Love the hoodie, Spartan.

Didn't the VIPs in season 1 comment that the US games had just completed before they came to the Korea games? I feel like they have said that so the games have always been worldwide.

Sydedele

Do you guys realise that it's Cate blanchett at the end lol?

Oh guys, so much to unpack! First of all, I don’t think I’ll be watching any more Squid Game hahaha. Gi-hun’s death? I did not see that coming (unlike, apparently, everyone else). Right up until the last moment, I kept hoping someone would swoop in and save him, maybe the cop, number 11, the Front Man, anyone! It’s just so sad that he had to go through all that, only for our hero not to get his happy ending. I totally pictured him hugging his daughter in the final scene. That said, I get why they did it. Realistically, it wouldn’t be so easy to take down something as massive and well-organized as the Squid Game. There's just too much money and power behind it. It really hits home that, in real life, bad things keep happening, and a happy ending isn’t always possible. The games were happening all aroud the world and makes sense, considering the VIPs came from different countries. As for Number 11, from what I understood, even though the file said her daughter was dead, it wasn’t officially confirmed. That man kept his promise, did his digging, and he did find a potential match, a girl whose name at least matched her daughter’s. But of course, they left that storyline open-ended. All in all, I really liked the season and the ending, even if Gi-hun’s death shattered my heart. I still mad about that but i’m okay with the rest... I guess. 😅

Season 1 is still undefeated

That was Cate Blanchett at the end. She plays Hella in Thor: Ragnarok and Lady Galadriel in Lord of the Rings.

Humans are…. The way Spartan answered the question at the end discussion echoes my thoughts exactly. I think he put it perfectly. Then Latin “Hodie mihi, cras tibi” literally translates to “today to me, tomorrow to you.” Or in a more colloquial sense “today mine, tomorrow yours.” I think this is so show how Gi-hun’s sacrifice changed things. I think it especially changed In-ho. The Korean games are over, destroyed, and In-ho ended up doing the right thing by giving the baby and the money to someone he knew would raise it well, also making the trip to the USA to return all of Gi-hun’s money to his daughter. Today mine, tomorrow yours… “tomorrow” is the baby, Gi-hun’s daughter, Sae-byok’s (sp?) brother reuniting with his mother, the father escaping and his daughter being cured, and player 11 potentially reuniting with her daughter in China.

Bill B.

Yes, they definitely said something in season 1 along the lines of “the Korean games were the best ones this year” implying that games like this are held in multiple places around the world. And in that last scene of this episode we definitely got confirmation that they’re held in the USA too. Gi-hun’s sacrifice gave the baby a chance to live and I think truly changed in-ho. But maybe more importantly he did accomplish his mission of ending the squid games at least in Korea. I think In-ho became so obsessed with what Gi-hun was going to do that he let other things slip under the radar which ultimately left him no choice but to blow up the entire facility. His brother got there, the coast guard was on its way, the boat captain was killed, etc.

Bill B.

Lol so random! She must be a big fan of the show and asked for a cameo. Like when Ed Sheeran showed up in that one scene in Game of Thrones! Also Michael Imperioli (Christopher from the Sopranos) had a small cameo in HBO’s Rome because he was such a huge fan!

Bill B.

I agree. The whole premise is off the charts anyway, but within this world, no I don’t think anybody, as hard as Gi-hun tried, is going to have a truly happy ending here. Best he can do is what he did, sacrifice himself to help others.

Haseenudeen

Spartan spot on this episode. Was mentioned in season 1 that the games are worldwide. The guy looking for number 11 daughter is legit, he didn't even want her money when she went to him in the start of the season because he thought the daughter was dead

Julien

Wait. wat How did I miss this.

Julien

I enjoyed the last two seasons but I was far less invested in the new S2-S3 characters than in the core cast of S1, despite some of new characters enjoying more screen time than those of S1. Ali was around for what, 5 episodes? Yet he made a bigger mark on me than anyone in S2-3. The show also weirdly got rid of the few characters that *were* interesting before the finale, which is a truly odd writing choice. I don't think lengthy debates between a bunch of mostly nameless soundrels about how to kill a baby makes for compelling television. And as a final antagonist, baby daddy (whose name I can't even remember) doesn't hold a candle to Sang-Woo. If the plan is to have this guy last till the end, should he not be written to be more interesting? I'm just genuinely perplexed by the writing choices. Somehow the writing also managed to shrink Gi-Hun's presence in the third season. With some exceptions, he somehow grew more passive and eventually spent most of the finale just standing there holding a baby. This would be fine if some of the other players rose to his level in charisma (e.g., baby daddy) but they never did. His death was expected, which is fine. I just wish the circumstances were more interesting. His fading presence made his moral victory feels hollow in the end because in some ways he died long ago. Anyway, this was fun.

Nathan Jasper

Cate better be in the US spinoff, they can't tease me like that and not follow through lol

AppleML

Show didn't need a s2 or s3

About your request if there are other K-drama recommendations, I would recommend 'the Glory'. Or if you want to try something different than what you are used to, I'd say 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo'

Sarah Stapleton

I think my biggest gripe was that they got rid of all the characters I liked too soon, and that the cop plot wasted so much time just to get nowhere

Sarah Stapleton

That being said I bawled like a baby in this ep despite feeling a bit disconnected from the rest of the season, and it was more satisfying than I thought. Really frustrating to see so many characters just make dumb decisions though (looking at you, Junho, and 333 for killing the old man before the final round)

Nicole Herd

So, the scene where No Eul (guard 11) is at the airport, Pudgey was confused about the man running the agency that searches for North Korean relatives and you questioned whether that man was messing with her. I personally interpret the scene as he is now actively searching for peoples relatives and doing a lot of good work. You may remember from season 1 when Sae Byeok threatened him because he was screwing her over, hence why she was in debt. I think after that he turned his act around and started doing genuine work. We can see this because as Spartan points out, he just reunited Sae Byeok's mother and brother (I hope they go to live with Sang Woo's mother so she won't be lonely). I think No Eul (11) believed her daughter was dead and maybe that's what the squid game people believed to so it was in the file. Also, we know from season 1 that there are multiple Squid Games internationally, because when the VIPs arrive, one of them says "the Korean one is always the best". About further K-dramas, please consider The Glory and All Of Us Are Dead, both fantastic shows honestly. I feel like All Of Us Are Dead is better to binge but the pay off on The Glory is INCREDIBLE. I know you guys still aren't doing movies again but as soon as you start up I will be petitioning for Train to Busan (which stars Gong Yoo, the Ddakji guy at the train station)

Nicole Herd

Isn't it also a bit of a threat/warning to the players? Like, "today it's me, but tomorrow it could be you?" kind of thing, which we see Gi Hun mention to one of the players in the final game when they're trying to push him off. He tries to cast doubt by essentially saying "right now you might kill me but next round they may kill you."

Bill B.

That’s a very good theory! Makes a lot of sense!

Just binged season 1-3 over a few days.. this show was so good
