This episode was such a fun one! I loved getting to see the girlies hanging out and celebrating and then of course, any Nathan and Lucas bonding time is a win in my book. we still have dan being terrifying, my love of Keith is dimming and my stress is alive and well 😆🩶

This episode was so fun and comforts me so much!! We’ve officially entered the Braleyton Besties Era, and they’re honestly one of my favorite girl trios in all of television. Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe from Friends will always be the best one out there for me, though, so they’re literally my number one, but Braleyton is definitely somewhere in the top 10 or even 5, and this episode is basically considered as the beginning of their group friendship or dynamic 🥰❤️ Also, I love seeing Lucas and Nathan no longer fighting — they always give me so much joy. My beloved Scott Brothers have come so far from the pilot 🫶🏻 Oh, and they were so sick and twisted for making us think that Nathan was actually gonna do that, by the way!! But he’s a changed man now, and I’m proud to say that I never doubted him 😌 (that fake-out still holds up and never fails to take me out tho 👀)

Dan is such a little shit, but I love hating him. He’s so entertaining to watch. I’ll admit, the show would be so dull without him. Or better yet, there wouldn’t even be one because he was the one who got Karen and Deb pregnant with Lucas and Nathan, so all of this wouldn’t exist without him 😅

You're absolutely right about Deb and about Nathan. Nathan has done SO much growth over the course of 20+ episodes. Crazy to think that it's only been like 9 or 10 months for them haha As for Deb...God, I miss the queen we had last season. I understand she's upset but she's turning into Dan 2.0 with how willing she is to control Nathan's decisions to comply with her own perspective Overall for me, this episode was fun but lacked a bit of substance. But that's entirely okay as well--I miss long seasons of television like this where it focuses more on character moments than plot development As Luna already mentioned, we're starting to see Brooke, Haley, and Peyton hang out together as a trio and I love that for all of them. I think it makes total sense at this point in their lives how they compliment each other enough to have that kind of connection while also being different enough to challenge each other's perspectives in different ways As always, I am very much looking forward to more OTH reactions from you!

Tim...hm. My thoughts on Tim. I think so far he has endearing moments but...it mostly just feels like the writers going off of the popularity of American Pie and inserting a character that encompasses that type of humor into a teen drama. Especially this season so far I could probably say something similar about Brooke this season so far as well. I feel like the writers kinda magnified how sexual she is and made it a more defining personality trait rather than just another aspect of who she is in a way that feels a bit more forced than it did last season I never thought of it very much before this rewatch but it does feel like Tim and Brooke are both sides of the same coin strictly in the sense of how the writers treat the sexual aspects of their personality as a punchline for shenanigans, which could be both good and bad depending on what they are trying to go for in the moment

You gotta see things from Keith's perspective. Hes been in love with Karen for 20ish years everytime he sees her it feels like hes being punched in the gut. It hurts him to see her and he doesnt want to be bitter and bring that energy around her. Hes doing the right thing letting time do his thing and letting her know as well.

The main thing I don't like about Deb here is that she doesn't have a plan at all and she never even said why them getting married is a problem in the first place. It really feels like she just went straight to "you have ruined your lives" and everyone is like "How?" and she's like "I don't know, but they're ruined." She doesn't list a single real argument against them getting married so soon, even though there would be plenty at their age, but she just... doesn't. Instead she just yells at them. They live together and Haley's parents sold their house. So even if Deb found some weird legal loophole that invalidates their marriage immediately, Haley isn't just gonna pack up and move. She's gonna keep living with Nathan and the only thing that's gonna change is that they will hate Deb. It really feels like the writers realized that in Season 1 they made Deb too likable and Dan too unlikable, so they gave Deb this bullshit to annoy us all.

Ryann Rodkey

exactly! like it's valid to not approve of them being married but the only reason she seems to think that is because it didn't work out for her and dan and she feels like her life was ruined so theirs must be. I just hate the 'so and so didn't work for me or I didn't like it, so it won't work for you and you won't like it' it genuinely does feel like they just threw this in as a way to knock deb down a bit which is unfortunate. but yeah, the yelling and trying to rip them apart when they are already married is only going to make Nathan want to stay further from you, not come running back into your arms 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ryann Rodkey

I agree that it's fine for him to need space from her, I think the point that really bothers me is he always finds a way to throw a dig at her when this is not her fault. like when he was packing and he said 'what did I get out of it', as if he didn't get a lovely friendship with Karen and a beautiful relationship with Lucas. to act like that's all unimportant bc she isn't in love with you is gross. then instead of just going to her here and saying that it hurts him to be around her so in order to move on he needs space from her, he throws in a dig about her having no problem moving on with Larry. There wasn't really anything to move on from. they were never together, they kissed once and she left and upon her arrival anything that may have been was completely done. him throwing that in was pointless and childish. she's allowed to date without him being shitty about it. go take your time if you need to, that's understandable but stop throwing digs at her just because she's not in love with you 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ryann Rodkey

yes! I love seeing the girls all together, it's GORGEOUS and I want more!! their energies are all so different, it's so fun to watch!! also, Monica, Phoebe and Rachel are elite, I agree. I also was like surely Nathan isn't going to do that.... but then the way they shot it was DIABOLICAL

