Here's a peek into something I started writing when I was 15 so if it seems a bit weak please blame my age LOL-Britt xo
The group of friends headed into the castle and Zeth headed straight for the Council Room where he hoped to find either The King or a council advisor who could tell him where he might find his brother. Sure enough he found just that and they headed to the field behind the castle where The King was taking archery target practice with several knights and visiting emissaries. “Brother!” Zeth called out as The King shot at his target with precise aim.King Elrick turned and smiled. “Zeth! What are you doing here? I thought you were out in The Forest for the afternoon.”“That we were until we made an important discovery in the waterfall. We found a Fergal egg. A dragon’s egg!”“A dragon’s egg?” The King repeated in awe, handing his bow over to his captain assistant beside him. “Did you secure it? Is it at the castle now?”“Yes,” Zeth confirmed excitedly. “Had it not been for Androth, we would have never known what to do with it.”“Androth! Well done!”“Thank you Your Highness!” Androth bowed his head slightly in respect.“What did I tell you before? You are Zeth’s friend and therefore my own. There is no need to use my title Androth. Friends have no need to address each other so formally.”“It just takes some getting used to I guess. It’s still a little hard to believe you are now our King and sovereign. I suppose I just want to pay my proper respects Elrick. After all these years of knowing you as our Prince Royal and throne successor you’re now in that revered position which I only wish to show the proper esteem to and I often forget I knew you long before it came to you.”“Tis alright. Now tell me more about this dragon. Have you given the egg to Selwyn yet?”“Yes right as we returned from the forest,” Erod answered.“I was wondering what we might do with it?” Zeth asked. “Have you any plans for its use or purpose?”“If you’re asking me if you can have it as your pet Zeth then the answer is yes!” King Elrick laughed. “But it won’t be that simple. Of course it will still provide protection for our castle when it grows to a larger size. I’ll see that Selwyn gives it the proper care and guidance to perform this duty. And I’ll expect you to assist in that perhaps if you in fact want to take the responsibility for this dragon as your pet.”“Of course!” Zeth exclaimed. “Naturally yes I would do all that!”“Good to hear! I shall talk to Selwyn later today then. Now, would you all like to join me for some archery?”Zeth looked at his friends. “Thanks brother but we’re going to run along and do some other things if you don’t mind. I’ll see you tonight when we sup.”“Farewell!” the King called after them and took back his bow to resume his practice. Zeth left feeling his nerves a flutter. A pet dragon! This was one of the best things that had ever happened to him, he thought happily. If he hadn’t any esteem for his brother before, Zeth felt it swell immensely in his chest. All his life there was no one in the entire kingdom of Perdæshia that Zeth loved more than his brother Elrick. No one he trusted in, played with, laughed with or felt closer to in all his fourteen years of life. And this new turn of events gave Zeth a closer love and appreciation for his brother and his good natured judgment and carefree attitude. If Elrick never gave him anything ever again, Zeth was sure he’d still look up to his older brother and feel no ill will to him ever again now that he had his brother’s permission to take a dragon – an actual dragon! – as a pet!
