This episode absolutely rips. Billy was set up to be a side antagonist, but seeing the abuse he suffered from his dad shows us why he is the way he is and yeah he might be a dick, but he absolutely stood on business at the end. The “I’m sorry” at the end was heartbreaking. Don’t even get me started on Hop. Such a good dad 💔

What a fucking finale! Truly rips your heart out !! I can not wait for season 4 by far my favorite! And most emotional ! Just to add a bit to Billy’s death while I didn’t mourn his death, like you guys, because he was awful the whole season, just plain cruel, even if he did have a terrible father sure, you sympathize and to an extend recognize why he’s so cruel, however I do feel like ALOT of his actions were not justified, I did like that he sacrificed himself for Elle, but that’s the only action I liked from Billy.

I think it explains SOME of why he is the way he is, but I don't think all of his behavior is the result of his abuse. Just my personal opinion of course.

The singalong irritated me the first time I watched too. I was so anxious about what everything going on. However, upon rewatch after rewatch, it makes me chuckle and the other characters’ reactions make it funny to me now.

tbh its nice and kinda refreshing to see you guys has this much compassion towards billy, most ppl i known who had seen the show and reactors i came acrossed either hated him or didnt mind that he died. To me i mean i get it billy was a product of his parents and had a tragic upbringing but it still didnt excuse the things that he did so yh i wasnt sad about his death, though he did redeemed himself a little by self sacrifice.

your reactions did not disappoint LMAO. I’m glad u guys enjoyed it! While, again, s3 is the weakest for me, it seriously has some peak moments, and gets intense when it wants to! also I agree, the musical moment irked me so bad first time I watched it. It’s funny now in retrospect, but definitely still a questionable writing choice imo. Damn, but that ending of everyone saying their goodbyes and Hop’s monologue kills me every time. Now onto season 4, my all time favorite!!!

It wouldn’t really make sense for the characters (except Max) to mourn Billy. Billy never had a positive interaction with anyone except maybe that one scene with him and Steve playing basketball (?), other than that he was an antagonistic jerk to everyone in season 3, and then was possessed early in season 4. It would be like if they mourned Nancy and Jonathon’s boss or the mayor. Only Max and to an extent El really got to know Billy

True. Billy is a bit of a tragic character, but I can't related to the love S&P have for characters like him or Buntaro. Billy had a tough upbringing, but as you said, he has been a jerk all along.

Billy is a very polarized character, but I truly felt sorry for him, and I wish he would have lived longer and been able to redeem himself even more. Can't wait for season 4!

I think even if they closed the gate before the mind flayer killed billy, he still would've died because he was still flayed (like how they had to burn the mind flayer out of Will in season 2 before they closed the gate)

Season 4 is far and away better than 2 and 3. Though I really enjoyed 2 and 3 like you both did. Its just they both kinda kept the show static and the same. Season 4 is just fresh and really takes a step forward.

Agreed. Also, people grieve in different ways. It’s actually healthy to allow yourself to laugh and smile at times even while grieving.

What always gets me is El comforting Max after Billy dies, telling her everything will be okay, not knowing that she herself has suffered an even greater loss. It’s heartbreaking. IIRC Millie Bobby Brown (El) didn’t read Hop’s letter until she filmed the scene at the end, in order to get a more genuine reaction.
