WIP Throwback Thursday! -Wolves (Patreon)
Content
Hey all!
Sorry about the lack of WIP Wednesday yesterday! I ended up having quite a full day with my family and missed my reminder to queue up a WIP post for you based on the votes!
Since that didn't work out I've decided to give you a Throwback Thursday instead by posting something I wrote in high school.
We were given a prompt of a picture of two wolves one nipping on another's ear. Then it gave a short description underneath about submission of these animals when they nip each other and their bonds to a pack -to my memory. I've tried Googling the prompt but alas it might still be used for diploma exams (as mine was). We got this as an assignment in class to practice for our final exams in English 30-1 and then it ended up being on our exam! I got a great mark in class so I rewrote this scene to the best of my memory on the final XD
This was titled a personal response because we could respond in any format we saw fit: poem, creative writing, essay, etc.
Anywhoo enjoy something I wrote when I was 17 :)

He greeted me with a playful nip on my nose. “Where have you been?” I asked gently, appreciating his public display of affection for me.
“Oh, out…” he responded casually, glancing around us. “Did you miss me Pretty Girl?” His nickname for me sounded more pleasing every time he used it.
“Somewhat…” I replied truthfully. I had grown fond of Rouge’s presence throughout the past while. His sudden interest in me, out of all the other females in our pack had caused me to feel obligated to be loyal to him.
“We’ll be hunting soon,” he stated. “Will you be joining us this time?” His stare was filled with injury as though it pained him to say this as a question. I could tell he meant ‘You will be joining us this time Shayde.’
I knew it bugged him immensely that I had not wanted to participate in the hunts the past few times we’d gone. I couldn’t tell him why; it would probably turn him away from me and cause the rest of the pack to shun me. It was not that I was afraid of the hunt itself, it was that I was afraid of what might happen at the hunt. You see, the last hunt I’d gone on, many of the males had decided to toy with our victim before actually killing it. The look in that doe’s eyes was filled with such terror; I shall never forget my feeling of sympathy for her.
Wolves aren’t supposed to feel for their prey, I’ve known that fact well enough since I was young; it’s in our instincts. But that feeling had overwhelmed me enough that I’d made excuses time after time following that hunt not to go on the others.
I could tell that Rouge was upset with me for this. In his view, his mate should be strong; fearless, something that I was not living up to lately.
“Yes,” I replied, trying my best to sound level with him. “There’s no need to worry.”
“Good.” His eyes softened a bit. “I was beginning to think that you were going soft.”
“Of course not!” I demurred. I nipped his nose playfully, trying to display my loyalty and get on his good side. “C’mon! Let’s go!” I told him, “We want to get a good leeway on the front-line.”
Now having convinced Rouge of my allegiance, I would now prove my loyalty to the pack during this hunt. They would be different to convince compared to Rouge. I wouldn’t need to display my dominance as a leader, I wouldn’t need to show them all affection, I would simply need to throw my feelings aside and follow them into the hunt. I knew that would be enough for them.
Life in a pack is that way. My individualistic weaknesses needed to be set aside in order to be a part of them. You may say that everyone needs their individualistic freedom, but for me, being a part of the pack was freedom enough. It was now, and it would be that way for the rest of my life.