Ryann Rodkey

no literally, he's the worst, but also just a hoot

Ryann Rodkey

I'm so happy you're enjoying watching along with me!! I love this show and chatting about it is so much fun!! I agree, I also love a long season that has some fluff! I need more of this trio as well! ASAP. seeing deb's villain arc is wild after how much I loved her last season! 😆 she is a dan 2.0 at this point lmao

Ryann Rodkey

wow great points here and I totally agree! we've gotten a little more depth from Brooke but yeah overall, I completely agree!

MarkusR

It feels like in his mind he put coins in the friendship slot machine for 20 years and now he's pissed he didn't get the marriage prize. That's just not how it works. If Karen posted this story on reddit, everyone would agree that she dodged a bullet, because there are red flags everywhere.

Another great episode! Again I rewatch this one all the time for some laughs and good times ❤️❤️ I remember watching this on tv and they went to commercial right when she went to the bedroom and me and my bestie were screaming!! Nathan and Haley forever! ♾️ love your reactions ,thanks so much!! ❤️❤️

That line where Dan says the marriage will self destruct on its own and Deb says "And what if it doesn't" always makes me so mad! If it doesn't self destruct then maybe it was meant to be!!!! I actually think that line proves that Deb's anger was never about what is best for Nathan and Haley individually. It was always about control and her wanting him to come back home to her and be her idea of what she wants her family to be. She claims in one breath that her anger has to do with her experience and her belief that it will be bad for them but if the marriage doesn't self destruct then maybe this is what's best for them. Young marriage doesn't work for everyone. I get that but I have seen situations in real life where it has worked. Different strokes for different folks. What works for one person may not work for another. But what really bothers me is how Deb and especially Dan treat marriage as if it's death. Like you can't go college!! Your life is destroyed!!! You can still have a life and career while married!! This is just another case of Dan and Deb pushing their baggage onto other people. Deb says that their marriage won't work because her marriage didn't work but what she seems to be forgetting is that Nathan is not Dan and Haley is not her! And Nathan and Haley's marriage is not her marriage. One big difference is that Haley didn't marry Nathan cause she was knocked up so already one major difference. Dan acts like Nathan can't have a Basketball career while married because he didn't have one but what he's willfully ignoring is that he got an injury and then CHOSE not to rehabilitate. That was his decision and ultimately it didn't have to do with Nathan or Deb but that's Dan's major flaw. He blames everyone else for his "downfall" and refuses to take responsibility.

I've been thinking about Deb this season. I know a lot of people think that her behavior this season has been out of character and I'm not sure that I agree. I feel like her reaction to Naley's marriage was inevitable. After Nathan emancipated himself she was devastated. And I get it... I also feel like her and Dan should have been better parents and maybe it wouldn't have happened but either way I get why that would be a gut punch. Deb comforted herself (and Karen encouraged this viewpoint) by telling herself that this was just a phase in Nathan's life. That he was gonna get over it and come back. And then suddenly her 16 year old son walks in and tells her he's married and now she realizes that her pipe dream is not gonna happen. Things are never gonna be the same again. So she lashes out. Honestly it's kind of in character. This is the woman who told Dan she'd kill him in his sleep if he didn't leave the house. I mean I hate Dan as much as the next person but Deb does have the tendency to lash out and say crazy stuff. This is a low point for Deb and I hate everything she has said to Nathan and Haley but I also don't think it's out of character or character assassination in any way.

Ryann Rodkey

EXACTLY! that's what bothers me. I just think he can say he needs time without acting like the time and effort he spent with her and Lucas was entirely wasted and for nothing because she didn't just marry him at the end. it was an end goal that she had NO idea about so it's like punishing her bc she said no and throwing away their entire friendship that they've worked on for 20 years

Ryann Rodkey

exactly! this is totally what I mean when I say 'pushing their experiences onto others'. just bc her marriage didn't work, doesn't mean theirs won't. people are different. different things work for different people. but there is no real reason she's giving here other than it didn't work for her so their life is ruined now. divorce sucks sure, but I hardly think that getting divorced means your life is ruined 🤣

Ryann Rodkey

I do agree that I don't think it's necessarily out of character. I think it's a shock for the audience bc we've seen her put in SO much work to try and better herself for Nathan and we typically see her lashing out at dan so we love that. but now seeing her lash out at haley and Nathan feels off bc we don't think they deserve that treatment. but you're right, we have seen this behavior before!

🍭

Bro I hate Deb’s character turn. I watched the show a long time ago and completely forgot how based she was in the first season 😩
