Lycan followers. He did so for five years.

And then, things escalated.

When the Lycans sought to capture Michael Corvin –another descendant of Alexander Corvinus- they were met with Death Dealers who had been spying on their actions and a fight broke out on the subway. From that point on, things would never be the same. Things were set into motion that began to crumble like an old wooden tower or tumble like dominoes across an uncertain playing field unable to reveal the future.

That future landed with Lucian’s vampire ally, Kraven, betraying him in their own lair; shooting Lucian with a bullet filled with silver nitrate. Meanwhile, Death Dealers and vampire mercenaries descended deep into their caverns sent by the Vampire Elder, Viktor who sought revenge upon Kraven for his betrayal and Lucian for their centuries’ old blood feud. For it was he, Viktor, that had murdered Lucian’s love Sonja centuries ago –his own daughter slaughtered for the hybrid child she carried in her womb and the love she bore Lucian whom Viktor saw as lesser; a slave.

Now, the blood feud was reaching its head here in Lucian’s hideout. Guns echoed through the corridors and through each floor above and below ground. Ria, who had been set into a secure room, heard the fight and immediately wished to go to her love. His text returned to her before he’d met Kraven’s bullet told her to stay put for her safety.

Unfortunately, the fight raged on a little too close for comfort and as the vampires tried to break down her door, Ria was forced to flee out of the ductwork and into an adjacent corridor where she ran for her life –seeking only to stay alive and get to safety where she knew Lucian would find her.

Only, a bullet found its way into her side in the crossfire of a small group struggling to eliminate each other on the floor below that which Lucian was on. Somehow, the resilient Ria managed to escape to safety and clutching her side, prayed for a miracle. It wasn’t just her that she needed to protect, after all.

Perhaps she did receive her miracle, for Ria was able to make her way safely to the next floor in search of Lucian. She spotted him, or what she thought was him, just as she heard footsteps and growling. A Lycan lackey. Throwing herself down onto the floor to pretend to be dead, she waited for death or luck to overtake her.

Instead, gunshots rang out. When she heard them stop, Ria opened her eyes to see a Death Dealer make her way into the next room having killed the Lycan in her way.

Ria tried her best to get to the figure that she thought to be her beloved without being heard or seen. Only, she felt herself growing weak and fear made her tremble even more than just the loss of blood.

“Lucian,” she whispered, scared.

The figure, which had pulled itself up on some rubble to peer into the next room and its scene, rolled over revealing a wide-eyed Lucian surprised by the sound of his name. “Ria?” he hissed. He looked now terrified.

“Lucian!” she exclaimed softly, feeling tears starting up in her eyes –moved to emotion just by seeing him at last.

While Michael and Selene kissed and Michael then explained the origin of the war, Ria and Lucian attempted to make their way to one another.

“You’re hurt!” she whimpered when she realized he was crawling to her and not standing to fetch her.

“What’s wrong my love?” he returned when he too realized she was struggling to move; struggling to stand.

“I’m...I’m shot,” she admitted to him softly as she pressed her hand a bit harder over the wound and tried to get to her knees to shuffle over to him. She managed it and collapsed into his arms.

“Oh my darling,” he whispered emotionally. “No... How’d they get to you?”

“I had to escape they were going to break down the door,” she explained quickly in a breathy whisper. “I got caught in some crossfire downstairs and I...” She let her tears flow now that she was in his arms. “I’m sorry, my dearest.”

He felt tears of his own. “It is I who is sorry; sorry that I...” Words failed him here. There was too much to be said between them and he knew he was dying and so was she if she didn’t get help for her wound. He knew he would not be able to help her unless Raze had brought the vampire Amelia’s blood to him. But Raze had not shown up –or so Lucian thought.

Raze had, and had dropped the vials and syringes of blood onto the floor in the next room. One syringe had even tumbled out of the bag. Lucian had not seen it in his attempt to escape the room minutes previous.

Knowing he could do nothing without help, Lucian kissed his beloved to let her know that everything he truly wanted was right there in his arms right now.

Ria kissed back and sighed. “We need to get out of here. The three of us; right now...”

