I didn’t find inspiration until Tues May 12, 2020... It’s one of my characters, Madrie’s, birthdays today! So I wrote something based on her!

I tried not to put in too many spoilers for the novels that she’s fromThe Lair Chroniclesbut the context of where this takes place in time has to give a little away. Oh well! Enjoy!

Draco knocked on the door and waited practically rocking on his feet. He was sure not to disturb the bundle in his hands. His dark eyes tried not to shift around as he waited for the result.

The young woman he was expecting opened the door. “Drake! Draco! What’re you doing here?” she exclaimed in surprise.

“Happy Birthday Madrie!” He presented the covered birthday cake to her.

“Oh my God!” she responded in utter surprise, “How’d... How’d you know?”

“Silly as it sounds uh I may be an idiot sometimes but I’m not stupid. I made note of the day last year so that I’d be sure to remember this year.”

“You did that for me?” she whispered, moved to almost tears. Her eyes were glossy though not ready to spill over.

“Yeah. Yeah of course,” he gave a nod, his black hair unmoved by the motion due to being styled with gel.

Madrie hesitated then moved forward and hugged him. He was sure to get the cake out of the way in time even though he was surprised.
