One Shot Wednesdays -I See Love (Patreon)
Content
SOOOO today's one-shot is shorter than most but it encompasses a little of what I sought to do with this piece and also definitely fits into the feeling I wanted to convey.
I was given the prompt by bitsofallofmywriting on tumblr who suggested I do something based on a song and mentioned the artist Passenger to take inspiration from!
I found a Passenger song that listening to it made me feel fuzzy so I decided that was the song I was going to do for this one-shot <3 And then as I started writing it the lyrics TOTALLY fit into the OCs that I had already thought to do the one-shot with & their story (in a narrative previously planned out years ago) and I was like WHOA. Because I didn't really obsess over the lyrics when I decided to match the song with the characters I just thought that the tune and melody and some of the chorus really brought them to my mind. And then the lines of the lyrics it as I referenced back were like 'wait they've done that previously in the story. And that...'
CONTEXT TIME The characters in this one-shot are previous characters from another story I was writing with friends many a year ago. The two volumes titled SG and SG2 (Summer Girls) basically follow 4 girls as they meet and fall in love with 4 handsome British young men on a camping trip and then follow it up with the second volume where they visit their loves in England and get to see the boys' band start to really take off -giving them a whirlwind tour literally and figuratively haha ANYWAY this next scenario I've done for the one shot takes place in what would be probably mid-SG3with one character and her lover.
The style of writing I have previously done with the story these characters are from is quite different to the narrative style of this therefore I figure it's appropriate to call this a one-shot because while the ideas reference the actual story this is not something that will be pasted into the story word-for-word. This is a generalization to fit the song and convey the scenario that the two characters are in!
Hope you enjoy and the song is: I See Love by Passenger
Loving Danny was so easy. Sure, we’d had our troubles in the past: his ex mainly when she re-emerged into his life and threatened our happiness by planting seeds of jealousy and suspicion.
But now, broken hearts had been mended; our misunderstandings straightened out and he and I were closer than ever.
The move to England had been a huge one but I couldn’t find myself regretting much about it. I was young and in love. So was he.
We closed our eyes, and we saw love.
Love makes everything better; seem manageable; seem wonderful. We looked towards our future with love in our eyes and happiness in our hearts. Whenever the stress of life began to close in on the edges, we saw only blurred edges that we wiped clear with knowing that we were young and in love and we had a future ahead of us that was going to be great! I was going to get my writing off the ground and get famous with some huge English publisher, Danny’s band with his friends were recording their second album and things were (as the English put it) brilliant.
At night as we fell asleep, his arm around my waist or his hand in mine, I recalled all of our happy memories together and was so happy to be in love. The night we’d met under the stars as he attempted to write and I attempted to dream; both of us falling for each other in those moments... Going camping with our group of friends (and family) and having the most romantic night out on a boat dancing to a soft song of piano and soft vocals... Seeing the shine of exhilaration in one another’s eyes as we made eye contact during one of his concerts... Walking along the streets of London hand in hand and feeling so content... Sitting around a campfire and listening to Danny’s song he’d composed just for me like a dream with my eyes still opened... Feeling so carefree as we drove the countryside and sang out loud our favourites with only the highways to hear us... So far, we’d been incredibly fortunate.
It’s funny how love in our eyes made us blind and naive. We’d kept our eyes closed to the real, harder reality that was closing in on us. My writing took work with little professional progress... Working part-time at a bookshop wasn’t going to cut it for a wage to live on. Danny’s success could support us both but I was too stubborn and independent to know how to accept that help and support without feeling guilt. And with his success came long, hard hours of work that kept him away from me and away from the flat we’d decided to share with one another. I love you, I love you, I’m so in love with you my mind would repeat with every limited hour we spent together even if it was just side-by-side in bed. I’m so happy and lucky to have you still. I love you. I’d close my eyes to sleep and dream of him; reflections of my love. We both denied the signs closing in around us.
Because it was just better to be in love. To close our eyes to the omens of our foreboding and see love.
I see love.
