What happens when a game works, but still disappoints? The systems are solid, the world is beautiful, and yet players walk away asking "is that all there is?"

This episode of Innside Stories looks at two infamous launches and how they both faced the same accusation of emptiness, then chose completely opposite paths to survive it.

Joce explores how these two games reshaped what launches mean, how recovery became normalized, and why “we’ll fix it later” went from a warning sign to an industry strategy... For better or worse

Each month, we alternate posting a Host Special, focusing on personal experiences, our favourite games, or just stories that peaked our interest. We wanted to provide some bonus content for our Patrons, so the Monthly Host Special is exclusive to Patrons of The Gamers’ Inn. Thank you for the support, and we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed putting this together.

Thank you for your support and happy gaming!

I got to experience both of these launches in person, and I'm glad to see they both made it out of the initial torrent of downfalls to come out on top. I've put hundreds of hours into No Man's Sky on two different consoles, and loved every minute of it. Their updates are insane, and FREE. In a world of microtransactions, pricy early accesses, and absurd pre-order editions, it is incredible to see a game drop so much content without asking for a penny. I wish I would have the same praise for Sea of Thieves, but I am not big in the PvP scene. However, if that game ever dropped a PvE mode, I would probably spend just as many hours there. The few times I have jumped back into have been adventurous and exciting... until I got camped by a bigger ship. I understand the nature of the game is PvP, so do not take this as a criticism. I'm sure it shines as the game it is meant to be. Both their stories are admirable for their game producers have the courage to face the backlash, admit their short comings, and fight to remain true to their vision. Though as you mentioned, let's hope it doesn't serve as a permission slip for other companies to follow the same road map.

There is a PVE mode now, it's called Safer Seas! You can't level up past 50 with each company, and obviously PvP rewards are unavailable, but you can do all the Tall Tale content and stuff without the threat!
