The fact Grave of the Fireflies is not anywhere close to winning is both a shame and a blessing. That is a film you can only watch once as it will absolutely destroy you

Ooh, a lot of good movies here. I would love to see you both react to Studio Ghibli films one day! The animated category is too broad, it feels like a few of these movies should be on separate lists for sure lol (looking at you Grave of the Fireflies) 😂😭

From what I've seen he has always maintained he had the idea for the film for a long time and had no outside influence on it. Which makes the similarities (especially the visual ones) interesting. Granted, Inception is very clearly a different movie.

I'm fine with almost any of these movies tbh, as long as it isn't Grave of the Fireflies. I've tried watching it 2 times now and just couldn't. Great movie but so friggin miserable 😭 I do wonder why that's the only Ghibli movie that made it to this list though 🤔 Where's Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, etc.

I think its just because its been mentioned a lot and since they haven't seen any of them they don't know the differences between them or what are ideal introductory/most popular ones. Fireflies is an appropriately very well regarded film, but its not ideal for a first ghibli film and as you mentioned, it also has that Schilndlers list type of issue of just being very emotionally hard hitting in a brutal, depressing way, some people are up for that, some aren't, so that probably knocks it down a little in voting numbers.

I love every movie on this list along with all of the other suggestions in the comments. But "Across The Spider-Verse" is a visual masterpiece on a level that no animated movie has ever done before. Combined with the amazing story, it is easily one of the greatest movies of ALL time.

You are saying a bunch of little kid movies are far better than Grave of the FIreflies (not saying I voted for that), have you even seen it? Those you listed aren't bad movies (particularly Lion King) but they definitely trend towards younger audiences on the animation spectrum.

This guy really hit us with Kungfu Panda and Ratatouille after implying he knows better animations movies than grave of the fireflies. Which is a masterpiece from 1988 about the survival of kids after the Hiroshima bombing of 1945

let’s be real, there’s some classics here like up, incredibles and monster inc, toy story etc. however spider verse films smash them out of the park. the animation and story is far more complex and just higher quality. I get it though as the films listed before are classics that at beloved but in terms of quality it’s not comparable.

Your Name is utterly devastating and beautiful at the same time. I’ll never forget the first time I watched it and bawled my eyes out, and I cry almost every time I rewatch it. It resonated so profoundly with me. I do not think any other piece of media has made me feel the emotions I felt from watching Your Name. Its my favourite movie of all time. Based on the current vibe of the channel, I sadly don’t see it being a popular choice.

the story for the spider verse movies are really basic and not that compelling considering they’ve been done throughout every marvel movie or superhero movie classic hero’s journey there’s not that much complexity to it. the animation is the most quality part of the movies bruv

This! Really hope it wins a future poll sad to see it only at 7% as it’s an absolute masterpiece and had me so emotional. Cried hard haha. Pudgey will be sobbing if they do end up watching it. I also agree with other people they need ghibli movies on there. Spirited away and princess mononoke being the obvious choices but a personal fave of mines is Porco Roso 🐷❤️