She should not have spoken. Her words upon realization of their meaning only wounded Lucian even worse. He shook his head, tears flowing down his discoloured cheeks where beneath them silver nitrate pulsed slowly in his veins, painfully and slowly killing him.

How was it even possible? Her blood could not take a Lycan’s virus. He’d proven it in the lab. And their couple of miscarriages that they’d suffered had only further driven home the facts. Unbeknownst to Lucian and Ria, daughters could not endure the virus. But sons—

The sound of bullets rang out interrupting the tender, sad moment between Lucian and his love. He managed to catch a glimpse of Kraven who had sought to escape Viktor’s wrath and had backtracked right to his very room. The vampire turncoat had now shot Michael with silver nitrate and was threatening Selene.

Lucian realized all at once that if he didn’t stop Kraven, the vampire would not only murder Michael but would upon trying to escape with Selene (or shooting the Death Dealer when she wouldn’t cooperate) would then happen upon Ria and Lucian just outside the room and would undoubtedly kill them both.

“I have to do something, my love,” he whispered to Ria. “Stay down.” The look in his eyes and the kiss he pressed to her afterwards told her everything she needed to know without words.

She was his now and always and he was hers. She was the best part of his life. She had been his second chance at happiness. Perhaps in another life they could have gone away together and lived on away from this blood feud and raised a son or two together; happy. But both had known and had chosen to seek out a way to end the fighting –and now here they were on the brink of ending it at the cost of so many lives perhaps including their own.

Lucian gave her one last kiss to the forehead, brushing her dark wavy hair out of her eyes and then crawled into the other room hoping to find the gun he’d dropped containing the UV rounds that would dispatch Kraven instantly.

Ria pulled herself up in time to watch Lucian make a split second decision. Kraven was about to murder Selene –and Lucian’s gun was too far out of reach to be useful. So Lucian grabbed the next closest thing –Kraven’s leg- and got the vampire’s attention. Ria gasped as Lucian used his arm weapon to stab Kraven through the leg. The wounded and angry victim hit Lucian sending him flying across the room causing Ria to cry out.

Luckily, Lucian’s fall had made too much noise and Kraven was too distracted by his wound to have heard her.

Lucian encouraged Selene to bite the wounded Michael as Kraven pulled the blade from his leg. As the villain looked up seeing Selene, Lucian at once saw salvation: his gun to one side and the bag of the Elder’s blood across the room to the other. But Kraven was standing again and within a split second he’d raise his gun to the couple who so paralleled Lucian’s own love story centuries before.

In realization, and to distract the traitor vampire, Lucian spoke, “You may have killed me, cousin, but my will lives on regardless.” For it was true: Michael now bit by both Lycan and vampire would become a hybrid of the two and prove to everyone especially Viktor that a blending of the species was only to be feared for the power to overthrow those who polluted the world with their evil. And if by some miracle Ria would get the help she needed, Lucian’s legacy would continue on.

Ria screamed in horror as Kraven emptied six more silver nitrate rounds into Lucian in retaliation of the Lycan’s frustrating words of distraction. “NO!” she screamed as she got herself up to try and get to Lucian’s side.

Kraven fired on her but missed and his clip was thus now emptied. He watched as the young woman threw herself onto Lucian’s body crying and just as he was about to grab her and do her some harm, he heard the sounds of Viktor’s troops coming this way. The coward fled.

Ria kissed Lucian’s lips again and again as tears spilled from her eyes blurring her vision of her beloved lying motionless –almost peacefully- in her arms. Not even Amelia’s blood could save him now –even if she’d seen it lying nearby.

For years the two had enjoyed the silence between them; the unspoken bond of love and passion. But now, silence was deafening.

Ria held Lucian tightly to her –the only thing she wanted and needed embraced to her as her wound bled out; both her hands now caressing Lucian and holding to him; wanting him back.

Unsaid things swirled around haunting like phantoms as she wished for even a second more of time with Lucian; one more moment, one more kiss, one more caress from his hands. It could not and would not be.

As Viktor trudged past the lovers clasped in one another’s arms in death he had eyes only for his adopted daughter and her abhorrent lover embraced nearby.

Ria had eyes only for Lucian as slowly, and without words, they closed and sealed the end of a love that was so great it could not have ever have been described in words. And now, there was nothing but silence. Forever.
