Even though she's not my character, Maya appears so frequently in these comics that it's only fair that she get a reference sheet! She actually belongs to https://bsky.app/profile/onedumbduck.bsky.social , so you should send them some love for making such a lovable saleslady!

Given she's never seen being regenerated, is there a possibility she has clones? That way, she can still pop, and then come back as if nothing happened. This would make sense given she's apperantly rich and has a "good insurance"

Could also be the company she works for is developing a cure for permapopping, but it's just not ready to be released to the public, or massively expensive, or only works on her, or requires some sort of prep beforehand (full body scan, DNA sample collection, fabrication of a mold, etc).

Notice the question mark next to "Human." That implies that she's more than human, she's more human adjacent, which can lead down one of three possible paths that I've been cooking up for a while. Path #1 - Witch. Maya is part of a coven of witches who specialize in body modification magic. Of course, while she does know the ways of the arcana, she doesn't use many of the spells. It could be speculated, however, that she has mastered spells of rejuvenation and regeneration. Her "really good insurance" is just a spell that she has set as a contingency, one that activates after events that would otherwise kill her. Path #2 - Immortal. In terms of the world building of "Lauren Comics", it's possible that Maya is part of the original race of humans that existed long before the modern day, a race that may have existed before the current balloon and half-balloon people that we have today. It is canon that no one knows what the barcodes on balloons and hybrids are or where they come from. It is possible that Maya is part of this race. This theory mostly stems from the fact that, in the two situations we've seen in the comics in which Maya is inflated, she is not shocked nor annoyed by it. If anything, she's fine with it, as if she's done this countless times before. She's aware that, unlike other humans, she WILL come back from a pop, same regenerative powers as hybrids and pure balloons. Somewhere in the gene pool, it's possible that regular humans lost the ability to regenerate, thus why she came up with the insurance excuse. Path #3 - Alien. This stems off of the immortal theory, an alternative to it. Maya is part of a race of aliens that are able to copy the appearance and abilities of the species they live among. It is possible that Maya came down from space and copied the appearance of another human, possibly an original "Maya" who, by unknown events, popped or otherwise disappeared, thus causing this Maya to step into her shoes and into her life. Either this, or Maya's appearance is original to herself, naturally looking human-like. Regardless, she was sent here by her home planet for an unknown assignment. She looked human enough, copied the abilities of the species, learning that humans have the ability to inflate and burst like balloons. What she didn't account for is, however, that regular humans do not come back after such an incident. Her alien DNA copied human appearance, yet the abilities of a balloon, thus the insurance idea came to be! That's just my small ideas on things.
