I was among those who relentlessly pushed for the Expanse for ages - and watched it fail in poll after poll. It's immensely gratifying to see you actually enjoy it. In fact I'm surprised at how much you're enjoying it already. I wish Sudden were here to enjoy our hour of triumph. He was the biggest champion of this show. I gather he is no longer here due to some backstage drama/shenanigans. That's unfortunate. Regarding Mars, I think it's no spoiler to say that it's a dynamic new society united by the common purpose of transforming their planet into a fully livable place. Because they are all driven by and united toward this goal, Martians tend to be more... focused, intense, martial. I think that's what you saw in Bobby at the end there.

By definition, Belters aren't going to be as strong as Earthers from growing up in zero gravity and having weaker bones, lungs, etc. I doubt Miller could take on Amos, even if he was all recovered from the experience on Eros.

The "sneaky snake" politician who is working with Jules-Pierre Mao is called Sativer Errinwright. The guy that Crisjen Avasarala hired as a spy in this episode is called Cotyar. The super tough Martian marine we met here with the New Zealand accent is Gunnery Sergeant Roberta (Bobby) Draper. Her nickname is Gunny. These are not spoilers. I just know it's hard to get all the names.

Isn't her nickname Bobby? Gunny is short for gunnery which is her position in the military

Both are her nicknames. That's why I put Bobby in parentheses after Roberta. I've seen other reactors think her name was Gunny.

- No spoilers ahead - Earth spread out into the belt because it's full of super-valuable rare minerals and becasue that's what we do, always pushing it a bit further. At this point humanity is still confined to our Solar System lacking a sufficiently fast method of travel to venture out into interstellar space. The people on Mars are living under pressurized domes becasue the terraforming of the planet is not finished yet. Bobby ( Gunny ) at this point is extremely nationalist and a warrior. The people on Mars literally put the terraforming project before everything else and due to the Cold War between Earth and Mars they had to postpone that project to invest into their military. That made her generation very salty and resentful towards Earth. Her being a marine doesnt help the case, she wants to solve the problem the only way she knows. If you are a hammer, everything is a nail. In her eyes, Mars is perfect and the source of every problem is Earth. Things tend to be a lot more complex than that though... I like how Spartan just dont want to let go the "butcher" nickname for Fred Johnson. I always forget that hi was pinned with that nickname and every time he mentions it takes a moment for me to catch on lol Regarding Amos...it's not the same league, Miller wouldn't stand a chance. He was a badass cop becasue he knew how to play the game and he was ruthless if he had to be. Amos indeed has a backstory but that's just one of the reason why is he different. He was born on Earth, grew up in 1G and on top of that, he is built like a beast. In a later season there is a scene where you could se his thighs and they look like an oak log. The man is an absolute unit. He could fold Miller like a piece of paper and smoke him without really breaking a sweat. Miller is a belter, his muscles are weak, his bones are weak. It's just how it is. Really looking forward to the next few episodes guys, things are about to get wild.

I'd add to the reasons behind Bobby's and other Martians' attitudes about Earth also stem from their (limited) information that Earth provides a living for all its citizens, even if they don't work. They call them "Takers, " and look down on them for that.

Solid point, that is in fact true. They literally sacrifice everything in order to contribute as much as they can towards their terraforming goal, over half of Earthers live on basic ( universal basic assistance ). That's becasue due to the overpopulation and outsourced industry they cant provide jobs for everyone. There is little to no mining going on at this point on Earth, all that resource is coming from the belt so I would imagine the refinery industry is also somewhere off world. Following that line of thinking I guess the manufacturing is also somewhere in space. Nobody in their right mind would drop all that material on a planet just to lift it back into space again lol I guess most heavy industry has been moved off planet with most of the research/science as well.
